St. Paul man, 65, sentenced for fatally stabbing apartment neighbor, 70, in fight over money

A 65-year-old St. Paul man, Robert L. Ramsey, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for fatally stabbing his 70-year-old neighbor, Lester Haynes, in a violent dispute over money.

Ramsey pleaded guilty last month to unintentional murder for the death of Haynes, who was found stabbed in the hallway of their apartment building on November 3. The gruesome details of the crime were revealed during Ramsey's sentencing hearing, where he received credit for the nearly 10 months he has already spent behind bars.

According to eyewitness accounts and surveillance footage, the argument between Ramsey and Haynes began when Ramsey showed up at Haynes' apartment while his friend was watching football with him. The dispute quickly escalated into a physical altercation, with both men engaging in a fierce struggle. The hallway video captured Haynes being pushed by Ramsey, who then grabbed hold of his clothing as they tussled.

The violent confrontation continued outside Haynes' apartment door, where Ramsey allegedly stabbed Haynes multiple times, including a fatal blow to the left torso. Haynes managed to crawl and grab onto Ramsey's legs while sitting on the floor, but he was unable to escape as Ramsey repeatedly tried to stab him in the neck and upper torso.

Miraculously, police found the blade of a filet knife lodged in Haynes' body, which had been removed by a witness who intervened. Paramedics were called, and Haynes was rushed to Regions Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

At the time of his arrest, Ramsey showed no visible injuries on his face or neck area despite having a Band-Aid on his thumb. He refused to make any statements to police.

The sentence brings closure to the Haynes family and reflects the severity of the crime committed by Ramsey. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences that can result from violent disputes over trivial matters, highlighting the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and seeking help when necessary.

man this guy ramsey he's literally gone crazy 😱, i mean 15 years in prison is fair considering what he did, but it feels like not enough to be honest πŸ€”. you think about it, a fight over some money led to the death of an old dude... that's wild πŸ’₯. and the fact that he didn't even get hurt from the stabbing and was all good after being arrested is just crazy πŸ˜‚. i guess this sentence will help bring closure to lester haynes' family but still it's just a reminder of how violent we can be when we let our emotions take over πŸ€•.

I gotta say, 15 years is a pretty harsh sentence for some dude who just lost his temper over a stupid argument πŸ˜‚. Like, I get it, violence is never the answer, but come on, 15 years? That's way too much time away from your family and friends for something that could've been avoided with some de-escalation techniques πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

I also wonder what was going through his head when he saw his friend get tackled by Ramsey. Was he thinking "Oh no, my buddy is getting hurt"? Or was he like "Yeah, I'm gonna stab this guy and then get outta here"? πŸ€” Either way, it's crazy that things escalated so fast.

And can we talk about the witness who pulled a filet knife out of Haynes' body? Like, what even is that? That's some Marvel movie stuff right there πŸ’ͺ. Anyway, yeah, I guess 15 years is better than no time at all, but it still seems like a pretty excessive punishment to me 😐.

man... just think about it... 15 years in prison for a life lost over money 🀯 it's crazy how things can escalate so fast into violence. and what really gets me is that ramsey didn't even show any signs of injury during the arrest, but had a bandaid on his thumb πŸ€” maybe he was trying to hide something? anyway, i think the sentence is fair but also a reminder that we need to find ways to resolve conflicts peacefully before things get physical πŸ’‘

πŸ€• I'm really sorry to hear about this senseless tragedy πŸ˜”. It's just heartbreaking to think about an old man like Lester Haynes meeting such a brutal end πŸ’€. 15 years in prison is definitely a fair sentence for the guy who pleaded guilty, but you can't help feeling that justice doesn't always come with closure πŸ€•. The whole thing is still kinda hard to wrap your head around - I mean, someone stabbing their neighbor multiple times and leaving them to die on the floor is just insane 😩. And to think he was able to walk out of the police station without a scratch and refusing to talk about it, that's just crazy πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. It's moments like these that make you wish people would take a step back and sort things out peacefully before things get physical πŸ’”.

🀯 just saw this crazy story about an old dude stabbing his neighbor to death over some money πŸ€‘ 15 yrs in prison is way too harsh but I guess someone's gotta pay for it πŸ’Έ anyway you feel safe walking around your neighborhood at night or not? 🏠😬

I'm just so sad about this whole thing πŸ€•. You know, I was reading about this case and I just can't believe what happened to Lester Haynes. 70 years old, stabbed multiple times in his own apartment... it's just heartbreaking. The fact that Robert Ramsey showed up at his neighbor's place while his friend was watching football with him, and then things escalated into a violent fight... it's just ridiculous. I mean, who engages in physical altercations over trivial stuff? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

And what really gets me is the details of the crime scene. The fact that Haynes managed to crawl onto Ramsey's legs and grab onto him while he was trying to stab him multiple times... it's just horrific. And then, some witness intervened and removed the knife from his body, which likely saved his life. It's just a miracle, really.

Anyway, I think 15 years is definitely a fair sentence for Ramsey. The guy needs time to reflect on what he's done and understand the severity of his actions. πŸ€” This whole case is just a stark reminder that violence can have devastating consequences, especially when it comes to elderly people or those who aren't in their right minds.

I think we all need to take a moment to appreciate the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and seeking help when needed. Sometimes, people just get caught up in the heat of the moment and make terrible decisions... but that's not an excuse for violence. We should all try to be more mindful of our actions and their consequences. 🀝

πŸ€” I think 15 years is way too lenient for someone who basically killed their neighbor over some money issues πŸ€‘. Like, if you're gonna stab someone to death, at least have the decency to show a bit of remorse or admit it was your fault πŸ˜’. Ramsey's already spent 10 months in prison, so another 5 years could've been better justice, IMHO πŸ’―. And what's with the Band-Aid on his thumb? Sounds like he might've broken it during the fight πŸ€•. The police didn't even find any injuries on him, just weird that he wasn't hurting himself more considering how brutal the attack was πŸ’€. Anyway, I guess closure is good for the Haynes family, but I wish they could've gotten a better sense of justice outta this deal πŸ™„

I'm just so glad that justice was served for Lester's family πŸ™πŸ”₯. 15 years is a long time, but at least it shows that Robert Ramsey will have to face the consequences of his actions. You know what really gets me? The fact that he had a Band-Aid on his thumb and showed no visible injuries yet stabbed someone to death 😲. It's just crazy how some people can be so reckless with their actions. I'm not saying this is going to prevent others from making the same mistakes, but I do hope it makes people think twice before resorting to violence πŸ’‘. Anyway, I'm just glad that there are still good guys out there who care about keeping our communities safe 🌟

πŸ€• 15 years in prison is still too short for someone who took an innocent man's life πŸ™. I think Ramsey needs to serve a much longer sentence and also get some mental health help 🀯. All that violence and aggression just over money? It's just crazy πŸ’Έ. Can we learn from this and try to resolve our conflicts peacefully, especially with our elderly neighbors who deserve love and respect ❀️?

omg 15 years in prison is a looong time lol i mean who tries to stab someone over money? seems like he got his due tho the family must be relieved now that the sentence is out... and btw why did he even have a bandaid on his thumb after all that violence lol guess he didn't want any extra attention 🀣

OMG u guyz 🀯, 15 yrs in prison is like a joke! The old dude stabbed his neighbor to death & gets a slap on the wrist?! 😑 what about the victim's family who has to live with this guilt for the rest of their lives? His friend witness saw him try to stab the guy multiple times but still only got a 15-yr sentence πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. The whole system is messed up! πŸ‘Ž

I feel so bad for Lester's family πŸ€•... 15 years in prison is way too harsh, imo. You'd think it'd be just a slap on the wrist considering how crazy that argument got. But I guess justice has to be served, right? πŸ˜” It's wild that Ramsey had no visible injuries yet showed up with a Band-Aid on his thumb... maybe he was trying to send a message or something πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. What really gets me is that it all started over money πŸ’Έ... can't we just talk things out instead of resorting to violence? 😩

just thinking about this case is giving me the chills 😱 15 years is a pretty harsh sentence, but i guess it's fitting for someone who showed no remorse or empathy for what they did. the part that really gets me is how it escalated from a simple disagreement over money to this senseless violence 🀯 it just goes to show that we need to be more mindful of our words and actions, especially when it comes to relationships with those around us. also, why was there no visible injuries on Ramsey's face or neck despite having a band-aid on his thumb? did the police miss something? anyway, hoping the Haynes family can find some closure and peace soon πŸ’”

omg u cant even imagine the horror of what went down in that apartment building 🀯! 15 yrs is def way too long for anyone to be stuck behind bars for a stupid dispute over money πŸ’Έ it just shows how much our society values people over property and stuff like that...i mean i get that lester haynes wasnt perfect but stabbing him to death wasnt the answer 😩 and what really gets me is that there were witnesses who saw everything go down & yet ramsey still managed to convince police he was fine πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ kinda shady if u ask me πŸ‘€

πŸ˜‚ 15 years in prison for stabbing his neighbor over money? That's like getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar... but instead of cookies, it's a human life! πŸͺπŸ‘Ž Ramsey must've really wanted that filet knife to stay in Haynes' body forever... guess he won't be having any BBQs this summer 🀣. Seriously though, this is just heartbreaking - 70 yrs old getting stabbed like a teenager. Someone should give the witness a prize for saving Haynes' life... I mean, who needs a trophy when you've got a good Samaritan to show up at the scene? πŸ’–
