Crystal Palace leave Mateta out of squad for Forest trip as they weigh up Milan deal

Crystal Palace Boss Keeps Striker Mateta Out of Squad for Forest Game Amid Milan Tie-Up Talks

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has revealed that Jean-Philippe Mateta will not be in the squad for Sunday's Premier League match against Nottingham Forest due to his "current form and mental state." The 28-year-old striker, who is currently at the center of a transfer saga with Italian club AC Milan, will miss the game as a result.

Palace are believed to be considering an offer from Milan, which could reach up to £35m for Mateta. However, Milan's deal includes a three-and-a-half-year contract, which would tie down Mateta until 2027. The striker has expressed his desire to join Milan in order to further his ambitions of playing in the World Cup.

Glasner explained that Mateta will not be traveling with Palace to Forest, citing concerns about his mental state and focus on the pitch. "He's just not in the right place to play," Glasner said. "If somebody has some private issues that he can't really focus on football, then it makes no sense to play him because then he can't help the team or perform on the top level."

The decision to leave Mateta out of the squad may be related to Palace's concerns about selling a player to a rival Premier League club. Milan have also been linked with interest in other Palace players, including Evann Guessand, who has joined the club on loan from Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Palace are still in talks over the transfer of Jørgen Strand Larsen from Wolves for £45m, plus £5m in add-ons. However, concerns about the record-breaking fee may have stalled the deal.

The situation with Mateta is likely to be resolved soon, but Palace's window of opportunity may be rapidly closing as Milan continue to push for a deal. The Italian club are understood to be willing to meet Palace's asking price of £40m for Mateta, and it remains to be seen whether the Premier League outfit will accept the offer.

Palace boss Glasner has vowed to complete signings before the January deadline, but the transfer market is proving to be increasingly complex and unpredictable. As one deal hangs in the balance, another opportunity may soon arise - but only if Palace can find a solution to the Mateta conundrum.

I don't get why Palace is being so slow with this Mateta business 😒. They know he's got eyes on AC Milan and that's gonna make him wanna leave anyway. It's not like they're losing out on a ton of cash, £35m or whatever... but I guess the thing is, it's about keeping your core team intact for next season. But honestly, if Mateta is just not feeling himself mentally, then maybe he shouldn't be playing in such high-pressure situations anyway 🤔. The thought of him slumping under pressure and letting his game slide is a bit too much to handle... plus the fact that Milan are willing to meet Palace's asking price is making it even harder for them to keep him 💸

🤔 I'm kinda sad to see Jean-Philippe Mateta being left out of the squad, you know? He's been with Crystal Palace for years and has always shown so much potential on the pitch 😔. But at the same time, I get what Oliver Glasner is saying - if someone's mental state is a bit off, it's not fair to them or the team to keep forcing them to perform 🤕.

It's also kinda annoying that AC Milan is pushing hard for him, especially with the £35m offer and all... 😒. I mean, I love watching good football as much as the next guy, but do they have to be so aggressive about it? Can't they just let Mateta make his own decision for once? 🤷‍♂️.

And what's up with this transfer saga in general? It feels like everyone's trying to pull a fast one on each other, and nobody's really coming out on top 🤑. Palace needs to find a solution to the Mateta thing ASAP, but I'm not holding my breath 😴.

I'm thinking the club should be more careful with their transfers, 'cause when you're leaving out a player like Mateta due to his mental state, it's a pretty big decision 🤔. I get where they're coming from, but at the same time, you don't want to lose someone who could make a huge impact on the pitch either. It's like, what's the point of having all that money if you can't use it to your advantage? 💸 And now with Milan pushing for him, I'm not sure how long Palace will be able to hold out 😬. Maybe they should focus on other players who are already part of the squad?

😬 I feel bad for Jean-Philippe Mateta, he's been with Crystal Palace for ages and it sounds like they're really struggling to get him out of there. The £35m offer from AC Milan is huge, but I'm not surprised Palace are hesitant to sell - he does seem to be a fan favorite! 🤗 What do you guys think? Should Mateta stay or go? He's got a lot riding on the World Cup, and if he can get out of Palace, it could be a great opportunity for him... but will Milan pay what they're offering? 💸

I'm telling you, this whole thing with Mateta is fishy 🐟. First of all, £35m for him? That's a lot of dosh! And what's with Milan tying him down until 2027? That's like, a lifetime contract 😒. What if Palace can't even sell him back to them after that time? It's like they're trying to lock him in or something 🚪.

And what about the mental state thing? I mean, I've seen players deal with pressure and still perform well. Is this just an excuse to get rid of a player who's not fitting into their plans? 🤔. And Evann Guessand, joining on loan from Aston Villa? That sounds like they're trying to weaken Palace's team before selling Mateta 💥.

I'm not buying all this, mate 😂. I think there's more to it than just a transfer saga. There's some bigger picture stuff going on here, and we'll see what really happens in the end 🤷‍♂️.

I'm not sure if I agree with this decision by Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner 🤔. On one hand, it's great that he's prioritizing his player's mental state and focus on the pitch ⚽️. But on the other hand, leaving Mateta out of the squad for a crucial match against Nottingham Forest seems like a big opportunity cost ⏰. I think it would have been better if they had found a way to work with him despite his transfer saga. Now, Palace are missing out on some valuable experience and momentum from Mateta, which could be hard to replace 🔇. It's also got me thinking - is £35m really worth giving up Mateta for? I'm not sure if it is 💸...

I feel for this guy, Mateta... 🤔 it's like he's stuck between chasing his dreams and being true to himself. You know, it's easy to get caught up in the hype of wanting to play for a big club, but at what cost? 💸 His mental state is more important than any contract or transfer fee. It's a tough lesson to learn, but sometimes you gotta prioritize your own well-being before anyone else's expectations. ⏰ Let's hope he finds a way to balance his ambitions with his inner peace... 👏

I'm thinking Crystal Palace should chill out about getting £35m for Mateta, it's not like they're gonna regret selling him anytime soon lol 😅. They're worried he'll leave mid-season or something, but I think Mateta just needs some time to figure his head out and then he'll be back on track. It's weird Palace are being so uptight about this, considering how much they're getting offered. Milan seems like a great opportunity for him, who knows maybe we'll see Mateta in the World Cup with Italy 🤞.

🤔 I think Palace are worried about losing Mateta to Milan because he's been really key for them lately. They don't want him to go and start scoring goals for their rivals 🏴👊 But, at the same time, they need to get rid of players who aren't performing well like Guessand... 🤷‍♂️

Ugh I hate it when clubs hold out players for ridiculous amounts of cash 😡. Like what's £35m between mates? It's not like Mateta is gonna make or break the team, just some random striker who's got his head in the clouds 🤯. Palace should just give him a decent offer and let him go, it's not worth all this drama 💸. And what's with Milan's contract thingy? 3.5 years? What even is that? 🙄

I don’t usually comment but... I feel bad for Mateta, he seems like a great player 😔. Leaving him out of the squad might not be the best decision for Crystal Palace, especially with Milan making such a big offer 💸. It's like they're giving up on him before even trying to make it work. The transfer market can be crazy, but you'd think they'd want to at least try to keep their star player 🤷‍♂️. What if he was just having a rough patch? Would they really write him off like that? 😕

so i feel bad for mateta 🤕 he's been with palace for ages and has always performed well but now he's struggling to focus on the game probably because of all the transfer talks going on in his head 📲 it's tough when you're trying to decide whether to stay or go, especially if there's a big club like milan interested in him 💸 i hope he can get his mind back on the pitch soon and help palace win that forest match 🏆

omg i feel bad for mateta 🤕 he's been open about wanting to join milan and now it sounds like palace is being super cautious about letting him go 💔 but at the same time,glasner's right - if mateta's not focused on the pitch then he can't help the team either 🏆 i hope they figure something out soon tho 👍

I'm not surprised that Palace are holding out for £40m, they shouldn't sell someone of Mateta's quality at a discount 💸. I mean, what's the rush, Milan could wait, they're not exactly gonna be relegated or anything 😂. It's all about getting the right price and making sure you don't regret selling in the future. If Palace can hold out, they might just get their hands on some extra cash to invest elsewhere in the squad 🤑.

But what's going on with Evann Guessand, I thought he was part of the loan agreement? Is Palace trying to negotiate a permanent deal without telling him? That sounds shady 😏. Either way, it's all about the money and who's got the upper hand in these negotiations 💪.

so Crystal Palace is trying to get rid of Mateta 'cause he's not doing well mentally 🤕🏆... according to Glasner, Mateta just needs to focus on his game & stuff 🤔... but Milan's willing to meet £40m offer and tie him down till 2027 ⏰... Palace is worried about selling a player to a rival club tho 💸... also, Guessand is on loan from Villa... and Larsen deal is still pending 👀... if Palace don't sort out Mateta soon, Milan will snatch him up and it'll be too late 🚨... stats show that teams with high squad turnover struggle in the playoffs 📊 (30% of playoff teams had >50% squad turnover) ⬆️

here's a graph showing the relationship between squad stability & team performance:
```
Squad Stability | Team Performance
--------------|-----------------
High | 85%
Medium | 65%
Low | 45%
```
and, fun fact: did you know that teams with high squad turnover have a higher risk of injuries? 🤕 (23% more injuries) 👍

I'm not sure what's going on with Crystal Palace and their striker Jean-Philippe Mateta 🤔. They're basically selling him to AC Milan for £35m, but there are some issues that need to be sorted out first. I mean, it makes sense that they wouldn't want him playing if he's struggling with mental health stuff - focus on the pitch is super important for any athlete. It's also a bit weird that Milan are trying to tie him down with a three-and-a-half-year contract... seems like they're making things complicated just for the sake of it 🙃.

I'm low-key worried about Jean-Philippe Mateta 🤔 #MatetaMystery. The thought of him struggling with mental state and focus is kinda harsh 💔. I mean, he's got his sights set on the World Cup, and AC Milan is offering a three-and-a-half-year deal that sounds like it could be a dream come true 🌟. But Palace needs to think about their own squad goals ⚽️ #SquadGoalsMatter. Maybe they should consider making some other moves while Mateta is out of the picture? 🤔
