Senate Demands ICE Explain Memo on Tracking Protesters, Calls for Immediate Action to Shut Down Database.

A letter sent by Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) to Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Todd Lyons is calling for an immediate explanation of a memo that allegedly instructs ICE agents to collect personal data on protesters and bystanders. The memo, reportedly sent to ICE agents in Minneapolis, encourages the collection of images, license plates, identification information, and general details about hotels and individuals engaging in protests.

Markey's letter condemned this practice as "shocking" and a clear violation of the First Amendment rights of US citizens exercising their right to peaceful protest. He has asked Lyons for confirmation or denial regarding the existence of such a database, if it exists, and for details on any plans to create one.
 
can't believe what's going down in america 🤯, this memo thingy is just wrong. i mean, come on! tracking people who are just exercising their right to peaceful protest? that's not only creepy but also super unconstitutional. the 1st amendment is there for a reason, we're supposed to be able to express ourselves without fear of retribution or surveillance. 🤝 can't believe the senate is stepping in like this tho, i hope they actually do shut down whatever database is being proposed, it's just not right 🚫
 
omg I'm so worried about this 🤯... they're tracking us online and offline? that's just crazy! as long as people are exercising their right to peaceful protest, we should be able to do so without being monitored like we're suspects or something. the government has got to have better things to do than keep tabs on us 24/7 🤦‍♀️... it's time for them to shut down that database ASAP and focus on more pressing issues 👍
