Australian influencer's illegal crypto gambling ads permitted by Meta despite Acma warning of $2.4m fine

Australian Influencer's Crypto Gambling Ads Allow to Run Despite Regulator Warning, Meta Says Nothing.

Influencer Dinah, with 820,000 followers on Instagram, has been promoting Rainbet, an offshore crypto casino, without adhering to guidelines from the Australian regulator. The platform is described as a "online crypto casino" by its self-proclaimed owner and features in captions such as: "WHY PAY RENT WHEN U CAN JUST DOUBLE IT???? (ty rainbet! link in bio - helps me out a lot)", alongside videos where Dinah can be seen using the app while playing or driving.

Regulators have warned social media influencers to avoid promoting illegal gambling services, but Meta failed to take action against Dinah's account despite nearly a dozen reports of her posts pushing Rainbet's crypto-gambling app to her followers in January. When reports were filed with the Australian Communications and Media Authority (Acma), Meta said that they didn't go against their community standards on fraud or scams, although it seems that the regulators are looking for such actions.

In response to previous complaints, Meta said that Rainbet had implemented measures to prevent Australians from accessing its services. However, when Guardian Australia reported one of Dinah's posts, it was allowed to remain online despite being restricted from view by teens.

Acma has previously issued a warning, stating that promoting illegal gambling services in Australia can result in fines of up to $2.4 million for influencers who share the links to these sites. It also mentioned the regulation would prevent Australians from accessing blocked sites using virtual private networks.

In this case, it appears that Meta didn't take any concrete actions despite repeated reports and warnings about Rainbet's activities.

come on meta ๐Ÿ˜’! how can u let dinah promote an offshore casino with 820k followers? thats like putting up a 'for sale' sign on ur own house ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿšซ, u gotta take action against her ads when the regulator warns u about them. its not just about protecting ppl from scammers, its also about following rules & showing u care about online safety ๐Ÿ’ก. dinah might have 820k followers but she's still promoting an app that could ruin peoples lives ๐Ÿค•. meta needs to step up ur game ๐Ÿš€ and take responsibility for policing these kinds of ads ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ

Ugh I'm so worried about my kids seeing these kinda ads! ๐Ÿคฏ I know Dinah has a big following, but come on Meta, you gotta do better than just saying nothing! ๐Ÿ™„ It's like you're just letting her get away with promoting this risky stuff. What if some of her followers are underage? ๐Ÿ’” Or worse, they get hooked and spend all their money on these crypto casinos? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I wish Acma would take stricter action against influencers who promote this kind of thing. The thought of those fines being slapped on them is just the motivation needed for Meta to step up their game! ๐Ÿ‘Š

I'm low-key worried about all this. I mean, Dinah's got 820k followers on Instagram and she's basically running a legit casino ad campaign without Meta doing squat about it ๐Ÿค”. Like, what even is the point of having guidelines if no one's gonna enforce them? It's not like Rainbet's trying to scam people or anything... yet ๐Ÿ’ธ. I'm all for free speech and influencers being able to promote whatever they want, but when it comes to something as sketchy as crypto-gambling, I think some sort of oversight is needed ๐Ÿ™„.

๐Ÿ˜• I'm really concerned about Dinah's actions, she's got so many followers to look out for but she just doesn't seem to care... I mean, who wants to gamble while driving? ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ฌ It's like she's putting her followers in a tough spot and not even thinking twice. And on top of that, the regulators are warning about this stuff left and right and still nothing gets done by Meta ๐Ÿ™„. I don't get why they can't just take action when people report these kinds of ads... it's like they're letting a whole lot of people down ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ.

I'm shocked they didnt shut down Dinah's account ages ago ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, Acma warned her like 3 times already! How can Meta just sit on their hands? Its not fair to the people who report these shady influencers that nothing gets done ๐Ÿ™„. I feel bad for the Aussies who cant even trust social media anymore. What's next, are they gonna let these offshore casinos run wild and make a fortune off vulnerable people?

๐Ÿค” I'm so confused why Meta isn't taking action against Dinah promoting Rainbet ๐Ÿค‘ its a huge red flag especially with the acma warning... I get that social media is all about free speech but come on, its not like she's just sharing her own opinion or something ๐Ÿ˜’ if her 820k followers are getting misled into using an offshore crypto casino thats not cool at all ๐Ÿ‘Ž

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ I mean, what's next? Influencers promoting pyramid schemes on their Instagram stories and Meta just being like "nah, chill"? ๐Ÿ™„ I get that Dinah has a big following, but comes on, don't be that person who gets caught up in crypto-gambling ads. And seriously, how hard is it for Meta to review these posts? Like, 10 reports shouldn't be an automatic "ok, let's leave this one alone". ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ The Acma has some serious guidelines to follow here, and I'm not seeing much effort from Meta to enforce them. Guess that's what happens when you're more worried about your ad revenue than doing the right thing... ๐Ÿ˜’

This is getting out of hand ๐Ÿคฏ! I'm shocked that a platform like Meta wouldn't do more to stop influencer Dinah from promoting an offshore crypto casino without adhering to guidelines from the Australian regulator. It's like they're just sitting on their hands ๐Ÿ™„, waiting for someone to get caught red-handed.

As a parent, it makes me sick to think about my kids potentially being exposed to these kinds of ads. I want them to grow up in a safe and responsible online environment, not one where they're encouraged to gamble with money they don't even have ๐Ÿ’ธ. The regulators are doing their job by warning social media influencers, but Meta needs to step up and take action against platforms like Rainbet that are clearly breaking the rules.

I know I'm just a parent, but it seems like common sense would dictate that Meta would do more to protect their users from harm ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. Until they do, I'll be keeping a close eye on this situation and hoping that something gets done soon ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ.

I just can't believe what I'm reading ๐Ÿ˜ฑ! So an influencer with 820k followers is getting away scot-free promoting some dodgy crypto casino and no one's doing a thing about it? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ I mean, I get that influencers have their own channels to monetize, but when it comes to something as shady as this, shouldn't Meta take more responsibility?

I've got two grandkids who are always glued to their screens, and the thought of them stumbling upon one of Dinah's posts is just terrifying ๐Ÿ˜จ. It's not like she's promoting some harmless gaming app; this is blatant gambling promotion aimed at vulnerable people. What's going on? Has Meta lost its way?

It's also got me thinking about all those warning signs Acma put out - fines up to $2.4 million for influencers who break the rules... where's that enforcement when it matters most? ๐Ÿค” This whole thing just smells of laxity and a lack of accountability, if you ask me ๐Ÿ™„

omg is this even possible?! i mean i know people think meta has no control over what goes on these platforms but come on they're supposed to protect their users ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘€ dinah's posts are literally promoting an offshore casino and it's just allowed to run wild on her followers' feeds? ๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿšจ where is the accountability?!

I'm so worried about our young folks getting sucked into those crypto-gambling ads ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, Dinah's got 820k followers, but does anyone know what's really going on behind the scenes? It's like she's just being paid to promote whatever Rainbet's peddling without even thinking about the consequences for her fans. And Meta just shrugs and says it's not against their rules... that doesn't sit right with me ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ. Those Aussie regulators are trying to protect people from getting taken advantage of, but if Meta's gonna turn a blind eye, what's the point? It's like we're living in some kind of dark ages where old people like me get to worry about our grandkids getting scammed out of their savings ๐Ÿ’ธ.

omg what a shocker ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ... meta being all chill about influencer ads for offshore crypto casinos who would've thought ๐Ÿ™„... like, i get it, dinah has a lot of followers and she's got to keep them entertained (or so she thinks ๐Ÿ˜ด), but is this really the kind of content we wanna see on our feeds? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ anyway, gotta love how acma is on top of things, keeping those influencers in line ๐Ÿ™Œ... fingers crossed they can get meta to take some real action next time... maybe a good ol' fashioned slap on the wrist ๐Ÿ‘Š

Ugh, I'm so frustrated with Meta right now ๐Ÿ˜ค. They're supposed to be protecting their users, but instead they're letting these influencers get away with promoting shady stuff like this crypto casino. Dinah's posts are basically just an infomercial for Rainbet, and it's crazy that she can just keep sharing them without any consequences ๐Ÿค‘. I mean, I know the regulators have warned her, but Meta should be doing more to police their platform and make sure users aren't getting scammed ๐Ÿ’ธ. It's like they're just turning a blind eye to this stuff...not cool, Meta ๐Ÿ˜’.

๐Ÿค” Like, I'm not surprised at all... meta just really needs to do a better job of policing their platform, you know? ๐Ÿšซ I mean, Dinah has like, thousands of followers and she's basically getting away with promoting some shady stuff. It's weird that they didn't even take down her posts when there were reports filed about it. And what's up with the whole "measures to prevent Australians from accessing" thing? Sounds like just a PR stunt to me ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

omg I cant believe meta is allowing dinah to keep posting those ads! like she knows its against the rules and yet they're just sitting there not doing anything about it ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿšซ. its not right that aussie regulators are warning her and meta is just ignoring it. i mean i get it, metas got to follow their own rules and all but come on, dinahs promoting some sketchy offshore casino and its a huge problem for the ppl who wanna gamble responsibly ๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿ’ธ. what if some of her followers get hooked into this stuff? its a big responsibility as an influencer, and im not sure i trust meta to keep it together ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’ช
