A 17-year-old boy was shot in the arm and leg early Monday morning after a home invasion attempt in Roseland on Chicago's South Side. The homeowner, who had a valid firearm owner identification card and concealed carry license, claimed self-defense after discovering two males, one of whom showed a gun, inside his car.
According to police reports, the 58-year-old man was awoken by a car alarm at approximately 3:40 a.m. in the 9400 block of South Indiana Avenue. Upon exiting his home, he found two individuals - a 17-year-old boy and another male - rummaging through his vehicle with the driver-side window shattered.
One of the intruders allegedly produced a firearm, prompting the homeowner to open fire, striking the teenager in the right forearm and left knee. The injured boy was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he is listed in fair condition.
The other alleged burglar fled east on foot and managed to escape by getting into a gray minivan. Area 2 detectives are currently investigating the incident.

his grades are probably gonna be affected now tho, and what if hes gotta deal w/ this all semester? poor dude
!! i cant even imagine being in his shoes, like literally literally 
. i'm so glad he has that concealed carry license tho, it's like meant to be or something 
. i mean, you can't just let people break into your car and be all "oh noes" 
. the homeowner did what he had to do to protect himself and his property, and if that means shooting someone, so be it 
. i'm not saying its ideal or anything, but sometimes you gotta take a stand

I mean, what even is the point of breaking into some dude's car? Can't they see that's not where the valuables are kept anymore 
Anyway, my main concern is that 17-year-old kid is going to be all messed up now 
One minute he's rummaging through a car, the next he's getting shot by someone who was trying to protect themselves... it's just so unpredictable

I mean, I'm all for protecting yourself and your property, but this is just crazy! 
this is just heartbreaking thinking about that poor teenager who got shot during what sounds like an attempted break-in... I think it's crazy how our homes can sometimes turn into war zones, especially in urban areas
