Bungie Delays Extraction Shooter Marathon, Now Launches on March 5th for $39.99
In a surprise move, Bungie has announced that its highly anticipated extraction shooter, Marathon, will now launch on March 5th, nearly four months after the initially planned release date in September.
According to reports from The Verge, Bungie had initially delayed the game following "plenty of alpha test feedback," indicating that the company was taking a closer look at the gameplay and making necessary adjustments. More recently, the studio held playtests with new features like proximity chat and an option to solo queue into games.
Marathon is set in a sci-fi universe in 2850, where players take on the role of a Runner to scavenge what's left behind. The game promises a thrilling PvPvE environment, pitting players against each other as well as creatures on planets. Players who perish during a run will lose their gear, but those who survive can keep their loot and level up over future runs.
While this delayed launch might seem like an inconvenience to fans, it's interesting that Marathon is now launching months after another extraction shooter from the same developers, ARC Raiders. In fact, Bungie had originally planned to launch Marathon ahead of ARC Raiders.
Marathon will be available on Xbox Series S / X, PS5, and PC for $39.99.
