Daddy Issues series two review – Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey parenting comedy is a real beauty

The second series of the British comedy "Daddy Issues" has arrived, and it's a real beauty. The show follows the story of Gemma, a single mother struggling to balance her life with her demanding family, particularly her mother Davina and her father Malcolm.

As expected, Davina is just as dramatic and self-centered as ever, constantly doling out unwanted advice and critiques to Gemma, much to the frustration of her daughter. However, this time around, Gemma has had enough, and their interactions are filled with sarcasm and passive-aggressiveness.

On the other hand, Gemma's father Malcolm is a lovable but dysfunctional character who has recently returned to his friend Derek's dilapidated bedsit after being evicted by Gemma. As he tries to navigate his new role as a grandfather, he becomes a constant source of comedic relief with his witty one-liners and hilarious antics.

What sets the second series apart is its increased depth and complexity. The show tackles themes such as fractured families, young motherhood, and the struggles of single parenthood with sensitivity and nuance. The characters are multidimensional and relatable, making it easy to become invested in their stories.

One of the standout aspects of the show is its writing, which is clever, witty, and often laugh-out-loud funny. The dialogue is razor-sharp, and the characters' banter is always engaging and entertaining.

The supporting cast is also excellent, particularly David Morrissey as Malcolm, who brings a warmth and vulnerability to his character that makes him hard to resist.

Overall, "Daddy Issues" series two is a triumph. It's a comedy with heart, wit, and a healthy dose of sarcasm, making it a must-watch for anyone looking for a hilarious and engaging show about family, love, and life's little quirks.

If you're new to the show, don't worry – this series is designed to be accessible to newcomers. And if you've seen the first series, rest assured that the writers have taken everything they loved about the show and built upon it, creating a more refined and polished comedy experience.

So, what are you waiting for? Join Gemma and her family on their hilarious and heartwarming adventures, and discover why "Daddy Issues" is quickly becoming one of Britain's best comedies.

I'm so glad they're back with another season of this show! I mean, who doesn't love a good dose of sarcasm and eye-rolling from Davina? 🙄 The way the writers have developed Gemma's character in particular is genius – she's no longer just the damsel in distress, but a fully fleshed-out person with her own quirks and flaws. And can we talk about David Morrissey as Malcolm? He's like the ultimate nice guy who always has your back... or not, depending on how you look at it 😂. The supporting cast is top-notch, and I'm loving how they're all so uniquely flawed but lovable in their own ways. I'm hooked! 👍

I'm so down for the 2nd season of Daddy Issues 🤣👍! I love how they've upped the ante on Gemma and Davina's dynamics, it's like, the ultimate mom-daughter conflict 😂💁‍♀️. omg i'm so glad the 2nd series of daddy issues dropped 🤩 i was getting a bit worried that they were gonna tone down the sass between gemma and her mom but nope, it's still as firey as ever! 😂 and david morrissey is absolute perfection as malcolm, he's like the king of awkward dad moments 👑. anyway, i think what sets this series apart is how they tackle real life stuff without being preachy or heavy-handed, it's just so easy to watch and laugh with. 👍

omg yaaas the writing in this show is literally perfection I'm obsessed with how they balance out the humor and heart it's so well done and i love how Gemma's character has grown from just a stressed-out single mom to someone who's really owning her situation 😂👏 the supporting cast is also incredible David Morrissey as Malcolm is everything and more I need more of that lovable but dysfunctional charm in my life 🤣💕

I'm kinda excited about this new season but also a bit skeptical - it sounds like they're tackling some heavy stuff like fractured families and single parenthood, which can be tough to make light of without feeling insensitive. I hope the show finds that sweet spot where it's funny but also respectful 🤔💡

omg i love how the show tackles real issues like single parenthood and fractured families in a way that's both funny and relatable lol 😂👍 the writing is literally genius and the characters are so well-developed, even the ones you'd think would be hard to sympathize with, like malcolm 🤣 i'm totally obsessed with david morrissey as malcolm btw he's so charming and vulnerable 🙌

I'm loving this show so much! It's like they're speaking directly to me with my own family drama 🤣... I mean, who hasn't had a dramatic parent at some point? Davina's just extra, though 😂. And Malcolm's comeback as Gemma's dad is the best thing since sliced bread - his one-liners always have me in stitches 💀.

I think what I love most about this show is how it tackles real issues like single parenthood and fractured families with such humor and heart ❤️. It's not all laughs, though; some of these characters deal with some heavy stuff, but the writers do a great job of balancing the tone.

The writing's top-notch, as always 📝. Those dialogue scenes are just masterclass comedy gold 💥. And David Morrissey, oh man... he brings this lovable grumpiness to Malcolm that's just infectious 😂. If you haven't checked out the show yet, what's taking you so long? Get on it! 👀

OMG u gotta check out the 2nd series of Daddy Issues!! 😂 it's SO good!!! Gemma's mom Davina is still super dramatic lolol but this time Gemma's all "no, not today" and their interactions are soooo funny! 🤣 Meanwhile Malcolm (played by David Morrissey) is literally the best - his one-liners & antics are killin' me every episode! 👍 The show tackles some heavy topics like fractured fams & single parenthood but does it with such sensitivity & nuance. The writing's insane btw, always laugh-out-loud funny & the dialogue's on point 💁‍♀️ I'm not even gonna lie, I binge-watched the whole series in one day lolol don't @ me 😜

OMG 🤣, I'm so glad they finally made Davina more annoying lol 😒, I mean, who doesn't love a good roast session with their drama queen mom? 💁‍♀️ And David Morrissey as Malcolm is literally the best thing since sliced bread 🍞, he's just so lovable and vulnerable at the same time ❤️. The writing is on point, it's like they're speaking directly to your soul 😂. I'm hooked from episode one, can't wait to see what kind of drama Gemma gets herself into next 🤔. One thing's for sure, this show has me DYING 🤣 and I need more of it in my life 💖.

🤔 I'm not sure about this one... The show seems to be getting more attention now that it's a second series. What made the first one so good? Was it just the premise or was there something specific about the writing and acting that resonated with audiences? 📺 Don't get me wrong, I love a good comedy, but isn't this show just rehashing similar themes from other sitcoms? And what's up with Davina being the dramatic one all the time? Is she just a caricature or is there something more to her character development in series two? 🤷‍♀️
