Detroit’s Joe Louis Southern Kitchen to open downtown location - Detroit Metro Times

Detroit's Joe Louis Southern Kitchen to Open Downtown Location, Bringing Homegrown Flavors to Iconic Woodward Avenue.

In a move that promises to revitalize downtown Detroit's dining scene, the popular local chain, Joe Louis Southern Kitchen, is set to open its third location at 1528 Woodward Ave. The new restaurant will be situated in a property owned by Dan Gilbert's Bedrock, making it an ideal spot for the brand to expand its reach.

The restaurant aims to capitalize on the momentum that Detroit has been experiencing, with the new location opening just in time for Detroit Tigers Opening Day. This strategic move is expected to further boost the city's reputation as a vibrant and exciting destination for foodies and sports fans alike.

Joe Louis Southern Kitchen was founded by Johnny Cannon and Joe Louis Barrow II, who have successfully carried on their namesake's legacy of excellence and community spirit. The original location opened in 2021 at 6549 Woodward Ave. in Detroit's New Center area, followed by a second location in Southfield.

The new downtown restaurant is slated to be around 4,000 square feet, seating more than 80 diners. Its menu will feature a range of Southern-style brunch dishes that have made the chain popular among locals and visitors alike.

For Barrow, the decision to open a third location is deeply personal. "Detroit helped shape my father," he said in a statement. "Preserving his name and keeping his legacy alive in the city he loved means the world to me and my family." The new restaurant will serve as a tribute to Joe Louis's values of excellence and community, which have become synonymous with the brand.

Cannon echoed Barrow's sentiments, stating that partnering with Bedrock for this new location "enables us to share Joe Louis' legacy with an even broader audience right in the heart of downtown." The restaurant's proximity to iconic Woodward Avenue is expected to draw visitors from across the city and beyond.

With its focus on homegrown flavors and community spirit, Joe Louis Southern Kitchen is poised to become a staple of Detroit's culinary scene.
