Celtic 1-0 Dundee: Hoops close the gap on Hearts at the top of the table as Martin O'Neill secures victory in final game as interim boss

Celtic Edge Closer to Championship With Narrow Victory Over Dundee, Closes Gap on Leaders Hearts.

Interim manager Martin O'Neill secured a crucial 1-0 victory for Celtic over Dundee at Celtic Park, drawing his side closer to league leaders Heart's title aspirations. The one-goal win sealed the gap between the two teams on goal difference, with Celtic now just eight points adrift of their Edinburgh counterparts.

O'Neill's final game in charge preceded the appointment of new interim manager Wilfried Nancy, who takes over less than an hour before kick-off. Despite being without several key players, including top scorer Reo Hatate and Uruguayan left-back Arne Engels, Celtic dominated possession and territory early on. However, Dundee posed a threat through striker Simon Murray, forcing a save from goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The breakthrough came in the 11th minute when Daizen Maeda rose above the challenge to head home Hyun-jun Yang's lofted pass after a goal-line clearance by Luke Graham. The Japan forward's header ensured Celtic took an early lead but ultimately proved decisive as Dundee could not replicate their best efforts on goal.

Celtic struggled to build upon their flying start, with Dundee threatening on several occasions before the final whistle. Marcelo Saracchi prevented Cameron Congreve from scoring in the 30th minute, while Ashley Hay and Finlay Robertson had weak shots saved by Schmeichel as the visitors pushed for an equalizer.

In stoppage time, Maeda hit the post on a counter-attack, forcing Celtic's players to celebrate the final whistle. As O'Neill left the pitch for good, his players gave him a standing ovation in recognition of his dedication to the team during his interim tenure. With 10 men after Graham's red card, Celtic displayed grit and resilience to secure the three points.

While Dundee looked impressive at times despite being beaten on the scoreboard, they cannot be faulted for underestimating their opponents. Celtic took their opportunity seriously, ensuring that O'Neill's swansong would be remembered as a testament to the team's spirit and fighting will to succeed in the top tier of Scottish football.

Wow ๐Ÿคฉ, Celtic are on fire right now! They're so close to catching Hearts, it's crazy to think about. Daizen Maeda is a lifesaver for that team, what a header ๐Ÿ’ฅ. And I gotta feel for O'Neill, giving him a standing ovation was nice touch โค๏ธ. Dundee had some good moments but just couldn't capitalize on them. Celtic showed their grit and never say die attitude, that's what sets them apart from the rest. Wilfried Nancy is in a tough spot now, big shoes to fill ๐Ÿค”.

omg u guys 4real celtic is on fire!! ๐Ÿš€ they managed to get closer 2 those heart's folks & i gotta say, martin o'Neill's final game was pretty sweet ๐Ÿ‘ he led his team 2 a crucial win despite bein down men (no key players) & it shows how dedicated he was 2 the squad. daizen maeda's goal in the 11th min was pure magic โœจ & celtic really showed their grit n resilience w/ that 1-0 lead ๐Ÿ™Œ wilfried nancy's appointment might b a bit of a gamble but i'm willin' 2 give it a shot ๐Ÿ˜Ž

man i think celtic got the right win lol they played so calm considering they were missing some key players ๐Ÿ™ anyway i dont think dundee was bad but maybe they should've seen the game out better after celts took that early lead, still a huge win for them and now its 8 points behind hearts whoop

man this o'Neill guy he went out on a high ๐Ÿ™Œ 8 points behind hearts and now it's like they got momentum going 10 men down and they still managed to grind out a win that's some serious grit ๐Ÿคฏ had to be tough for him leaving in the middle of the game gotta respect the spirit of the team tho ๐Ÿ‘

omg I'm loving this comeback from Celtic!!! ๐Ÿคฉ they really need it after that tough loss last week ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Martin O'Neill did an amazing job keeping them top of the league while he was in charge โค๏ธ and now Wilfried Nancy takes over, I'm curious to see how he'll shape the team ๐Ÿ”ฎ Daizen Maeda's goal was pure magic ๐ŸŒŸ it's like he was floating above the pitch! ๐Ÿ˜ด anyhoo, 8 points behind Hearts is still a big gap to close but Celtic's got this ๐Ÿ’ช they've shown their grit and resilience in stoppage time, I'm so hyped for the rest of the season!!! โฐ

๐Ÿค” The fact that Celtic had to play with 10 men after Graham got sent off is crazy ๐Ÿ™„. You'd think they'd have learned from their mistakes last season, but instead, it seems like they're only now getting a taste of what it means to be at the top level. They need to step up their defense if they want to catch Hearts. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

๐Ÿ† so i'm watching this game and i gotta say that celtic's victory over dundee was super clutch for them, especially with o'neill stepping down and nancy taking over last minute... it shows how dedicated the team is to winning and they definitely didn't want to let o'neill go out with a bang without giving him a win ๐Ÿ™Œ. but what really got me was that celtic played like 10 men after graham got sent off, and they still managed to secure 3 points... it's just so inspiring to see them fight for every ball and goal ๐ŸŽฏ. i also love how maeda scored that beautiful header in the 11th minute... he's literally a superhero โšก๏ธ. and omg can we talk about schmeichel's saves? the guy is like a wall between celtic's goal and dundee's shots ๐Ÿ”ฅ. all in all, what a thrilling match and i'm hyped for celtic's chances of winning the championship ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ‘Š

man this celtic team is on fire ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’ฅ they really need to hold on for another 10 games or so tho, cant believe martins gonna leave them like that ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ‘‹ new guy wilfried nancy better bring his A-game lol what a game tho, maeda's header was sick ๐Ÿ˜ฒ the scottish premier league is getting more competitive by the minute ๐Ÿ‘€ can't wait for the next match ๐Ÿ•’

I think it's crazy how everyone's saying Celtic is suddenly all over Hearts now... I mean, eight points isn't like a huge gap or anything ๐Ÿค”. And what's with all this fuss about Dundee being a team on the rise? They were pretty solid against Celtic, if you ask me ๐Ÿ˜. Plus, O'Neill getting that standing ovation from his own team is just weird... I get it, he did his job and all, but still ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. And can we talk about how Celtic's "flying start" was basically just them trying to score before Dundee even got going? ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ Not impressed by that 11-minute lead... ๐Ÿ˜’

so Celtic is all about that title win life now ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ”ฅ they managed to squeeze out 3 points from this game, even with their 'injured' squad lol it's like they're saying "hey, we may not have the strongest team, but we've got heart and we can still kick some butt". also gotta give props to O'Neill for going out on a high note ๐Ÿ™ his dedication is what makes Celtic tick, maybe next season he'll be back in charge ๐Ÿ˜
