Broncos quarterback Bo Nix out for season with broken ankle in playoff win

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix suffered a season-ending broken ankle in Saturday's divisional-round victory over Buffalo, leaving his playoff run in tatters. The injury occurred late in overtime, when Nix went down after losing two yards on a keeper play and was tackled by safety Cole Bishop.

Initially, there were no indications that the injury was serious, with Nix limping away from the play without any signs of distress. However, it soon became clear that his day was over, as he failed to return to the game and ultimately had to take a knee for Wil Lutz's game-winning 23-yard field goal.

Coach Sean Payton delivered the devastating news about Nix's injury in the post-game press conference, confirming that he will require surgery and be sidelined for the rest of the playoffs. Backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham is set to start the AFC championship game next weekend.

According to Payton, Nix suffered the ankle injury on a play where he attempted to advance the ball two yards, but was brought down by Bishop. The coach noted that while Nix's injury may seem like a significant setback, it only serves as another test of his team's resilience.

Payton also praised Nix's toughness and Christian faith, saying that he is "such a strong, faith-based guy" who will bounce back from this setback. Noting that Nix has experienced similar injuries in the past, Payton joked that if he had known about these pre-existing conditions, he may not have drafted him.

Nix, the 12th overall pick from Oregon in last year's draft, has already achieved significant success in his young career, tying Russell Wilson's record for most wins by a quarterback in their first two seasons. His playoff win on Saturday marked a major milestone in Denver's season, as they secured the AFC's top seed despite losing key players throughout the year.

Despite Nix's injury, Payton remains confident that his team will rise to the next challenge and overcome any setbacks. With Stidham set to lead them into the championship game, Denver is now poised to make a deep playoff run without their star quarterback.

I cant believe what just happened to bo nix! 🀯 he was having such an awesome season and now hes done for the year πŸ’” his team needs him like never before but with jarrett stidham stepping up i think they can make a deep playoff run without him πŸ’ͺ coach payton is being super positive about it too which is awesome but its def gonna be tough without nix leading them 🀞

πŸ€• so frustrating when your QB gets hurt like this... season-ending ankle injury for Bo Nix 😞. gotta feel for him, he's been crushing it all year πŸ‘. Coach Payton always talks about resilience, but I bet he didn't expect it to be put to the test like this πŸ’ͺ. backup Jarrett Stidham's gonna have to step up and lead the team to the championship πŸ†πŸ‘Š. think they've got what it takes tho, been an incredible season so far πŸ”₯. Nix might not get to play in the championship, but his legacy lives on πŸ’«

πŸ˜’ I'm not buying it. Coach Payton's comment about Nix being "such a strong, faith-based guy" who'll bounce back from this setback feels like a PR stunt to me πŸ€”. It's one thing to acknowledge the player's resilience, but another to inject his personal beliefs into the conversation. Where's the evidence that this is really about Nix's Christian faith and not just a convenient narrative to sell the team's story? πŸ“° I need more context or sources on this before I start believing it πŸ’‘

man thats so sad for bo nix πŸ€• he was havin such an epic season too...i feel bad for him that it all had to end like this πŸ’” but you gotta give it up for sean payton tho, the way he's handling it is really admirable πŸ’― as a team, they're gonna have to step up and support each other now more than ever 🀝 and on a bigger note, its just another reminder that injuries are an inevitable part of sports, we just gotta stay positive and support our guys thru the tough times πŸ’ͺ

Ugh, Bo Nix... πŸ€• I gotta feel for him, but this is just so harsh. One play and he's done for the season? It's like, what were they even thinking out there on that last drive? πŸ™„ Cole Bishop's got some 'splainin' to do.

I know Payton's trying to spin this as a test of his team's resilience, but come on... Bo Nix is their QB and he was doing just fine. This injury could've happened to anyone, not just him. And now they're relying on Jarrett Stidham to lead them into the championship game? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I don't know if that's gonna be enough.

I do gotta give Payton credit for trying to pump up Bo's faith and all that, but it feels like a pretty weak attempt at distraction. And honestly, who knew they'd have so many injuries this year? It's like the Broncos are just asking for the world to come against them. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Ugh, can we talk about how ridiculous it is that they still haven't figured out how to make these games more player-friendly? Like, Bo Nix gets hurt on a keeper play and no one thinks twice until he's limping off the field πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. And now they're saying he'll "bounce back" from this injury... like it's not even a big deal πŸ˜’. Newsflash: ankles are a major deal, especially in football. Can't we just have better medical care and more protective gear on these guys? It's getting old watching them get hurt and still expecting them to magically recover πŸ’”. And what's with the "tough guy" speech from Coach Payton? πŸ™„ We know Nix is tough, but come on, don't sugarcoat it for us fans 😊.

OMG, noooo! πŸ€•πŸ˜± Bo Nix's season-ending injury is such a bummer! I was hyped about his team making it to the AFC championships πŸ˜ƒ. Stidham is gonna have to step up and lead them to victory, but can he do it? πŸ€” The Broncos are so lucky to have had him all season, and now they're going into this game with a major question mark on their QB position 🀯. I'm still rooting for them though, they've got the momentum and the top seed, so let's see if Stidham can keep it up! πŸ’ͺ

😱 Oh man, this is super bad news for the Broncos! I was really rooting for Bo Nix, he's been doing so well this season 🀞. A broken ankle at this point in the playoffs is just devastating πŸ’”. I'm not sure how they're gonna make it without him, but Coach Payton seems like a pro and has faith in his backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham πŸ™. Still, it's tough to watch Nix go down like that, especially when he was having such an amazing season πŸŽ‰. Fingers crossed he recovers quickly and can come back strong next year πŸ’ͺ

man this sucks for bo nix πŸ€• he's had an amazing season so far and now his whole playoff run is just done cuz of that stupid injury 😞 coach payton is trying to be all optimistic but come on, it's a broken ankle πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ anyone else think jarrett stidham is gonna get roasted by the opponents in the championship game? πŸ€” i mean don't get me wrong, he's a solid backup and all but let's just say i'm gonna be glued to my screen next week watching that one go down πŸ‘€

OMG, what a bummer for Bo Nix!! 😱 that ankle break is so brutal lol, sucks he had 2 seasons of momentum and just got derailed like dat πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Sean Payton's got some nerve talkin bout his toughness though, been there done that? πŸ™„ and btw why draft someone with pre existing conditions πŸ€‘... anywayz cant wait to see what jarrett stidham brings 2 the table, hope he doesnt choke under pressure πŸ˜…

πŸ€• Man, that's a tough break for Bo Nix πŸ€•... I feel bad for the guy, he was having an amazing season too πŸ’”. I mean, 12th overall pick from Oregon and already tying Russell Wilson's record in two seasons? That's some next-level stuff πŸ™Œ! And now he's gonna have to sit out the rest of the playoffs? 😬 That's just not fair.

I think Coach Payton is a genius, though πŸ’‘. He knows how to keep his team's spirits up and get 'em pumped for the next challenge πŸ”₯. And backup QB Jarrett Stidham stepping in is no joke πŸ™Œ. I'm rooting for them all the way! πŸ’ͺ They might not have Nix, but they've got heart and determination. Bring it on, AFC championship game! 🏈

omg what a bummer for Bo Nix πŸ€• he's such a talented QB and that injury just changed everything for Denver... i mean coach Payton is trying to stay positive but it's hard not to feel bad for the guy who's gonna miss the whole playoffs πŸ˜” at least he's strong in his faith and that's gotta be some comfort for him πŸ’• and now Jarrett Stidham gets to shine in the championship game πŸŽ‰ I hope Nix recovers fast so he can be back with his team next season πŸ‘

This is like so sad for Bo Nix πŸ€•πŸ˜”, I mean, what's next? He was on fire out there and now his ankle is done 😩. The Broncos are still gonna crush it though, they're like the ultimate underdogs story πŸ’ͺ🏽! Sean Payton is right tho, this is just another test of their team's strength and resilience πŸ”₯πŸ’Ό. And let's be real, Jarrett Stidham is about to become a legend 🀩! Nix might've been injured but his legacy will live on #BoNixForever #BroncosNation #PlayoffRun

man i feel bad for bo nix πŸ€•... season ending ankle injury sucks πŸ˜”. he's been having an awesome rookie year, breaking records and all that jazz πŸ’₯. but you gotta give props to sean payton for keeping it real about the team's resilience πŸ’ͺ. yeah, nix is a tough guy, but come on, 12th overall pick? that's like drafting a diamond in the rough 🌟. anyway, jarrett stidham might just lead them to victory next weekend 🀞... we'll see how it all plays out βš–οΈ.

Ugh man, Bo Nix's season is literally over πŸ€•πŸ’”. A broken ankle in overtime of a game-winning situation? That's just not fair πŸ™„. I mean, you can't even get two yards without getting hurt nowdays 😩. And to make matters worse, his team has to go into the championship game with Jarrett Stidham, who's not exactly the next Tom Brady πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. It's gonna be tough for them to win it all now πŸ’”.

😬 Omg what a terrible timing for bo nix!! πŸ’” he was already having an amazing season & then this just ruins everything πŸ€• i dont think backup jarrett stidham can replace him tho 🀯 the broncos are gonna miss that guy so much πŸ‘‹πŸ’•

πŸ€•πŸ˜¬ this is just what I knew was gonna happen... Bo Nix is like a ticking time bomb, injury prone and all that πŸ™ˆ it's so sad for him, he was having an amazing season too πŸ’” but you gotta respect Sean Payton for keeping it real about Bo's 'pre-existing conditions' πŸ˜‚πŸ‘€ and now they're counting on Stidham to lead them into the championship game... I mean, can they really do it without their QB? πŸ€” still got my fingers crossed for Denver though πŸ’ͺ

ugh that's so bummer for denver brons fans πŸ€• bo nix was having such an amazing season too, tying russell wilson's record and all... his toughness and faith are definitely going to help him bounce back from this πŸ˜” but it's still gonna be tough losing him in the playoffs. jarrett stidham stepping up is a good thing tho 🀞 i hope denver can still make a deep run without nix, they've worked too hard for this πŸ’ͺ

ugh my heart lol bo nix what are u gonna do now ?? πŸ€•πŸ˜± i feel so bad 4 him he's been on fire this season and that injury just came outta nowhere ... like coach payton said he's "such a strong faith-based guy" but we all know how injuries can affect a person's game ... hope jarrett stidham can step up and lead the team 2 victory 🀞🏈
