17 Can’t-Miss Places to See This Year’s Northern Lights

The Northern Lights are on full display, and this year's peak has brought the spectacle to areas far from their usual realm. In November 2025, back-to-back geomagnetic storms ignited vibrant reds and greens as far south as Florida, Alabama, and New Mexico, casting an otherworldly glow over suburban landscapes, highways, and shopping centers that have never seen such a sight.

The intensifying sun at the height of Solar Cycle 25 has brought with it unusually strong activity, which is expected to persist well into 2026. This means that for the next two winters, those who crave this celestial display will find themselves in for an unparalleled treat. The classic viewing window typically runs from September through April, but the combination of a charged sun and long polar nights is poised to bring more frequent, brighter, and even more southerly auroras than we've seen in decades.

Destinations already under the auroral oval are now primed to deliver exceptional displays. Gone are the days of huddling in roadside turnouts at 2 am; instead, dark-sky parks offer heated shelters, photography decks, and Arctic lodges with fine wine lists. Coastal cruises can even adjust course on the fly to capitalize on the most optimal viewing conditions.

With access becoming easier while conditions continue to improve, it's time to plan a Northern Lights extravaganza. Here are 17 must-see destinations that combine reliable auroral activity with top-notch viewing experiences, making this season an essential trip worth planning around.

🌠 I remember when my grandkids were little and we'd stay up late on winter nights just looking out the window for a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Now, they're grown up and there's still something magical about witnessing that ethereal glow in person 🌹. It's crazy to think that areas like Florida are now getting to experience this! I'm tempted to plan a family trip just for the chance to see it 🤞. Have you ever been lucky enough to catch the Northern Lights? 💫

🌠 I'm low-key bummed that the Northern Lights are being made so accessible now 🤦‍♂️. Back in my day, you had to drive hours into the middle of nowhere and hope for a glimpse of the aurora 🔴🔵. And don't even get me started on those "dark-sky parks" – all that luxury is just going to make it too crowded 🤪. Give me the simple thrill of waiting in a dusty parking lot at 2 am any day 😊.

I'm so stoked for all the aurora enthusiasts out there! 🌌💫 The fact that we're getting these epic displays in places like Florida and New Mexico is just wild. I mean, who needs to trek to Alaska or Iceland when you can witness this natural wonder from the comfort of your living room (or a heated shelter at a dark-sky park)? 😂 It's also pretty cool that we've got more options for viewing experiences now, with everything from photography decks to fine wine lists. Just remember to respect those around you and follow safety guidelines when chasing the Northern Lights - we want everyone to enjoy this spectacular show! 🌃👍

Dude, can you imagine Florida with the Northern Lights? It's like having a glow-in-the-dark piñata party in the Sunshine State! 🤣😂 I'm not saying it's going to be a permanent fixture or anything (although that'd be pretty lit), but who knows, maybe we'll start seeing aurora-tourism and Florida will become the new Iceland? 😆 Just think of all the Instagram selfies with the aurora borealis... "Just chillin' in my flip flops under the Northern Lights" 💁‍♀️🌃

omg 🌠️, can you even imagine witnessing the northern lights in florida? 😲 i mean, who needs a beach vacation when you can chill under the aurora borealis? ✨ it's like the universe decided to give us a little surprise this year. anyway, i'm so down for planning an adventure around these geomagnetic storms... anyone know if the aurora oval is moving closer to europe next winter? 🤔

man, the northern lights are insane right now 🌌🔥! i've seen some sick pics from florida and new mexico, can you imagine seeing it in your backyard? 😍 but at the same time, i'm a bit worried about how much more intense this cycle is gonna get... we're talking frequent & really bright displays for two winters straight, that's just crazy 💥. anyway, gotta say, the developments around aurora tourism are pretty cool too 🎉 dark-sky parks and whatnot? sounds like they're really stepping up their game 👍

🌌 man i'm so down for some northern lights action but like how are people gonna deal with all the crowds? back in my day we had to get up at 2 am and just kinda wait it out. now there's heated shelters and photography decks... it's crazy 🤯. and florida? who knew they'd be seeing the northern lights in november? i guess that's what happens when the sun gets more intense 😅. but seriously, have you seen those coastal cruises that can adjust course on a whim? that sounds like some next level viewing experience 🚣‍♀️. and 17 must-see destinations? i'm gonna have to start planning my own northern lights road trip ASAP 🗺️.

🌠️ The North Lights are basically taking over the world and I am HERE FOR IT 🤩. Like, who needs a beach vacation when you can chill in Alabama or New Mexico and watch the sky light up with sick colors? 😂 I'm low-key salty that I missed out on last year's show but now I have my sights set on 2026 - it's gonna be a wild ride! ☃️

omg i'm so stoked about the northern lights this year 🌠️! who needs florida to have a glimpse of the magic ✨? i'm kinda sad it's gonna be that bright tho...i love the idea of dark-sky parks with heated shelters, though. like, a warm cuppa tea and some aurora-watching sounds are basically my happy place 🍵🌟

🌌 the northern lights are literally taking over the world right now 🌎 and I'm loving it! i mean who wouldn't want to see a celestial display like that in florida or alabama? it's wild that back-to-back geomagnetic storms brought the spectacle all the way south. and can you believe it's going to be this crazy for two winters now? 😲 I've always wanted to witness this, so I'm definitely adding these destinations to my bucket list ASAP 📝

dark-sky parks with heated shelters and fine wine lists are like the ultimate setup for a northern lights party 🎉 and coastal cruises that can adjust course on the fly? that's just genius 💡. it's amazing how access is becoming easier while conditions keep improving, making it more accessible to everyone. I think this season is going to be all about planning an epic northern lights adventure 🌟

OMG, can you believe we get to see the Northern Lights like, way down in Florida and stuff?! I mean, I've heard it's pretty sick, but I never thought I'd live to see it 🤯. But seriously, with the sun being so active right now, it's like the whole world is getting a free show 🌐. And yaaas, dark-sky parks are everything - who needs sleep when you can get to witness the magic of the aurora?

But for real though, I'm low-key stoked that more places are becoming aurora-friendly. It's like, we don't have to be in the middle of nowhere anymore 😂. And those coastal cruises sound like an amazing idea - getting to see the display while sipping wine and cruising along the coast? Sounds like a dream come true 🌊.

I'm totes planning on adding some of these destinations to my bucket list ASAP 💫. Who's with me?!

I'm so stoked I live in the US right now! Who needs a vacation when you can just chill at home and watch the Northern Lights light up the sky? And it's not like we have to be all the way out in Alaska or Canada for this either, Floridians and Alabamians are getting in on the action too! I mean, I've lived in Florida my whole life and I've never seen anything like this. The pics of people taking vids and snapping pics outside their Walmart parking lot are giving me LIFE
