ChatGPT shopping research builds you a buyer’s guide using AI

OpenAI's Latest Gadget to Aid Shoppers: A Personalized Shopping Assistant

Just in time for the holiday shopping season, OpenAI has rolled out a new feature called "Shopping Research" within its popular AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT. This innovative tool is designed to make holiday shopping easier by offering personalized product recommendations and allowing users to refine their choices based on various preferences.

To use the Shopping Research feature, users simply need to ask ChatGPT for a specific question about a product or category, such as "best TVs in bright lighting." In response, ChatGPT will provide an initial list of products with links to retailers' websites. The platform then offers users the opportunity to filter their choices by selecting preferences related to price, intended use, and desired features.

This feature is not limited to free users; it's also available on paid plans for mobile and web users. What sets this apart from other shopping assistants is that ChatGPT allows direct purchasing inside its interface with participating merchants through a feature called Instant Checkout.

However, there are some caveats to this new feature. As OpenAI notes in the blog post announcing the feature, "Shopping Research might make mistakes about product details like price and availability." To ensure accuracy, users are advised to verify information on merchant websites.

The AI-powered shopping features from OpenAI aren't unique. Google recently released its own set of shopping tools in AI Mode, while Perplexity's Comet browser uses an AI agent to shop on behalf of users – much to Amazon's dismay.

OpenAI has built the Shopping Research feature on a refined version of GPT-5 mini specifically designed for shopping tasks. This AI engine incorporates "up-to-date information" from quality sources online and can consider previous conversations with ChatGPT and user preferences stored in their "memory."

Pro users, meanwhile, will receive proactively recommended products packaged into "buyer's guides." These personalized recommendations are based on the user's past chat logs with Pulse.

Overall, OpenAI's latest Shopping Research feature offers a promising solution for those seeking to streamline their holiday shopping experience.

🤔 I'm loving this new feature from OpenAI - it's like having a personal shopper in your pocket! 💻 I've tried it out and gotta say, the instant checkout thing is so convenient 🛍️. But, I do think they need to work on accuracy issues... I asked for a TV with good sound quality and got a bunch of options that were way over budget 😬. Guess you'll have to fact-check those recommendations before making a purchase 👍. Still, it's a great start, and I'm excited to see where this feature takes shopping online 📈.

I'm loving this new feature from OpenAI! 🤩 The idea of having a personal shopping assistant like ChatGPT is so genius 🤓. I mean, who doesn't want to find the perfect gift for a loved one without having to scour through tons of options? It's like having your own little virtual shopping buddy 💕.

But yeah, there are some caveats to consider... like when it makes mistakes about product details 😬. That's just part of the learning curve with AI tech, right? Still, I think OpenAI has nailed this feature and it's going to make a huge difference for holiday shoppers 🎁. And let's be real, who doesn't love Instant Checkout? 💸

omg this is so cool!! i need one of these personal shopping assistants ASAP! 💡🛍️ it would make christmas shopping so much easier and less stressful 🎅️ i love that you can filter your options by price, use, and features 📊👍 and the fact that you can buy directly from the chatbot is genius 💸🛍️ my only concern is accuracy but i guess that's just part of the deal 🤔📝 anyway can't wait to try this out on my fam members 👪💕

💡 So I was thinking about how crazy it is that we need an AI-powered shopping assistant just to make buying stuff easier 🤯 Like what even is the world coming to? We used to have to do all our research ourselves, read reviews, check prices... now we can just ask a chatbot and voilà! 👍

I'm also kinda curious about how this is gonna affect Amazon, you know, since they're always trying to be the best 😂. But seriously though, it's interesting that OpenAI is using GPT-5 mini for this feature - I've heard great things about that AI engine.

What do you guys think? Are we ready for an AI-powered shopping assistant in our lives? 🤔

ugh i'm so done with all these AI assistants tryna control my entire shopping experience lol like can't i just browse around and find something on my own? 🤣 but seriously though, the fact that they're incorporating user preferences into the chatbot is kinda cool...idk if it's gonna make a huge difference but hey at least its an option right? 💸 and yeah google and amazon already have their own shopping tools so this isn't like anything new but still, OpenAI's got some solid tech behind this. GPT-5 mini is like the ultimate shopping AI 🤖🛍️

omg u think this is gonna be helpful lol i mean who has time 2 research all these products 4 everythin? but at the same time i dont wanna have 2 rely on chatbots 2 much cuz what if theyre wrong?? its good that its available on paid plans tho, dont know if ill try it though 🤔 what r u gonna do 4 ur holiday shopping?

I'm totally against this new thing OpenAI is trying to do... I mean, who needs some AI telling you what to buy?! 🤖 It's like they're trying to control our consumer habits or something. And don't even get me started on the Instant Checkout feature... it's just an excuse for merchants to make more money off us. Mark my words, this is just a way to normalize shopping online and turn us all into mindless drones. And what about the accuracy issues? Like, if I ask ChatGPT about a product that's out of stock, it'll just show me the same old links... no thanks! I'd rather do my research myself and make an informed decision. This whole thing feels like a gimmick to me... 🚫

omg can u believe they're making ChatGPT do our shopping for us? i mean its kinda cool that it can suggest products based on what we want but idk about the mistakes part... maybe we should just double check prices and stuff before buying lol. also isnt this just like a fancy version of google's assistant? anyway, as a student im just excited cuz now we can probably use it to do our project research without getting tired of searching online all day! 🤩💻

Dude I just got word about this new AI-powered shopping thingy and I'm like "omg how am I gonna shop with so much info at my fingertips?!" 🤣💻 But seriously, it's kinda cool that OpenAI is trying to make shopping easier for us mortals. I mean, who doesn't love a good personalized recommendation? It's like having a personal shopping assistant... minus the part where they judge your taste in clothes 😂. And with Instant Checkout? Forget about it, you can just buy stuff right from within ChatGPT! The only downside is that OpenAI says their AI might mess up sometimes, but I'm sure we'll all be too busy trying on virtual outfits to care 🎀👗

I think this is gonna be a game changer for us shopaholics 🛍️! I mean, who doesn't want to get the perfect gift without having to browse through pages and pages of products? This chatbot thingy sounds like it's got all the answers right at our fingertips 💡. And with the Instant Checkout feature, we can even buy stuff directly from the chat interface 🛒. But I'm a bit worried about accuracy, what if they get some details wrong? Like, what if my fave TV doesn't have bright lighting like the one they say it does? 🤔. I hope OpenAI's got that covered. I'm definitely gonna give this a try and see how it goes! 👍

OMG y'all 5G is finally becoming a norm 📱👍 I mean, can u imagine using this thing in-store? Just askin' chatGPT for recs and BAM! products pop up on ur phone 🤑. But seriously, how much do they make from this Instant Checkout feature tho 💸? Also, I'm low-key impressed that OpenAI is finally gettin' its act together with AI features. Perplexity's Comet browser was last year lol 😂. This shopping research thing better be accurate or else 👀💔

I'm loving this new move by OpenAI 🤩. Having a personal shopping assistant like ChatGPT's Shopping Research is exactly what we need during the holidays! It makes so much sense that it'd be integrated with Instant Checkout - no more back and forth between websites, just one tap to buy. And I gotta say, I'm intrigued by how this AI engine gathers info from quality sources online 📊. Of course, accuracy is key, so let's hope users don't get misled about prices or availability. But overall, I think this feature is a game-changer for shopping - less stress, more time to enjoy the holiday season! 😊

ugh, another AI thing... 🤖 think they're gonna make shopping way more convenient but really just making it easier for online malls to sell us crap we don't need 😂. i mean, what's the point of having a personal shopping assistant if it's just gonna give me a bunch of overpriced options? 🤑 and lol at instant checkout... like that's not already available on amazon lol... anyway, gotta say though, this thing is kinda cool if you're into that sorta thing... 💻

OMG 🤯 I'm loving this new feature from OpenAI! It's like having a personal shopaholic assistant 😂 I mean, who doesn't want help finding the perfect gift or product? The fact that it can make recommendations based on your preferences and past conversations is just genius 💡. And the Instant Checkout feature is a total game-changer - no more back-and-forth with customer support! 🙄 Only thing I'm worried about is accuracy, but if OpenAI's got this down, it'll be a total win for holiday shoppers 🎅. Also, I think it's cool that they're using the GPT-5 mini for shopping tasks - it shows how AI can be used to make everyday life easier 😊

This is gonna be so helpful for me when I'm trying to find gifts for my fam! 😊 Like, I just search for "best laptops" and ChatGPT gives me a list of options with links to buy, no more scrolling through websites all day. And the fact that it allows direct checkout? 🛍️ That's a total game changer! But I do hope they're gonna update their info regularly so we don't get any outdated prices or availability... that'd be super annoying. Also, can't wait to see what kind of "buyer's guides" pro users get! 💡 Might make shopping way easier for me this holiday season 🎄

The world is becoming more like a big bookstore 📚💻 - where you can browse and buy anything from just about anywhere! 🛍️😊 The AI-powered shopping assistant could be a game-changer for people who want to make the most of their time this holiday season, and it's exciting to think about all the possibilities that technology like this will bring in the future...but as with anything, you have to take everything with a grain of salt - after all, "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence" 🙏💡

I think its cool that OpenAI is helping make shopping easier this holiday season 🎄🛍️. I mean, who doesn't want some help finding the perfect gift or deal? The idea of getting personalized recommendations based on your preferences sounds like a total game changer 👍. And the fact that you can filter by price and features is so helpful.

But, at the same time, I'm a bit skeptical about how accurate those initial product lists are going to be 🤔. I mean, we've seen this before with other shopping tools – mistakes happen! Still, its great that OpenAI is working hard to improve accuracy through their refined GPT-5 mini.

I'm also curious to see how users will use the Instant Checkout feature – is it convenient enough? Will people be able to get their gifts quickly and easily? Those are some questions I'd love to explore more.

🤔 I'm loving this new Shopping Research feature from OpenAI! The fact that it can offer personal product recs and let you refine your choices is literally going to save me so much time during the holidays 🎁. And the Instant Checkout feature? Game-changer for online shopping. Although, gotta be careful with those potential mistakes about price & availability 🤦‍♀️. But overall, I think this is a huge win for users and makes holiday shopping way more efficient 💻🛍️

I'm not sure if I love this new feature from OpenAI 🤔... I mean, it sounds super helpful and all, but what if ChatGPT's recommendations are too tailored? Don't we need some human touch in our shopping experiences? 🛍️ On the other hand, who wouldn't want to have their own personal shopping assistant that knows them so well? 💻 But at the same time, I'm like "wait, how accurate is this thing going to be?" - I mean, there are already mistakes with prices and stuff. And what about when it recommends something we don't really need or want? 🤷‍♂️ Maybe it's a good idea to have some kind of " veto" option... or not? 🤯
