Local foodies rejoice, as D.C.-based bagel chain Call Your Mother is set to bring its signature carb-loaded treats to Philadelphia's Fishtown neighborhood. According to co-owner Andrew Dana, the highly-anticipated shop will make its way to the city this spring or summer, pending permitting.
For those unfamiliar with the brand, Call Your Mother has already made a name for itself in Washington D.C., as well as Maryland, Virginia, and Colorado, thanks to two passionate owners: Dana, who boasts Jewish heritage, and chef-turned-partner Daniela Moreira, an Argentine native. Their bagel offerings – expertly blending elements of both the dense New York-style and smaller Montreal variety – are sure to capture palates.
A nod to Philly staples such as Allen Iverson and Rocky was thrown in during their recent announcement, alongside a shoutout to Dana's hometown, Mount Airy, where his mother resides. No mention, however, was made regarding Moreira's native Argentina.
Call Your Mother promises an array of mouth-watering smears, proteins, and toppings – plus specialty coffee drinks and sandwiches. To round out the offerings, expect their pretzel bagel to be a hit among locals accustomed to indulging in authentic Philly fare.
While the Fishtown location may mark Call Your Mother's first foray into Pennsylvania, it won't be its last – as Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood is slated for another outpost.
