Donnarumma is 'adult enough' to avoid suspension, says Guardiola

Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola has ruled out speaking with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma about accumulating yellow cards, citing the 26-year-old as "adult enough" to understand his need to temper his conduct. The Italian's booking tally has risen to four in just 10 Premier League appearances, prompting concerns that he could become the first goalkeeper to receive a one-match ban for five bookings.

With three of Donnarumma's yellow cards resulting from dissent, including an incident during Saturday's 3-2 win over Leeds, and the other for time-wasting, the City manager acknowledged that his player is approaching the mark. However, Guardiola emphasized that he will not engage in discussions about caution with Donnarumma as a one-to-one conversation, instead choosing to address the issue collectively through team meetings.

The Premier League's rulebook states that goalkeepers who accumulate five cautions within their first 19 league matches are eligible for a one-match ban. While 12 other goalkeepers have achieved this milestone in previous seasons, none did so as quickly as Donnarumma has in just 10 appearances.

Meanwhile, Guardiola expressed optimism over the future of Phil Foden, whose contract expires in summer 2027. The midfielder has made an impressive start to the season, scoring twice against Leeds and contributing to a team effort that saw City secure a 3-2 victory.

Foden's goal tally this season stands at three goals in 11 league appearances, with Guardiola predicting he could surpass his previous high of 19 goals from two seasons ago. The manager highlighted the importance of wingers and attacking midfielders in driving the team's attacking success, as evident during their recent win over Leeds.

However, Foden will be absent for City's upcoming match against Fulham due to a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined since Saturday's game.

๐Ÿค” "The best way out is always through" ๐Ÿ’ช but sometimes, like with Donnarumma and Foden, injuries & yellow cards can get in the way ๐Ÿค•. Hope both of them return ASAP so City can make a strong push for that league title โšฝ๏ธ!

๐Ÿค” I'm thinking... Pep Guardiola makes sense on this one. Gianluigi Donnarumma is young and still figuring things out, but the fact he's only gotten 4 yellows in 10 games is decent. 5 cautions in 19 games sounds like a clear warning, so no need to sit him down after just 1/3 of his league appearances... yet ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. But Phil Foden's injury news is bummer. Hope he recovers quickly! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

omg u wont believe what pep guardiola said about gianluigi donnarumma ๐Ÿคฏ like why is he getting all those yellow cards rn i know city's been doing well but cmon chill out lol ๐Ÿ˜…

anyway, glad to hear phil foden is gonna be back from his hamstring injury soon ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿ’จ and pep is hyping him up to score even more goals than last season would be awesome to see that happen ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”ฅ

aww man dont worry gianluigi lol hes gonna be fine coach pep has his back ๐Ÿ™ the prem league rulebook can be tough but i think he'll manage it just fine ๐Ÿ˜Š and omg phil foden is on fire this season ๐Ÿš€ cant wait to see him score again soon ๐Ÿ’จ hope that hamstring injury heals quick for him btw feel bad for him ๐Ÿค•

idk why goalkeepers get so worked up about yellows lol ๐Ÿคฃ i mean pep guardiola is right though, gianluigi donnarumma should know better by now. but did you guys see that video of lewis hamilton's car crash? crazy! anyway back to football... has anyone seen the new nike air force 1s? they look fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ

man pep gotta make this decision ๐Ÿค” u think dontnarumma is just trying 2 get attention thru bookings? but i feel like he's been alright most of the time, maybe jus a bit too emotional on the pitch ๐Ÿ˜‚ anyway, glad pep is lookin out 4 him... don't wanna see him get benched or suspended ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ meanwhile, phil foden's progress is super exciting! that goal against leeds was insane ๐ŸŽฏ i hope he can stay healthy & keep scoring those goals ๐Ÿ‘

I think Pep Guardiola is right on point with Donnarumma, the kid's gotta learn to control his temper ๐Ÿ”ฅ. Five bookings in 10 games? That's a lot for a keeper! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ But at the same time, I feel bad for the guy, he's still young and making mistakes ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

Foden on the other hand is looking fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ, if he stays fit, we might see him light up the pitch like last season ๐Ÿ”ฎ. Injury woes aside, City's got a bright future ahead of them โœจ.

think pep guardiola is right in this situation ๐Ÿค”... goalkeepers have to behave themselves on the pitch its part of the deal when you wear those gloves u gotta keep ur cool & focus on defendin not just talkin bout tempin ur conduct ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ donnarumma knows what hes doin... & from wat i see of him he looks like a top keeper so no need 2 get worked up about it ๐Ÿ˜Š but still hope he dont end up gettin banned ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I feel like Pep Guardiola is being super cool about dealing with Gianluigi Donnarumma's yellow card issues ๐Ÿค”. I mean, yeah the dude is getting warned for some stuff but not every conversation needs to be a one-on-one chat between coach and player, you know? Just having a team meeting to talk about it seems like a good way to address the issue without making it all awkward ๐Ÿ˜Š. On another note, Phil Foden is looking fire ๐Ÿ’ฅ! He's always been an underrated talent but this season he's really stepping up his game. Hopefully he can get back on the pitch soon for City ๐Ÿคž

awww poor gianluigi... i feel like he's under so much pressure already and now he's getting booked 4 times in just 10 games... ๐Ÿค• it's like, pep's got his back but also he needs to be more careful, you know? ๐Ÿ˜Š and phill foden's injury is a bummer too... ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ i was really looking forward to seeing him back on the pitch. anyway, let's just hope gianluigi can keep his cool and that pep can help him through this tough patch ๐Ÿคž

I'm totally with Pep Guardiola on this one ๐Ÿค”. Donnarumma needs to calm down and stop getting all riled up about stuff ๐Ÿ˜’. It's not like he's the first goalkeeper to get booked or anything, right? And yeah, let's be real, time-wasting is just a fancy word for "I'm tired of playing" ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Foden on the other hand, I think Pep is being way too optimistic about him scoring 19 goals again ๐Ÿšซ. We all know that's never gonna happen, especially if he keeps getting injured like this ๐Ÿค•. And another thing, what's with all the fuss about goalkeepers getting yellow cards? It's just a minor infraction ๐Ÿ™„. Can't we just focus on the actual game instead of analyzing every little move? ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿค” I'm not sure what's more concerning - Gianluigi Donnarumma's rapid accumulation of yellow cards or Pep Guardiola's reluctance to have an open conversation about it ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. Is it a sign that the manager trusts his player to understand the consequences of his actions? Or is he avoiding a potentially uncomfortable conversation? Either way, I think we should be questioning the underlying issues that led Donnarumma to get four yellow cards in just 10 Premier League appearances ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Is it a case of over-enthusiasm or a lack of maturity? We need more than just a one-to-one conversation with Guardiola to address this issue... maybe a deeper reflection on our own actions and how we can grow from them ๐Ÿ’ก

OMG, can't believe Pep Guardiola is keeping an eye on Gianluigi Donnarumma's yellow cards ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ‘€ Like, I get it, but what's next? A kid who's 10 and got a red card for throwing a tantrum in soccer practice? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Anyway, back to Foden... I'm loving how he's stepping up his game! He's so underrated, you know? City needs players like him on the team. And boo, a hamstring injury is no good ๐Ÿ˜” Hope Phil recovers soon and gets to shine in their next match ๐Ÿ’ช

I'm not surprised Pep Guardiola is taking a hands-off approach with Donnarumma regarding the yellow cards thing... I mean, it's a bit of a concern, but he seems confident that the Italian can self-regulate and understand the importance of discipline ๐Ÿค”. Meanwhile, Phil Foden's potential return to form is really exciting - his attacking prowess has been missing since last season ๐Ÿš€. A hamstring injury will be a setback for City, but with their squad depth, they should be able to navigate this one without too much trouble ๐Ÿ’ช.
