Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 review – hallucinogenic romp through dystopia is stupidly pleasurable

Black Ops 7, the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise, has landed with a resounding splash, and it's easy to see why this annual release remains a major event for fans. Set in a dystopian 2035, where a global arms manufacturer known as the Guild claims to be the only solution to an apocalyptic new terrorist threat, Black Ops is a paranoid, conspiracy-obsessed game that delves into themes of psychopathic corporations, hybrid warfare, robotics, and tech oligarchies.

The campaign mode, which makes up just a quarter of the overall package, is a hallucinogenic romp through socio-political talking points. Players take on the role of four lead characters who are exposed to a psychotropic drug that makes them relive their worst nightmares. The result is a chaotic, relentless, and stupidly pleasurable experience, especially when played in co-op mode with friends.

But Black Ops 7 isn't just about the campaign; it's also home to some of the most polished multiplayer experiences in recent memory. New maps, guns, and gadgets are added to the mix, including the highly-regarded Alaska base map Imprint, which features a moving platform that makes taking objective points incredibly messy and disorienting.

Another standout feature is Zombies mode, an online co-op offering that takes place in a vast nightmarish hellzone of abandoned frontier towns and irradiated wastelands. Players take on wave after wave of zombie monsters while upgrading their weapons and abilities to hold out as long as possible. It's a return to the round-based structure of previous Zombies entries, with plenty of new features, including the ability to drive from area to area in a pickup truck.

For those looking for something more offbeat, Dead Ops Arcade 4 is a self-contained top-down twin-stick shooter that can be played with up to four players. This hidden gem was born as a side project by members of the original Black Ops team and has been revamped to remind old-school fans of classic shooters like Smash TV and Geometry Wars.

Finally, there's Warzone, the battle royale mode that has become a staple of modern Call of Duty experiences. With its usual refresh, Warzone brings fresh gameplay mechanics and maps to the table, ensuring that players will never be short on options.

Overall, Black Ops 7 is a maximalist paean to video game design – shooting stuff on a TV screen is indeed a hell of a lot of fun. With its slick multiplayer experiences, engaging campaign mode, and sheer amount of content, this is an exhaustive package for Call of Duty fans that's sure to satisfy even the most die-hard enthusiasts.

As for the price, Black Ops 7 is out now with a standard price tag of £69.99 – a value that's hard to argue against given the sheer amount of content on offer. Whether you're a longtime fan of the series or just looking for some slick, thrilling entertainment, Black Ops 7 has something for everyone.

🤔 I'm loving how Black Ops 7 is bringing back the nostalgic feels with Dead Ops Arcade 4, it's like playing classic shooters with friends! 👫 But at the same time, I think the game could have gone in some other directions with its storyline, like exploring more sci-fi elements instead of just going for a paranoid vibe. 🚀

The multiplayer is definitely on point though, especially with the new maps and gadgets - Alaska base map Imprint is insane! 😱 But I do wish they'd make Warzone mode more accessible to newer players, it can be tough to jump into without knowing the ropes.

What's your take on Black Ops 7? Are you hyped for the campaign, multiplayer, or Zombies mode? 🤯

I'm thoroughly enthralled by Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, it's an exemplary embodiment of the gaming industry's capacity to innovate and delight 😊. The game's meticulously crafted campaign mode is a tour-de-force, expertly weaving socio-political themes with pulse-pounding action, while its multiplayer and Zombies modes offer endless hours of competitive fun 🎮.

I must admit, I'm particularly fond of Dead Ops Arcade 4, it's an unsung hero that offers a refreshing change of pace from the more conventional Call of Duty experiences 👍. The ability to play with up to four players in this top-down twin-stick shooter is a masterstroke, evoking memories of classic shooters like Smash TV and Geometry Wars 🔥.

The addition of Warzone's fresh gameplay mechanics and maps is also a major plus, ensuring that the game stays relevant and engaging for die-hard fans 👊. Overall, Black Ops 7 is an outstanding achievement in modern gaming, delivering an exhaustive package that will satisfy even the most discerning players 💯.

I just got back from the most random road trip with my friends and we stopped at this weird museum that had an entire room dedicated to old arcade games 🤯. I swear, it was like stepping into a time capsule – I spent way too much money on playing Smash TV and Galaga for hours on end 😆. And then we went to this amazing diner for lunch where the burgers were literally as big as my head 🍔🤪. Anyway, back to Black Ops 7... I love how they've included all these different modes, like Zombies mode, which is just so much fun playing with friends 👫. I'm not sure if it's a bit too long at £69.99, but you do get so much content that it's hard to say no 😎.

I'm so hyped about this new game and I can see why its fans are super excited 🤩! The campaign is like a wild ride through conspiracy theories and dystopian themes... it's crazy and intense! And the co-op mode with friends sounds like so much fun 😆. But what really gets me is how polished everything feels, from the multiplayer to Zombies mode... this game has some serious competition for my gaming chair 🤯.

And Dead Ops Arcade 4? Who knew Call of Duty had a secret love for retro arcade games 💥! The top-down shooter mode sounds like an absolute blast to play with friends. I'm definitely adding this to my gaming wish list and pre-ordering Black Ops 7, can't wait to dive in and experience all the chaos 🎮💣

🤔 I mean, who doesn't love a good dose of paranoia and conspiracy theories in their video game? It's not like we've seen that before in other games... 😒 The fact that the campaign mode is only a quarter of the overall package kind of makes me wonder what else they left on the cutting room floor. 🤷‍♂️ Still, I guess it's hard to deny the polish and fun that Black Ops 7 brings to the table. Especially when played with friends in co-op mode - that sounds like an absolute blast! 💥 The addition of new maps, guns, and gadgets is always a bonus, but let's be real, it's not like we haven't seen those before too... 😏

omg u guys black ops 7 is LIT!!! i mean its like call of duty on steroids 🤯 the multiplayer is insane with all these new maps and guns and stuff it feels so sick to play with friends in co-op mode 😂 and zombs is back but now its even crazier than before i love how they added that truck thing to drive around lol and dead ops arcade 4 is a hidden gem fam it looks like smash tv and geometry wars combined 🤖 but seriously the value for £69.99 is insane u get so much content its a no brainer buy it now 👍
