"Capture it all": ICE urged to explain memo about collecting info on protesters

Senate Demands ICE Explain Memo on Tracking Protesters, Calls for Immediate Action to Shut Down Database.

A letter sent by Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) to Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Todd Lyons is calling for an immediate explanation of a memo that allegedly instructs ICE agents to collect personal data on protesters and bystanders. The memo, reportedly sent to ICE agents in Minneapolis, encourages the collection of images, license plates, identification information, and general details about hotels and individuals engaging in protests.

Markey's letter condemned this practice as "shocking" and a clear violation of the First Amendment rights of US citizens exercising their right to peaceful protest. He has asked Lyons for confirmation or denial regarding the existence of such a database, if it exists, and for details on any plans to create one.

can't believe what's going down in america ๐Ÿคฏ, this memo thingy is just wrong. i mean, come on! tracking people who are just exercising their right to peaceful protest? that's not only creepy but also super unconstitutional. the 1st amendment is there for a reason, we're supposed to be able to express ourselves without fear of retribution or surveillance. ๐Ÿค can't believe the senate is stepping in like this tho, i hope they actually do shut down whatever database is being proposed, it's just not right ๐Ÿšซ

omg I'm so worried about this ๐Ÿคฏ... they're tracking us online and offline? that's just crazy! as long as people are exercising their right to peaceful protest, we should be able to do so without being monitored like we're suspects or something. the government has got to have better things to do than keep tabs on us 24/7 ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ... it's time for them to shut down that database ASAP and focus on more pressing issues ๐Ÿ‘

Ugh, can't believe this ๐Ÿคฏ... so ICE is tracking protesters now? Like, what's next? Monitoring our social media activity too? ๐Ÿ“Š It's just another example of how the powers that be are getting more and more out of control. And to think they're doing it in our name, under the guise of "national security"... please ๐Ÿ˜‚.

But at the same time, I gotta give props to Senator Markey for speaking up on this. He's one of those guys who actually cares about what's going on in this country, not just lining his pockets with cash ๐Ÿค‘. It's about time someone called out ICE for their shady tactics.

The thing is, though... even if they shut down this database, what's to stop them from creating another one? It's like they're playing a game of whack-a-mole, where no matter how hard you try to hit the mole, it just keeps popping back up ๐Ÿœ. So, fingers crossed that Markey gets some answers and we can start to see some real change around here ๐Ÿ’ช.

๐Ÿคฏ Can you believe this?! The government is basically saying they're gonna track down anyone who protests or even just walks around in areas where there's a protest ๐Ÿšซ... that's straight up Orwellian! I mean, what's next? Watching our every move 24/7? ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ It's all about control and the government wants to make sure we can't express ourselves freely anymore. The first amendment is meant to protect us from the government, not give them a way to spy on us. I'm so glad Senator Markey is speaking out against this - it's time someone in power had some courage! ๐Ÿ’ช We need to stand together and make our voices heard if we want to keep our rights as US citizens ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

๐Ÿค” I'm really worried about this, it sounds like ICE is crossing a major line with this memo. The idea that they're collecting personal data on protesters and bystanders without reason or probable cause is just plain creepy ๐Ÿšซ. And what's even more concerning is that it seems to be happening in Minneapolis, which is already dealing with some pretty tough social issues ๐Ÿ˜•. I don't think the government should be targeting innocent people exercising their right to free speech like this. The First Amendment is meant to protect us from the kind of abuse we're seeing here ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. We need more transparency and accountability, not secret databases collecting info on citizens ๐Ÿ‘€.

This is getting out of hand ๐Ÿšจ... I mean, come on! Tracking people's personal data just because they're protesting? It's like, what's next? Creating a national surveillance state or something?! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ The whole idea of peaceful protest is that people are allowed to express themselves without being monitored or controlled. It's basically saying that the government doesn't trust its own citizens to make their own decisions.

And what's up with these memos anyway? Are they some kind of secret police manual or something? ๐Ÿค” I'm seriously worried about where this is all going. We need to be standing up against this kind of overreach and making sure that our rights as US citizens aren't being trampled on. It's time for our leaders to take a stand and protect our freedoms, not curtail them. ๐Ÿ‘Š

๐Ÿค” I'm totally confused about this whole thing... Like, on one hand, it's super concerning that there's allegedly a memo out there telling ICE agents to track down protesters and stuff. I mean, isn't that just a massive invasion of their privacy? And Markey is right, the First Amendment rights should be protected. We can't just let our government agencies run around and collect personal data without any oversight... ๐Ÿšซ

But on the other hand, think about it this way - what if protesters are actually planning something violent? Shouldn't we want to know who's organizing these protests and whether they're just peaceful or not? It's a slippery slope, I guess... Maybe Markey is being too cautious and shouldn't be so quick to shut down the database without even exploring the possibility of it helping keep people safe. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐Ÿ˜’ this is getting outta hand! like what's next? they're gonna start tracking our online activities too? ๐Ÿคฏ can't believe our senators are so caught up in big bro government trying to control EVERYTHING ๐Ÿšซ gotta shut down that ICE database ASAP or else we'll lose all our freedom ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

๐Ÿค” I'm really concerned about this memo from ICE. It's like they're setting a trap for anyone who speaks out against the system ๐Ÿšจ. Collecting personal data on protesters is a huge invasion of privacy and can lead to some serious issues down the line, especially if it gets leaked or used against people. We need to make sure our government is transparent about what they're doing and that their actions align with our values of freedom and justice. Can't we all just peacefully express ourselves without being tracked? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ Let's hope ICE takes Markey's concerns seriously and shuts down this database ASAP ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿค” I'm really concerned about this development. The idea that law enforcement is collecting personal data on protesters and bystanders without any oversight is a serious infringement on civil liberties. It's not hard to imagine how this could be used to suppress dissenting voices, particularly in communities of color or marginalized groups.

In my opinion, the government should take concrete steps to ensure transparency and accountability in its law enforcement practices. This includes establishing clear guidelines for data collection and sharing, as well as regular audits to prevent any potential abuse. The database in question seems like a ticking time bomb waiting to be exploited, and it's only a matter of time before we see some serious pushback from the public.

The First Amendment is meant to protect our right to free speech and peaceful assembly, not to be undermined by government overreach. I hope Senator Markey's letter leads to some meaningful action being taken to address this issue. ๐Ÿšซ

omg u guys can u believe this?? senate is like "hey ice we need answers about ur creepy memo" ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜ฑ they're saying it's a clear violation of ppl's 1st amendment rights which means they have the right to peaceful protest ๐Ÿคฏ and now ice is collecting all this info on protesters and bystanders like what even is that?? ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ‘€ markey's letter is like super concise but like the point is clear: stop this creepy practice ASAP ๐Ÿ’ก

I mean, come on... ๐Ÿ™„ They're already tracking us with facial recognition tech, now they wanna collect our personal info just 'cause we're protesting? It's like, get outta here! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Can't even express dissent without being monitored like a Netflix binge-watcher. I'm not saying it's the most surprising thing (I mean, have you seen those "protest surveillance" videos from LA?) but still, shouldn't our rights to free speech and assembly be protected? Like, isn't that kinda... basic? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

just heard about this ๐ŸšจICE gotta get their act together already ! this memo is like something outta a sci-fi movie ๐Ÿค– collecting all that info on protesters and bystanders is just creepy they need to prioritize people's rights over "security" ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ what's next? tracking our online activity too? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ gotta have some checks in place to prevent government from getting too controlling ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ maybe it's time for some reforms in the system ๐Ÿค

OMG, can you believe what's going down with ICE?! ๐Ÿคฏ They're tracking protesters' data without any legit reason! It's like, what even is the point? The First Amendment is meant to protect us from gov't overreach, not facilitate their surveillance games ๐Ÿšซ. I mean, if they want to crack down on actual crimes, fine, but monitoring peaceful protests? That's just a slippery slope, folks! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ They gotta shut down this database ASAP, it's like a digital Gestapo ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. The gov't can do better than this. It's time for transparency and accountability ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ’ช #TrackDownICE #ProtectOurRights #ShutItDown

this is getting outta hand ๐Ÿคฏ, people are marching for change and they're being tracked like suspects? what's next? surveillance state anyone? ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ need more info on this memo tho ๐Ÿ‘€
