Apple hires Google veteran as its new vice president of AI

Apple has just made its latest move in the rapidly evolving world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The tech giant has appointed renowned AI researcher Amar Subramanya as its new Vice President of AI, a position that comes with significant responsibilities.

Subramanya, who boasts an impressive 16-year tenure at Google, most recently held the position of Corporate Vice President of AI at Microsoft. His extensive experience in leading engineering teams and driving innovative projects will undoubtedly be valuable assets to Apple's AI department.

According to the company, Subramanya will oversee critical areas such as Apple Foundation Models, ML research, and AI Safety and Evaluation. He will report directly to Craig Federighi, who has been instrumental in shaping Apple's AI strategy. The appointment comes at a time when Apple's current AI executive, John Giannandrea, is set to retire in 2026.

Giannandrea joined Apple in 2018 after a stint at Google, where he played a key role in developing the company's search capabilities. His tenure was marked by high expectations, particularly with regards to delivering a more personalized version of Siri. However, Apple has faced setbacks in this regard, and Giannandrea has shouldered much of the blame for the delays.

In a statement, Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed gratitude for Giannandrea's contributions to the company, crediting Federighi with pushing forward the revamped Siri project. The appointment of Subramanya is seen as a strategic move to strengthen Apple's AI capabilities and drive innovation in the sector.

With this appointment, Apple is once again signaling its commitment to advancing its AI efforts and providing users with more personalized experiences. As the technology landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how Subramanya will shape the future of AI at Apple.

๐Ÿค” I don't get why they're making a big deal about this new guy? I mean, he's just gonna follow in John Giannandrea's footsteps and probably face the same challenges. What's really needed is someone who can shake things up and challenge the status quo, not just another suit to try and fix what's already broken. And honestly, Siri needs a major overhaul, not just some fancy new model ๐Ÿšซ

I'm telling ya, back in my day we didn't have all these fancy AI things ๐Ÿค–... I mean, what's wrong with Siri? It sounds like they're trying too hard to make it more personalized ๐Ÿ™„. And now they're switching out John Giannandrea for Amar Subramanya? That's some serious AI firepower ๐Ÿ’ฅ... I just hope they don't mess up this time around ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Apple's always been a bit behind the curve when it comes to tech, but with Subramanya on board, maybe they'll finally catch up ๐Ÿค”. I mean, 16 years at Google? That's some serious experience ๐Ÿ™Œ... we'll just have to wait and see how this plays out ๐Ÿ’ป.

I'm curious what's next for Siri... ๐Ÿค”

Do you think Apple is doing enough to catch up with other tech giants in AI research and development? ๐Ÿค– 50% seem to think so, but 25% are saying they're still playing catch-up. What do you reckon? ๐Ÿ’ฌ

I'm so stoked about Amar Subramanya's new gig at Apple ๐Ÿคฉ! I mean, this guy has some serious cred under his belt, 16 years at Google and now leading Apple's AI efforts? That's like a masterclass in innovation right there ๐Ÿ’ก. And with Craig Federighi at the helm, I'm hoping we'll see some major breakthroughs in AI safety and evaluation. The future of Siri is looking up, fam! But seriously, I'm all about this DIY approach to AI โ€“ we should be experimenting with our own projects, not just relying on these big tech companies to make it happen ๐Ÿค”. Maybe it's time for us to get creative and build our own personal AI assistants? The possibilities are endless! ๐Ÿ’ป

idk about this move tho ๐Ÿค”... like, Apple's had some issues with Siri in the past... did they even do any research on what people actually want from their virtual assistants? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ i mean, stats show that only 12% of users use Siri regularly ๐Ÿ“Š and 75% of them are looking for more conversational capabilities ๐Ÿ“ˆ

anywayz, lets look at the bigger pic. AI is a major industry now... did you know that the global AI market is expected to reach $190 billion by 2030? ๐Ÿ’ธ that's a 40% increase from last year alone! ๐Ÿ’ฅ and with companies like Apple, Google, and Microsoft competing for dominance, it's only gonna get more interesting ๐Ÿคฏ

i'm curious to see how Subramanya will shake things up at Apple... has he done any research on the importance of explainability in AI? ๐Ÿ“Š it's a major concern right now, with 80% of experts believing that AI systems need to be more transparent ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

oh and btw, did you know that the average AI job salary is $141k per year? ๐Ÿ’ธ that's way higher than the national average ๐Ÿ“ˆ

I'm so excited about this news!!! ๐Ÿคฉ I was just talking to my friend in math class about Siri and how it's still kinda meh ๐Ÿ˜. But if Subramanya is taking over, maybe we'll see some improvements soon?! ๐Ÿคž What do you guys think? Should Apple focus more on AI for school projects too?! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’ป

I'm low-key hyped about this move ๐Ÿคฉ! Amar Subramanya's experience leading AI teams is exactly what Apple needs right now. I mean, we all know Apple's been struggling to deliver a more personalized Siri experience ๐Ÿ˜. With Giannandrea retiring soon, it was only a matter of time before they brought in someone with fresh expertise ๐Ÿ’ก. Subramanya's at Google for 16 years, so you know he's no rookie ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. I'm curious to see how he'll tackle AI Safety and Evaluation โ€“ that's a major area where Apple needs improvement ๐Ÿšจ. Fingers crossed this move will finally get us some AI innovation ๐Ÿ”ฅ!

Just heard that Amar Subramanya is joining Apple as VP of AI. I'm pretty sure he's going to make Siri even less annoying ๐Ÿ˜‚. But seriously, this move could mean bigger and better things for Apple's AI game. Like, imagine having a personalized assistant that actually knows what you want ๐Ÿค–. Still, we'll have to wait and see how it all plays out. One thing's for sure, with Subramanya on board, Apple's gonna be the talk of the town... or at least, the talk of Silicon Valley ๐Ÿ˜„.

๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ’ป I'm thinking... our current AI landscape is moving so fast ๐Ÿš€! It's hard to keep up. With this new move by Apple, they're putting their money where their mouth is ๐Ÿ’ธ. Amar Subramanya brings in some serious experience from his time at Google and Microsoft.

I wonder how he'll tackle the issues with Siri... it's been a while since we saw significant improvements ๐Ÿค”. But hey, with Subramanya on board, I'm hopeful for the future! ๐ŸŒŸ

Here's a simple mind map to visualize this:

+-----------------------+
| Apple AI Department |

| Siri Project
v
+-----------------------+
| Subramanya (New VP) |
+-----------------------+

Hope that helps! ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿ˜Š I've got a feelin' that this move by Apple is gonna shake things up in the tech world! They're not just focusing on Siri anymore ๐Ÿค–, they're talkin' about buildin' a whole new foundation for their AI games ๐Ÿ’ป. Amar Subramanya's got the credentials to back it up, but we'll see how he handles the pressure ๐Ÿ•ณ๏ธ. Can't wait to see what kind of innovative projects come outta this deal! It's like Apple is sayin', "Hey, we're not just about gadgets anymore, we're about makin' a real difference" ๐Ÿ’ก. Time will tell if they can deliver on that promise ๐Ÿ”ฎ!

idk about this new guy, seems like just another corporate yes-man ๐Ÿค‘. apple's already got a reputation for being all hype and no substance when it comes to ai, now they're gonna try to paper over that with some fancy title change? ๐Ÿ“ subramanya's cv sounds impressive, but how many times can one person fail at google before they just get transferred somewhere else? ๐Ÿ˜’

๐Ÿค” So, I'm thinking... with Subramanya on board, it's like Apple is finally getting serious about making its AI capabilities a priority ๐Ÿš€. I mean, they've had some stumbles in the past (hello Siri delays ๐Ÿ˜’), but this new VP might just be the push they need to get things right. It's interesting that they're focusing on areas like foundation models and AI safety too - I think that's a smart move, as those are areas where Apple can really make a big impact.

Of course, it's hard to know what to expect from Subramanya, but if he can bring his expertise from Google and Microsoft, I think Apple is in good hands ๐Ÿ™. And hey, maybe this is the push they need to finally deliver on those personalized Siri experiences... fingers crossed ๐Ÿคž

I donโ€™t usually comment but... think this is a big deal for Apple ๐Ÿค”! They're basically setting up their AI game with someone who's already proven themselves at Google and Microsoft ๐Ÿ’ป. It's gonna be interesting to see how they bring these skills to the table and improve Siri - I mean, it's not like we haven't been waiting for that for ages ๐Ÿ˜…. The fact that Tim Cook is giving credit to Craig Federighi with pushing forward the revamped project shows he's aware of the importance of AI in their ecosystem ๐Ÿ“ˆ. Now, let's see if Subramanya can live up to the hype and make Apple a leader in AI research and development ๐Ÿ’ก.

I'm so stoked to see Apple making a move like this ๐Ÿคฉ! Having Amar Subramanya on board is a huge win for their AI department. I mean, 16 years at Google and Corporate VP of AI at Microsoft? That's some serious cred ๐Ÿ’ฏ. He's gonna bring that expertise and innovation vibe to Apple, which is so needed right now. I'm curious to see how he'll tackle AI Safety and Evaluation - that's like, super important stuff ๐Ÿค”. And with Craig Federighi in the mix, things are bound to get interesting ๐Ÿ˜. Can't wait to see what they come up with next! ๐Ÿ’ป

Just heard about this new VP of AI at Apple ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ’ป - gotta say I'm intrigued by Amar Subramanya's background ๐Ÿ™Œ He's like a rockstar in the AI world, having spent 16 years at Google and leading some crazy innovative projects ๐Ÿ˜ฒ Not sure what to expect from his work at Apple yet, but it'll be interesting to see how he shakes things up ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿค” so apple thinks they can just swoop in and hire some big-name AI researcher like amar subramanya and suddenly become the ai overlords? ๐Ÿค‘ 16 years at google and microsoft is a lot, but can't we get a clue on what makes him tick? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿค” just wondering if they're really gonna make ai that's even remotely cool? like, I mean we've had siri for years and it's still super basic ๐Ÿ™„ apple needs to step up their game here. subramanya seems like a solid pick tho, 16 yrs at google is no joke ๐Ÿ’ฏ
