ABC13 Weather Alert: Freezing rain and sleet creating some ice on roads northwest of Houston

Freezing Rain and Sleet Bring Ice on Roads North of Houston

A winter storm warning remains in effect for several counties north of Houston, as freezing rain and sleet create hazardous road conditions. The Houston area has seen mostly cold rain, but farther northwest, icy roads have been reported.

Residents are advised to exercise extreme caution when traveling, especially on bridges and overpasses. While temperatures may rise slightly above freezing this afternoon, any leftover moisture on the roads could refreeze overnight, leading to a hard freeze by evening.

Temperatures will plummet to the low 20s tomorrow morning, with wind chills dipping into the single digits. This is considered a particularly dangerous cold snap, and it's crucial to take precautions to protect interior pipes from freezing. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for all of Southeast Texas during this timeframe.

The current weather system is expected to clear by Monday afternoon, but another round of arctic air will bring temperatures back down on Friday, with potential snow showers in the region.

🌨️ ugh i hate when this happens... freezing rain and sleet are literally the WORST πŸ€ͺ been stuck at home all day and can't even leave my house without worrying about slipping and sliding everywhere πŸš—πŸ˜© just got a call from a friend who lives in one of those areas north of houston and she's freaking out because her pipes might freeze... anyone have any tips on how to prevent that? also, why does this always happen when we're finally getting used to these weird winter storms? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ did you guys prep your homes for the cold already? πŸ’‘

Ugh, winter is coming 🌨️! I'm so over this cold snap already. Can't we just have a mild winter for once? 😩 Freezing rain and sleet on the roads is no joke, especially if you're not used to driving in these conditions. My mom's from up north, she always talks about how harsh winters can be... I guess I'll find out soon enough 🀣. It's crazy that it's already getting so cold, like, what even is a low of 20s? ❄️ Can't we just have some warm sunshine for once? β˜€οΈ Anyway, gotta take this seriously and stay safe on the roads πŸš—πŸ’¨

Ugh, don't wanna be out there driving in that ice 🀯! I feel so bad for those who have to brave the roads today πŸ˜“. Like, I get it, winter storms happen and all, but can't we just have a warm sunny day for once β˜€οΈ? Anyway, hope everyone stays safe and warm indoors πŸ’‘. That cold snap is no joke, gotta take precautions or else pipes could burst 🚨! 🀞

ugh, can't believe it's freezing rain and sleet already πŸŒ¨οΈβ„οΈ north of houston... like what even is the point of having a winter storm warning if we're just gonna get icy roads again? 😩 and it's not just the roads, gotta worry about pipes freezin' too... anyone got a spare space heater or two to lend to their neighbors? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ at least temps might rise a bit above freezing this afternoon, but I'm sure that's just a tease. we're lookin at low 20s tomorrow morning and wind chills in the single digits... yikes πŸ˜“

Ugh, great, just what we needed - more excuses to stay indoors and binge-watch Netflix 🍿😴. I mean, who doesn't love driving around at 6am like a zombie, with a frozen windshield and ice-covered roads? Not me, that's for sure. And yeah, because one cold snap wasn't enough, now we get an Extreme Cold Warning... just what the doctor ordered to make our lives more interesting πŸ˜’. On the bright side, I guess it's a good excuse to break out the hot chocolate and cozy up with some blankets - sounds like a pretty solid plan to me β˜•οΈπŸ’€.

"Just because you have a great boss doesn't mean that your job is getting any better." πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ People are saying they don't wanna stay home today 'cause they got stuff to do... but roads are too icy πŸš—πŸ˜·

this winter storm warning better not be a distraction from the real issues πŸ€”. I mean, we're supposed to be worried about freezing rain and sleet, but what's going on with our water pipes? They can't even handle a little cold weather? It's like they want us to freeze, you know? And those wind chills? Low 20s? Single digits? That's just crazy talk. And now they're saying arctic air is coming back? Just waiting for the other shoe to drop, I'm sure 😏.

Omg, I can feel how scary that must be for ppl up north 😱🌨️! Freezing rain and sleet are like, super unpredictable, right? It's so frustrating when you're trying to plan a trip or just get around and then suddenly it gets all icy πŸš—πŸ’¦. I hope everyone is staying safe and warm πŸ’•! Those temps dropping down to the low 20s? Brrr, my heart goes out to anyone who has to deal with that β„οΈπŸ˜“. Can't wait for this system to clear up by Monday tho 😊.

I'm super worried about those folks north of Houston right now πŸ€•. The road conditions are getting really sketchy, especially with all that freezing rain and sleet. I mean, we've seen some nasty weather before, but this one sounds like it could be a real ice-breaker πŸ˜‚.

The idea that any leftover moisture on the roads could refreeze overnight is just terrifying. My grandma lives in a small town up north, and she's already stocking up on supplies and warning her friends to stay off the roads until things improve. It's not just about the driving itself, but also about protecting those pipes from freezing and bursting.

And let's be real, this cold snap sounds like it could be one of those weeks where people end up without heat or power 🚨. We need to all look out for each other and make sure everyone is safe and warm during this time. It's going to be a long week! 😬

Ugh dont even wanna leave my house today β„οΈπŸš¨ gotta be careful when driving anywhere, bridges and overpasses are like super slippery ice rinks πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. and what's up with these crazy cold snaps? one day its freezing rain sleet the next day its a hard freeze 😩 anyway, think the city should have better snowplows or something to deal with this stuff ⛃️

🌨️ just saw that news about the winter storm warning north of Houston... freezing rain and sleet are no joke, especially when it comes to roads πŸš—. I'm glad they're advising people to be super cautious, but also kinda worried about all the pipes freezing overnight ❄️. I've lived in Texas long enough to know how quickly things can get bad during a cold snap... anyway, just want everyone to stay safe and warm till this weather passes 😊.

Ugh, can't believe they're still using those old-school road conditions updates πŸš¨πŸ’¦. I mean, we need some better graphics and alerts that actually warn us about impending ice on our way to work... like, a real-time radar thingy would be awesome πŸ“Ί. And what's with the slow warning times? A winter storm warning for hours in advance just gives me time to forget it's coming πŸ˜’. Can't they give us 30 minutes heads up instead of all that build-up? This cold snap is gonna be a nightmare... I'll probably end up driving on icy roads tomorrow, and who wants to risk breaking down πŸš—πŸ’”.

Ugh, can't believe winter's come to houston so early 😩. I mean, we're supposed to be avoiding this stuff till spring or somethin'. Now it's like, freezing rain and sleet all over the place... roads are gonna be a nightmare. People gotta be super careful out there, 'specially on bridges and whatnot. Can't even imagine how bad it's gonna get when those temps drop below 20 degrees tomorrow πŸ₯Ά. I'm tryin' to prepare my pipes and stuff, but man, arctic air is just the worst... hope everything gets back to normal soon πŸ˜….

omg u guys i'm literally stuck at home cant leave my place till monday the roads r so bad my neighbor slipped on ice yesterday and bruised his hip lol i gotta be super careful driving when im finally out again dont wanna end up like him 20 below feels like -50 lol my pipes are all frozen already had to call my landlord to come fix them didnt wanna have to deal w/ no hot water rn
