Box Office: ‘Zootopia 2’ Leads the Pack With $38.5 Million on Black Friday

Disney's "Zootopia 2" dominated the Black Friday box office with a whopping $38.5 million from 4,000 domestic theaters, securing its spot at the top of the pack. With this impressive start, the animated sequel has already amassed a staggering $97.7 million in North America since its debut on Wednesday, putting it on track to gross over $155 million during its first five days of release.

While not able to surpass "Moana 2" as the highest Thanksgiving week earner, with a whopping $225 million, "Zootopia 2" is still poised for an impressive performance. With predictions suggesting earnings above $150 million, it would catapult the film into the realm of Turkey Day power grossers like "Frozen II" ($125 million over five days) and "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" ($109 million).

The sequel's success can be attributed to its engaging storyline, directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard. The return of Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) as they investigate the presence of a reptilian outsider in their mammal-centric metropolis promises an exciting ride.

Coming in second was "Wicked: For Good," which garnered $26 million from 4,115 theaters. While experiencing a 62% decline from its previous Friday's debut, this musical sequel still boasts impressive earnings of $226.6 million at the domestic box office so far.

In contrast, new releases "Eternity" and "Rental Family" struggled to gain traction on Black Friday. The fantasy romance film from A24 earned a modest $1.1 million from 1,348 locations, while Brendan Fraser's "Rental Family" took in $800,000 in North America.

Other notable films, including Chloé Zhao's awards hopeful "Hamnet," Edgar Wright's dystopian action comedy "The Running Man," and the third installment in the magical heist series "Now You See Me: Now You Don’t," also performed well on Black Friday.

OMG 🤩 just saw the box office numbers for Zootopia 2 and I'm like YAAAS! $38.5 million on its first day is insane 💸🎥! I think what's working in their favor is the fact that the original was a total game-changer 🤪 and people are still totally hooked on Judy & Nick's adventures 🐰🦊. Plus, Jared Bush and Byron Howard did an amazing job bringing the story to life - it's just so engaging! 😍 I'm definitely keeping an eye on this one, fingers crossed it breaks the $150 million mark 💸!

um so zootopia 2 is like literally making a ton of money already i mean $97.7 million in just 5 days thats crazy 🤑 and they're gonna hit that $155 million mark easily now can someone pls explain to me how movies make money like do theaters take all the money or what 🤔 also whats up with these titles for new movies like eternity what does that even mean lol is it a good movie or just a fancy name 🎬

yaaas 🎉 I'm so stoked to see Disney's Zootopia 2 killing it at the box office! 💸 The fact that they're already over $97 million in North America is just insane 🔥 And with predictions of earnings above $150 million, this film is gonna make some serious magic ✨ The return of Judy and Nick is always a winner for me 🤗 Can't wait to see how it all unfolds! 🎬

🤔 So $38.5 mil is a crazy number for a movie that just came out on Wednesday... how did they even make so much dough from like 4,000 theaters in one day? seems like some kinda Hollywood magic 🎩 or maybe it's just people still loving Zootopia as much as I do? 🐰👀

I'm not buying it 🤑 that $38.5 million is a record for Disney's Black Friday debut. I mean, $97.7 million in just five days sounds like a lot, but have we seen those numbers from the source? Where's the breakdown? Are they including streaming revenue or just box office sales? And what about the competition? Did "Moana 2" really win that big Thanksgiving week earner title or was it just a one-off fluke? I need some solid sources before I start hyping up this film 📊

I don't usually comment but... I'm kinda surprised that Zootopia 2 is doing so well? Like, people seem to love it still? 🤔 I mean, the original was cute and all, but I wasn't expecting this level of success from a sequel. Maybe it's because they didn't mess up the formula or something?

It's also interesting how some movies are just tanking while others are like "Hey, let's make lots of money!" 🤑 Like, Rental Family is only getting 800k? That's crazy low. I guess that's what happens when you're trying to compete with giant Disney sequels.

And can we talk about the musical numbers for a sec? Wicked: For Good seems like it's still pulling in big bucks despite that weird decline from last week. Is there something special about those songs that just keeps people coming back?

Anyway, I don't usually comment but... it's always fun to see what's happening in the world of movies! 😊

I think what's up with these holiday releases is how much money they're raking in! $155 million from one weekend, that's insane 🤑. I mean, I'm no expert but it seems like people just love a good animated movie, especially if the characters are lovable and quirky like Judy Hopps 😊. The storyline for Zootopia 2 sounds really engaging too, I'd want to check it out myself.

It's also interesting how some of these movies perform well despite or because of being released on Black Friday 🎉. I think that's what makes the holiday season so special - it brings people together to enjoy some fun and festive entertainment. And let's be real, who doesn't love a good musical? Wicked: For Good has definitely got some serious mojo 💃.

But yeah, I'm also curious about those new releases that didn't do as well 🤔. Eternity from A24, for instance... maybe it needs more time to find its audience or something? Either way, there's always room for growth and improvement in the world of cinema.

omg I'm so hyped for Zootopia 2!!! 🐰💥 I've been waiting for this sequel for ages! The storyline sounds like it's gonna be SO good with Judy and Nick investigating a reptile in the city... I need to see that ASAP! 🎥 Meanwhile, I kinda feel bad for Eternity and Rental Family tho, they just didn't seem to get the hype 😔 Guess we can look forward to more Zootopia goodness instead! 💖

OMG, 155 million is like, a crazy amount of money for just 5 days 🤑🎥 I think it's so cool that Zootopia 2 is doing so well! The storyline sounds so interesting with the reptilian outsider and all 😂 Can't wait to see more of Judy and Nick's adventures 💖

omg yaaas Zootopia 2 is SICKENING!!! i'm low-key hyped for that 155 million prediction, who's ready to join Judy and Nick on their wild adventure? 🤯💫 gotta give it up to Disney for bringing back the magic, and those box office numbers are straight fire 🔥👏

Ugh I'm so over how every Disney movie just dominates at the box office 🤯💸 Like, can't we have a chance to see some smaller films get some love for once? I mean don't get me wrong, Zootopia 2 is fun and all, but it's like they're basically guaranteed to win from the start 😒. And the numbers are getting crazy... $155 million in five days? That's insane 🤑. Meanwhile, I saw Rental Family, which was literally playing in one theater near me, and it only got like $800k 🤷‍♀️. What even is the point of having a box office if some movies just get left out of the spotlight? 🎥😕

I'm loving how Disney is killing it with Zootopia 2 🎥💸. It's like they're saying, 'Hey, we can still make bank without any congressional interference' 😉. But seriously, their economic stimulus package... I mean, marketing strategy is on point! The return of the dynamic duo Judy and Nick is a masterclass in how to use the free market to drive box office success 🤑. Meanwhile, those other new releases are like the lesser-known but still important legislative bills – they might not be getting all the attention, but they're still making a difference 💪. And let's be real, it's all about competition – Disney's got the big guns and Moana 2 is trying to bring home the bacon 🍖️. I'm just here for the spectacle and the numbers, though – who needs fiscal responsibility when you've got a $38.5 million opening day? 💸👀

You can't stay in your corner of the forest waiting for people to come to you. You have to go to them. - Winnie the Pooh 🐻💫 (I think it's time to leave our cozy theaters and head out to support these amazing films!)

man... $38.5 million on black friday is insane! they really nailed it with zootopia 2's storyline, it's like they took a chance and made it work 😂. i remember watching the first one back in like 2016 and loving it, so i'm glad they're still bringing that magic to the big screen. moana 2 is crazy tho, 225 million dollars on turkey day? that's just wild 🤯

OMG 🤯 I'm loving how Disney is killing it with Zootopia 2! 🐰💸 The numbers are insane, especially considering it's a sequel! 😲 I think the engaging storyline and return of our favorite characters really paid off. The fact that it's already made over $97 mil in just four days is, like, wow 🤯. And with predictions suggesting earnings above $150 mil, it's gonna be a major hit! 💸 Now, let's see how the other movies stack up... Wicked: For Good was nice, but I think Rental Family struggled to get off the ground 😐. Still, there are some awesome new releases like Hamnet and The Running Man 🎬 Can't wait to see what else 2025 has in store! 🎥

I mean I'm not surprised that Zootopia 2 is killing it at the box office 🤩, but $38.5 million on just one day? That's crazy! The animation is still top-notch and I love how they brought back Judy and Nick - it's like no time has passed since the first movie 🐰💕. Moana 2 might be doing well, but Zootopia 2 seems to have a better shot at reaching those $150 million predictions 💸. It's great to see some new movies coming out too, like Eternity and Rental Family - I'll definitely be checking them out! 👀

🤔 i mean, zootopia 2 is def a solid film lol. i was kinda meh about it at first but now that its doing so well i'm like "okay, this might actually be good" 🤷‍♂️ the cast looks pretty fun and the storyline sounds interesting. i'm also hyped for hamnet tho, chloe zhaos been on a roll lately 🎥

OMG THIS IS SO EXCITING!!! 💥 I mean can you even believe that Zootopia 2 is already raking in so much dough? $38.5 million on Black Friday alone is insane! 🤯 And it's not just the numbers, I love how they're bringing back our favorite characters Judy and Nick - it's going to be such a fun ride! 😆 The storyline sounds engaging too, can't wait to see what happens next! 👀

🤔 So I was thinking, when it comes to success like Zootopia 2, it's not just about being a hit on opening day (although that's cool too 😎), but about the momentum you build from there. It's like, imagine you're on a roll at work or in life - you gotta keep pushing forward and building on what's working. Don't be afraid to take risks and try new things, but also don't get discouraged if not everything goes as planned. Just learn from it and keep moving forward! 💪 And hey, it sounds like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are doing just that - they're back in the game and making some magic happen 🎉
