Dodgers beat Blue Jays in 18-inning World Series marathon game

Dodgers Clinch World Series Thriller Behind Freddie Freeman's Walk-Off Homer and Shohei Ohtani's Historic Performance

In a jaw-dropping 18-inning marathon game that pushed the Dodgers' stamina to the limit, Los Angeles emerged victorious against Toronto, thanks in large part to an unforgettable display of heroics from ace Shohei Ohtani.

Ohtani, the Japanese sensation who has been on fire throughout the postseason, delivered another masterclass performance, tying a 119-year-old MLB record with four extra-base hits. His historic night included two home runs and five walks – including five consecutive ones in the eighth inning – cementing his status as one of the greatest postseason players of all time.

The Blue Jays' decision to intentionally walk Ohtani multiple times proved to be a wise move, but ultimately backfired as the Dodgers' lineup took advantage of their teammates' struggles. After falling behind 5-4 in the seventh inning, Ohtani tied the game with a majestic 401-foot homer to left-center.

The Dodgers went on to take the lead in the eighth, but the Blue Jays refused to give up. Toronto continued to push the game into extra innings, only for Ohtani to once again rise to the occasion. With two outs in the 18th inning, he launched a walk-off solo homer off Max Scherzer, securing the win for the Dodgers.

Ohtani's incredible performance set a new record for most extra-base hits in a postseason game – one shy of Andre Dawson's mark. The Los Angeles star also became the first player to reach base nine times in a single postseason game since Stan Hack in 1942.

The Dodgers' victory marked their third win in the World Series, with Ohtani set to start on the mound for Game 4 against Toronto. With his impressive postseason resume now firmly established, the stage is set for Ohtani to take center stage in the final games of the championship series.

For the Blue Jays, the loss was a tough pill to swallow, especially after their manager intentionally walked Ohtani multiple times throughout the game. Nevertheless, Toronto showed remarkable resilience and determination, pushing the Dodgers to the limit before ultimately succumbing to the ace's heroics.

ugh, 18 innings is just ridiculous 🤯 they should've just given up when ohtani was walking and not tried to make a heroic comeback...like the blue jays knew that was gonna end in disaster 😂 anyhoo, congrats to the dodgers on clinching the series! now can we please get some sleep 😴

man I'm still trying to catch my breath from that one 🤯! Shohei Ohtani is literally a superhero on the mound, tying this crazy record for most extra-base hits in a postseason game 🎉. And that walk-off homer? Unreal 💥. The Dodgers' win was a testament to their team's grit and determination, and it's awesome to see them take the lead in the World Series 🏆. I'm also super impressed by Ohtani's ability to stay calm under pressure – 5 consecutive walks in the eighth inning? That's insane 😲. The Blue Jays had some tough moments, but they showed their mettle too – respect for that 💯. Bring it on for Game 4! 🎊

oh man 🤯 this ohtani guy is straight fire 🔥 his performance was insane 😲 tying that record for most extra base hits in a postseason game is no joke 💥 5 walks in a row? what is he even doing out there 🤷‍♂️ max scherzer got wrecked off him 😩 the dodgers are so lucky to have him on their team 🙌

anyway the blue jays can't be mad at themselves for trying to get ohtani out but they just ended up giving him more oxygen 👀 it's all part of the game and kudos to toronto for going the distance 💪 now let's see what game 4 brings 🔁

😩 I feel for those Blue Jays guys, they gave it their all but just couldn't catch a break. That Shohei Ohtani is MIND-BLOWING 💥! Four extra-base hits in one game?! 🤯 And that walk-off homer to win the game? 🎉 Unbelievable! I'm so hyped for the Dodgers, they've got this World Series thing wrapped up. But kudos to Toronto, they showed heart and never gave up 😊. Max Scherzer, though... what were you thinking, man? 🤦‍♂️ Just kidding, it's all part of the game! 😅

I'm low-key disappointed that Ohtani got robbed of more credit for his incredible performance 🤷‍♂️. I mean, five consecutive walks in one inning? That's just insane! The Blue Jays' decision to intentionally walk him was probably a smart move at the time, but it backfired big time. And don't even get me started on how he carried that team to victory solo 🎸. Ohtani's stats are already off the charts, and now he's got that World Series ring to go with it 💎. The real question is, what will he do next? Will he retire or try for another championship? Only time will tell ⏰.

This guy Shohei Ohtani is insane!!! 🤯 He literally just tied a record for most extra-base hits in one postseason game! Four home runs and five walks in one inning?! That's just wild. I'm not surprised he did it, though - the dude has been on fire all postseason. And that walk-off homer in the 18th inning? Unbelievable. The Dodgers are so lucky to have him. 🙌

I love how the Blue Jays tried to intentionally walk him multiple times, but it just ended up giving them more problems. It's like they thought he was invincible or something! 😂 Anyway, Ohtani is definitely going to be a legend of this sport. He's already got his name in the record books and there's no way he's not gonna win MVP now.

🏆 gotta give it up for shohei ohtani, dude 🙌 he's literally on another level. four extra base hits in one game is insane 💥 18 innings of back and forth was crazy, but that guy just kept rising to the occasion 🔝 can't believe max scherzer got walked off by him 😂

idk why people still watch baseball, i mean don't get me wrong, shohei ohtani is pretty cool and all 😂 but have you seen those avocado toast prices in LA lately? $25 for a slice of bread is just not right 🤯 my friend's cousin works at a coffee shop in silverlake and they told him that if he wants to make ends meet, he has to start charging like, 50 bucks a cup. no joke. anyways, i was thinking we should all just invest in some sustainable gardening startup or something...

Wow 🤯🏆 this dude Shohei Ohtani is on FIRE 🔥💨! Four extra-base hits in one game?! That's wild 🌪️😲! And that walk-off homer in the 18th inning? Mind-blowing 😲💥! He's breaking records left and right, what a legend 💫👑. I'm so hyped for Game 4 now 🎉🏆, Ohtani is going to bring it again! ⚾💪
