Chelsea thrash Charlton to get Liam Rosenior era off to winning start

Chelsea's first FA Cup win under new head coach Liam Rosenior was sealed with a convincing 5-1 victory over struggling Charlton Athletic, but the real story behind the scenes is far more complex.

As Rosenior celebrated his side's dominance, he faced another test of resistance from the travelling fans. The discontent among Chelsea supporters towards the ownership group, Clearlake Capital, seems to be growing by the day. Despite Rosenior's assertion that if his fans are happy with him, it means he's doing a good job, the reality on the pitch suggests otherwise.

Chelsea controlled the game from start to finish, and their young Brazilian winger Estevão had a sparkling cameo, earning a penalty which led to Enzo Fernández scoring in stoppage time. However, Charlton showed signs of life when they halved the deficit through Miles Leaburn's goal in the 57th minute.

The 41-year-old Rosenior acknowledged that Chelsea need to improve defensively, particularly with regards to conceding soft goals. "We need to get better at the basics," he said. Despite his side's convincing win, Rosenior will be aware of the lingering resentment towards Clearlake Capital, who have been at the center of controversy since they took control of the club in 2022.

Rosenior signed a six-and-a-half-year deal last week, but his appointment has been shrouded in mystery. The manner of his appointment was unusual, given that he was poached from smaller club Strasbourg while Chelsea were still reeling from Enzo Maresca's messy departure. Rosenior has had to hit back at suggestions that he is a puppet for the ownership group.

The future remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: Chelsea fans are eager to see their side succeed on the pitch. Can Rosenior and his team build momentum and silence the dissenting voices in the fanbase? Only time will tell.

Man, it's like Chelsea's got this weird vibe going on right now 🤔. They're doing okay on the pitch, but that ownership group is like a black cloud over everyone's head ⛅️. Rosenior's trying to prove himself, but it's hard when there's all this tension in the air. And let's be real, that whole appointment process was pretty shady 🤑. I mean, I get why fans are skeptical – they want to know what's really going on behind the scenes.

And don't even get me started on Clearlake Capital... it feels like they're sucking the life out of this club 💀. The fans are right to be upset, you feel? It's not just about Rosenior or the team – it's about the ownership group's priorities and whether they really care about the fans. I'm rooting for Rosenior and all, but can he really silence the voices of discontent when there's so much mistrust? Only time will tell... 🕰️

🤔 I've got a feeling that Rosenior's win might be a good start for him, but it's not gonna solve all the problems with the fans and Clearlake Capital 💸👀 Chelsea's biggest issue is still their inconsistent form in big games - they can't seem to finish off opponents when it matters most 🤦‍♂️ I heard Rosenior's been trying to implement some new strategies, but you need more than just a new coach to fix the club's issues 😬

I'm still trying to figure out how Rosenior's appointment went down 🤔. It sounds like he was plucked from a smaller club, which is pretty unusual for a head coach at Chelsea. And yeah, their performance against Charlton was solid, but you can't help but wonder what's really going on behind the scenes 👀. The fans' discontent with Clearlake Capital seems legit, and it's not like they're being unreasonable about it. I'm curious to see how Rosenior addresses these concerns, but it's all a bit of a mystery at this point 🤷‍♂️. One thing's for sure: Chelsea needs to get their act together if they want to build some momentum and silence the doubters 🔥.

I'm not buying that everything's gonna be okay just 'cause they won a game 🤔. I mean, 5-1 is sweet, but it's also a bit concerning they're scoring that many goals against teams like Charlton who aren't exactly top-tier. Rosenior says they need to "get better at the basics", which sounds good on paper, but how's he gonna do that when there's all this drama going down behind the scenes? 🤷‍♂️ And what's with the ownership group Clearlake Capital just standing back and letting the fans vent their frustrations? It feels like they're not even trying to address the issues. I'm all for a good underdog story, but Chelsea's got some major baggage to deal with if they wanna build momentum 💔

I gotta say, I'm loving this new era of Chelsea under Liam Rosenior 💪🏽! That 5-1 win was a masterclass, but at the same time, it's clear they still have some work to do defensively 🤔. I mean, conceding soft goals is not what you want, especially when your team's playing that well. The fans are hungry for success, and Rosenior's got his work cut out for him 🔥. But hey, 6.5 years might give him enough time to iron out the wrinkles and get the squad clicking 💼. Only a matter of time before they start silencing those dissenting voices in the stands 👍

omg u think its weird wen a new coach comes in & everyone's all like "he's gonna do this" or "he's definitely gonna get fired lol". i mean, liam rosenior seems cool & all, but can he actually deliver the goods? like, charlton was literally struggling & chelsea just smashed them 5-1 lol. thats not bad at all. bbut the thing is, theres this whole other side to it where fans are still salty towards clearlake capital cuz they took over the club in 2022. u feel? its like, they gotta work on that defensive side of things & maybe build some trust with the fans before ppl start cheering 4 them. fingers crossed he can pull it off 🤞

I feel like Rosenior's win over Charlton might be a silver lining for him, you know 🌞 He got to prove himself as a coach despite all the doubters and uncertainty around his appointment 🤔 And let's be real, a 5-1 win isn't bad at all 😅 The fans are just frustrated because they're worried about the ownership group, but I think Rosenior's shown that he can handle the pressure 🙏 Now, it's time to focus on building momentum and silencing those dissenting voices 💪

omg I'm so hyped for chelsea!!! they finally won that fa cup under liam rosener lol i know some fans might be salty about clearlake capital tho idk what's going on but let's just focus on our blues winning rn 💛🏆 estevão is straight fire btw can't wait to see him in action more often 🎯💨

You know what's wild... I just watched a documentary about those crazy bees in Australia that can fly at like 30 miles per hour! 🐝🤯 They're so cool, but also kinda scary? Like, have you ever seen a bee up close before? 😲 I swear, they're like little tiny helicopters or something. Anyway, back to Chelsea... I'm guessing their fans are just feeling a bit frustrated because they haven't won anything in ages? 🤔 Do you think Clearlake Capital is really that bad for the club? 🤑

🤔 I mean, it's great that Rosenior got the win, but let's be real, the bigger question is how long can they keep placating everyone with just one big win? The fans are clearly unhappy and it's gonna take more than just a 5-1 thrashing to quiet them down. They need to start seeing some actual progress on and off the pitch 📈💪

omg i wonder how long it'll take for liam rosenior's team to get that 1st win under him without anyone bringing up clearlake capital lol defo need to see some progress on defence, those soft goals are a major red flag 😳 what's with the secrecy around his appointment tho? did he really just "poach" himself from strasbourg 🤣 and btw estevão is a talent 💡 can't wait to see how things play out in the next few weeks 🤞
