Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner fumes over nightmare potential fixture pile-up - 'It's irresponsible'

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has expressed his frustration over the potential fixture pile-up in December, saying it would be "irresponsible" for his team to play two games in 54 hours. The team's Carabao Cup quarter-final against Arsenal is scheduled for December 16, which would put them up against Manchester City on December 14 and KuPS in the Conference League on December 18.

Glasner believes that playing multiple matches in such a short period would be detrimental to his players' welfare. "I think it would be irresponsible for the players," he said. "And everybody has a responsibility for the players. And we have to look after their welfare."

The manager also questioned why FIFA, UEFA, the Premier League, and the EFL did not discuss this issue beforehand. "It's not so surprising that this can happen," he added. "And now they're finding something where you can't find a solution? Get it organised and sorted before."

Glasner suggested an alternative date for the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Arsenal, which could be played on Christmas Eve or January 1, depending on their schedule.

In related news, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his concerns over fixture congestion. "I don't think that is fair (if the match is rescheduled) because we have other competitions as well," he said. "We knew at the start of the season the competitions that each club is playing in, so on balance we have to try to accommodate the best possible way for everybody."

Arteta emphasized the importance of prioritizing players' welfare and supporters' interests when making decisions about fixtures.

The Professional Footballers' Association has also weighed in on the issue. "Across football there are too many competitions trying to fit too many games into not enough days," they stated. "This isn’t a theoretical debate about player welfare. It’s an unavoidable, practical fact that the calendar doesn't work."

It seems unlikely that the fixture congestion will be resolved without further discussion and planning between the relevant governing bodies.

omg this fixture pile-up is getting out of control πŸ€―πŸ€ u can just imagine how tired & stressed out those players r going to b with 2 games in 54 hours lol what's next, playing a league match on the same day as their wedding πŸ˜‚ but seriously, its all about prioritizing player welfare & supporters interests. i think cristian runaru @cristiannoble should start talking about this more often bc he was part of that protest in london last yr πŸ™Œ

I feel bad for Oliver Glasner, I mean, can you blame him? 54 hours is a long time to be running around on the pitch! πŸˆπŸ˜“ The players need some R&R, you know? And it's not just about them, it's about everyone involved in the game - the fans, the staff... everyone's gotta take care of each other. I think it's great that Arteta and the PFA are speaking up too, we need to make sure our teams are taking care of their players. Maybe they can reschedule those games for Christmas or New Year's? That way, everyone can relax and enjoy the holiday season πŸŽ„πŸŒŸ

I gotta say, playing teams like Arsenal & Manchester City in such short time frames is crazy! 🀯 My grandkids play soccer, and they get tired after just one match, let alone two! πŸ€ It's all about player safety, you know? The players need rest & recovery time to avoid injuries. I think the governing bodies should sit down together, work out a new schedule that doesn't put teams through this stress 😩. Christmas Eve or New Year's Day would be nice dates for the Carabao Cup match... it's better than having them play back-to-back in December! πŸŽ„

Ugh, can you believe these scheduling whizzes? πŸ™„ Like, come on guys! You're gonna drop this bombshell in December, of all months? It's like you just wanted to see players lose sleep over their fixtures. 54 hours is not a lot of time, especially for a team that's already playing non-stop. I get it, the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Arsenal is important, but at what cost to player welfare? πŸ€• At least Oliver Glasner spoke up about this... Arteta's just going along with it, which doesn't sit well with me either. How hard can it be to reschedule a match for Christmas Eve or something? The PFA should really take a closer look at the scheduling calendar because, yeah, it does seem like it's all about squeezing in as many games as possible without considering the human aspect of the sport.

I feel for Oliver Glasner and his team πŸ€•. Two games in 54 hours? That's just crazy talk! Players need time to rest, recover, and refocus. It's not just about them, but also their families and loved ones who rely on them being healthy and happy πŸ’•. FIFA, UEFA, the Premier League, and EFL should've had this conversation sooner ⏰. Why make a big deal now? Maybe they can reschedule those games for Christmas or New Year's? That would be a lot more reasonable πŸŽ„πŸ‘

come on guys, let's stop whining about the fixtures πŸ™„ if we want to play more games in the winter, we should be playing in a winter wonderland stadium with snow and everything ❄️ it'll add to the atmosphere, not detract from it. and oliver glasner's complaining is a bit rich coming from a manager who just got promoted and now wants to make a big show about player welfare πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ we need more games, not less, and if we can't handle the schedule, then maybe we shouldn't be playing in the carabao cup. and arteta's all worried about his team having other competitions on? that's what makes it football, mate! let's just play as many games as we can and see who comes out on top πŸ’ͺ

🀯 I mean, can you blame Oliver Glasner for being frustrated? Playing two games in 54 hours is just crazy talk! 🚫 It's not like they're asking for a break or anything, it's just a bunch of back-to-back matches that are going to wear out the players. And what's up with FIFA and UEFA not discussing this beforehand? It's like they were waiting for someone to point it out πŸ˜’. I think Christmas Eve would be a perfect rescheduled date for the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Arsenal - it's not like it's a holiday or anything πŸŽ„. The players' welfare should always come first, no debate about that! πŸ‘

Ugh, can't believe these ppl think 54 hours is not too much time to play two matches... πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Like, players need rest, not just a quick coffee break before running around on the pitch again. And who's really looking out for their welfare? Just saying πŸ™„

😩 this whole thing is just so unfair to the players, you know? like, they're already playing a ton of games throughout the season and then we expect them to squeeze in two more matches in 54 hours? that's just crazy talk! ⚽️

i think the governing bodies need to get their act together, like, seriously. can't we just have a big meeting and figure out how to spread these games out so it doesn't feel like they're trying to kill us? 🀯 i mean, arteta makes some good points too, about prioritizing players' welfare and all that... but come on, guys! we need a solution to this problem ASAP! πŸ’ͺ

I'm so done with this fixture pile-up 🀯! Like, can we just figure out a way to spread out the games a bit? 54 hours is insane ⏰! I get it, football is a busy sport, but do we really need to be playing two games in that short time frame? It's gonna be super tough on the players' bodies πŸ€•. And what's with all these governing bodies not talking to each other beforehand? πŸ€” It's like they're just winging it and hoping for a miracle ✨. We need some serious planning and coordination here βš™οΈ! Maybe Christmas Eve or New Year's Day would be a better time for the Carabao Cup quarter-final? That way everyone can breathe a bit easier 😌. It's all about player welfare and supporter interests, let's get it sorted! 🀝

Ugh man I feel for Oliver Glasner πŸ€• his team is gonna get smashed from lack of rest... FIFA & UEFA should have communicated better, like what's up with these crazy schedules? πŸ™„ it's not just about players' welfare but also fans who can't even make plans because of all the games πŸ“…πŸ‘€ and yeah PFA got it right, too many comps in a short period 🀯 need to sort this out ASAP πŸ’ͺ

I feel for Oliver Glasner and Mikel Arteta - it's crazy to have to deal with such tight scheduling πŸ€―πŸ†. The players' welfare has got to come first, you know? πŸ™ They're already putting in so much effort on the pitch, it's not fair to ask them to play back-to-back matches without any proper break ❀️. It's like FIFA and the Premier League didn't think about how this would affect everyone πŸ˜•... maybe they should've had a chat with each other before making these plans πŸ“…. Let's hope someone can sort out a solution soon, so we don't have to deal with all this fixture madness 😩.

man... fixture pile-up is like, totally draining the life outta these players πŸ€•πŸ’” they're human beings, not machines, right? we gotta put their well-being above all else... it's crazy that nobody's thinking about this before the season starts πŸ™„ like, have they ever stopped to think about what's best for the players? 😴 and now we're paying the price with injuries and burnout... it's a mess 🀯

I'm so done with these scheduling conflicts 😩. Like, can't they just sort it out before it's crunch time? It's not like the players are made of glass or anything πŸ’”. I mean, if Manchester City is playing KuPS in Finland on Dec 18, and Crystal Palace has a Carabao Cup match against Arsenal 54 hours later... what's the point of even having a manager who's supposed to know what they're doing? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ The players' welfare should be the top priority, not some dodgy scheduling decision that's gonna mess with their entire season. I'm all for rescheduling matches or finding alternative dates, but can we just get it together already? 😑

Ugh I feel for Oliver Glasner πŸ€•... 54 hours is insane ⏰... teams and players deserve so much better than being rushed around like this πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ. Can't they just work out a schedule that doesn't put everyone at risk? 😩 It's not just about the players, but also about the fans who are already struggling with travel times and ticket prices ⚽️.

I'm surprised more people aren't speaking up about this issue πŸ€”... it's not like it's rocket science to figure out a way to balance all these competitions πŸ€“. FIFA, UEFA, the Premier League, and the EFL need to get their act together and prioritize player welfare and fan experience ⏰... it's just common sense 😊.

I'm not sure why Christmas Eve or January 1 are being thrown around as possible reschedule dates πŸŽ„... what about the rest of us who want to enjoy our holidays without worrying about football? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Anyway, I hope they can figure out a solution that works for everyone βš“οΈ. This is just too much stress πŸ’₯

I'm so done with these back-to-back match schedules! πŸ€―πŸ† As a parent, I know how exhausting it is to have multiple kids' activities in one day. My youngest had soccer practice till 5 pm last week and then we had dinner prep before bedtime. The thought of players having to travel and play games every other day is just crazy! 😩 And don't even get me started on the parents - coaches, referees... everyone's so busy it's like a circus. πŸŽͺ Can't they just figure out a way to space things out a bit? Maybe they could reschedule some of these matches or look into better player rotation policies. It's not just about player welfare, but also about the fans who have to shell out money for tickets and travel... it's all getting a bit too much πŸ€‘

I'm utterly bewildered by the lack of foresight shown by these governing bodies πŸ€”. It's astonishing that they're only now realizing the insidious effects of fixture congestion, especially with Christmas and New Year's approaching ⏰. The players' welfare is paramount, and yet it seems like a collective afterthought to these organizations. I mean, couldn't they have seen this coming? πŸ˜’ The Professional Footballers' Association's assertion that it's not just a theoretical debate rings true - this is a matter of practicality and common sense πŸ™„. It's only by engaging in meaningful discussions and planning ahead can we hope to mitigate the damage caused by these back-to-back fixtures. Perhaps a more flexible scheduling system, with an emphasis on player well-being and fair competition, would be a good starting point πŸ”€?
