Brooklyn man charged in stabbing death of his 85-year-old grandmother

A Brooklyn man has been charged with the brutal murder of his 85-year-old grandmother, Julia Boomer, in a shocking turn of events that has left authorities and family members reeling. Jackson King, a 22-year-old resident of Bedford-Stuyvesant, was arrested on Friday for allegedly wielding a deadly knife in Tuesday's fatal attack.

According to police, the victim suffered multiple stab wounds during the altercation at their shared apartment, leaving her fighting for her life. Despite initial reports suggesting that the attack may have been linked to King experiencing a psychotic episode, he has now been charged with murder and a weapons offense.

King had been taken into custody hours after the crime was committed but wasn't formally charged until Friday's announcement. However, police revealed they were initially investigating the possibility of the attack being part of a mental health crisis. The investigation is ongoing, and no information on King's representation has been made public.

This gruesome murder marks the first killing in 2026 for the NYPD's 79th Precinct, which covers Bed-Stuy among other areas. It also represents the latest in a trend of rising violence in Brooklyn. Despite some fluctuations in 2024 and 2025, with eight reported homicides each year, overall citywide murders have plummeted by more than 20% since last year.

Boomer's tragic death brings the total number of killings within the precinct to one for this year, following an otherwise relatively quiet period that saw eight reported homicides in both 2024 and 2025.

omg this is so sad 🤕 i dont even no what to say about this young guy king he was like only 22 years old and already did something like this its such a shock. i feel bad for his grandma too, she was 85 and didnt deserve to die like that 😭 i wonder whats going on in this guys head tho maybe hes been struggling with some mental health issues or somethin? anyway hopefully he gets the help he needs and learns from this experience 💕

omg can't believe what happened to that poor granny her family must be literally shattered i feel bad for them too king's age is just crazy how could someone do something so heinous at his age anyway hope justice gets served ASAP

Man, I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one... a 22-year-old is charged with murdering his grandma like she was nothing? 🤯 I mean, what's going through that young man's mind? You'd think someone would've stepped in sooner to stop him from hurting her. And now the whole neighborhood's left shaking their heads, wondering how this happened. It's a shame, 'cause Bed-Stuy's already got enough issues without addin' somethin' like this. I feel bad for Julia Boomer's family, they must be losin' their minds... RIP 🙏🌿

Just got wind of this Brooklyn murder case 🤯 and I gotta say, it's a real shocker. Can't believe some young dude would do something like that to his own grandmother 💔. I know we all have our struggles, but taking someone's life is never the answer 🚫. It's crazy how crime rates can go up in one area while others stay pretty low... 20% less murders overall in NYC and you've got a case like this 🤷‍♂️. Gotta wonder what was going through that young man's head when he decided to hurt his grandma 😔. Anyway, glad the police were able to catch him quickly 👮‍♂️.

This is so senseless 🤯. I mean, a 22-year-old stabbing his own grandma like that? It's just horrific. You'd think the mental health thing would've been taken more seriously from the start... but I guess that's not always how it goes down. It's crazy to think about how this whole situation unfolded in just a few days 🤦‍♂️. I hope King gets the help he needs, but at the same time, you can't help but wonder what led up to this moment 😔.

🤕 this is just terrible news, some young guy goes and kills his own grandma like that... no explanation needed, it's just senseless violence 🗑️. Brooklyn's already got a problem with rising violence and now this? it's getting out of hand 💔. I'm not sure how many times you can say 'it's going to get better' before it starts sounding like just empty words 😒. The fact that the police were investigating possible mental health issues, only for him to be charged with murder anyway... what was the point of even looking? 🤷‍♂️

omg this is crazy can u believe some 22 yr old dude just stabbed his grandma to death 😱🤯 like what's going on with these young ppl and their mental health? i mean dont get me wrong crime rates r still a major issue but stabbing ur own family member? that's just insane. and the fact they thought he might've had a psychotic episode at first is wild, but now hes been charged with murder. NYPD needs to step up their game ASAP 💔🚨

🤷‍♂️ Like, what's up with these knife-wielding young dudes? 🗡️ I mean, I'm not saying King is a total psycho or anything... but 85-year-old grandmas shouldn't have to deal with this kind of stuff, you know? 😩 It's just so sad. And the NYPD being all like "oh no, it was part of a mental health crisis" is just a nice way of saying they're not sure what else to do, right? 🤔 I guess that one homicide does put a bit of a damper on Brooklyn's otherwise quiet year though... 20% less murders overall sounds kinda good, but still 😐

🤕 This is a real wake-up call for Brooklyn, ya know? Like, we're livin' in a world where violence can happen to anyone, anywhere. 85-year-old lady, just chillin' at home, and gets stabbed to death by her own grandson... it's just not right 🚫.
