Business owners claim City of Houston's scooter curfew is taking a toll on their bottom line

I gotta say, I kinda feel bad for those electric scooter companies . On one hand, accidents do happen and it's crazy how reckless some people can be on these things . But at the same time, 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew is straight up harsh . I mean, what's the harm in letting them ride around during late nights? It's not like they're gonna hurt anyone too badly .

I think if the city could just find some middle ground, like you said Jake , we might be able to solve this problem . More enforcement efforts would be cool, but I don't wanna see businesses get totally trampled . Rent E-Boards Houston seems like they're doing it right with their customer base and all .

I guess what I'm saying is, let's not just throw the baby out with the bathwater . Can we find a way to keep these scooters safe for everyone?

Ugh, I'm kinda sad that this is what's happening in Houston . On one hand, I get it, safety first, right? But on the other hand, 80-90% of business lost? That's like, a huge chunk of revenue gone . It makes me think about how much scooters were a part of that city's vibe back in the day . Remember when you'd ride around downtown with your friends and stuff, feeling all carefree? Now it seems like they're just parked outside, collecting dust .

I'm kinda torn on this one - safety is important, but so is making a living . Maybe they should find that balance instead of just cutting off the use of scooters entirely . And can we talk about how convenient it was to just hop on and off the streets? Now it's like they're forced to park them outside all day .

I'm kinda worried about what other cities will do if this is the future . Are they gonna start banning skateboarding too? Or going back to those clunky old roller skates?

man this curfew is like, so harsh ! i get that safety first and all but coming down on scooter companies like this? it's just gonna push 'em under especially when you got tourists comin' in from outta town who wanna rent some scooters for a night and can't even do it during the day lol. and what about the whole "if people are using them recklessly, enforce that" thing? like, isn't that kinda just a cop-out? anyway, i hope the city council does end up revising those curfew times or somethin' 'cause this 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. rule is straight up killing local businesses

They gotta find a way to balance it out, like Jake said, enforce the laws instead of just changing them . And what's with the 30-min grace period or 11 p.m curfew idea? It's like they're trying to please everyone . Anyway, I heard some big scooter companies are talking about leaving H-Town if this thing doesn't get resolved soon . Fingers crossed it works out for the shop owners

omg I was in Houston last year and rode that thing on main st it's crazy how these scooters were everywhere! I get what they're saying about safety though, those things can be fast . But 80-90% of business gone? that's insane! I mean, I'm no business expert, but I think a compromise would be better, like you said Jake Cooper . I've seen the new data and yeah, it's good to see scooter-related incidents down . But at the same time, it's not just about safety, it's about how this affects small businesses and their owners . Maybe they could get some support or training on how to deal with these scooters?
