Dozens dead after drone strikes on Sudan kindergarten, hospital, local official says

Sudanese civilians are paying a dire price in the escalating conflict between the government and rebels. A drone strike in the army-held town of Kalogi, South Kordofan state, has left dozens dead after hitting a kindergarten and a hospital. According to local official Essam al-Din al-Sayed, who spoke via Starlink, three separate drone attacks occurred on Thursday, targeting innocent civilians.

Al-Sayed accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of carrying out the assault, along with their ally, Abdelaziz al-Hilu's Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North faction. The fighting between the army and RSF has been ongoing since April 2023, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and nearly 12 million displaced people.

Reports from the region are difficult to verify due to poor communication networks and continued insecurity. However, UNICEF estimates that over 10 children aged five to seven were killed in the attack. The death toll is further exacerbated by conflicting reports, with some estimating up to 79 fatalities, including 43 children.

The international community has condemned the attack as a "horrific violation of children's rights." UNICEF Representative Sheldon Yett urged an immediate halt to hostilities and access for humanitarian aid.

Analysts believe that the RSF's push into the oil-rich Kordofan region is part of a broader strategy to break the government's defenses in central Sudan. The rebels aim to retake major cities, including the capital Khartoum. In the past month alone, over 40,000 people have fled the region due to the ongoing violence.

As tensions escalate, civilians are bearing the brunt of the conflict. With poor communication and limited access, accurate information on the situation is scarce, leaving room for speculation about the true extent of the violence in Sudan.

Man, I think the international community is being way too harsh on the RSF πŸ€”. I mean, they're just trying to break free from government oppression and protect their own people. The civilians are caught in the middle, and we can't really blame them for taking sides. It's a total mess down there, with no clear winners or losers. We should be supporting the rebels' right to self-defense, not scolding them for using "drone strikes" πŸ€–. And another thing, if UNICEF is estimating 79 fatalities, that's still a drop in the bucket compared to the tens of thousands who have died already. Let's focus on finding a peaceful solution, but don't be so quick to condemn those fighting for their lives πŸ’ͺ.

🚨 This drone strike in Kalogi is a complete mess 🀯. I mean, a kindergarten and hospital hit? How do you even miss something like that? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ It's not like it was a hard target to find. And to think there are up to 79 fatalities, including 43 kids... 😱 That's just horrific. UNICEF is right to call for an immediate halt to hostilities and access for humanitarian aid. We can't have civilians paying such a high price in this conflict.

I'm also getting frustrated with the conflicting reports πŸ“°. Poor communication networks are one thing, but it's not like we're dealing with complete chaos here. We need more reliable info from credible sources before we can even start to understand what's going on. And let's be real, who benefits from all this conflict? Not the civilians, that's for sure πŸ˜”.

I think it's time for some real strategy and diplomacy 🀝 instead of just more violence. We need to find a way to resolve this in Sudan before things get even worse. The international community needs to step up and demand action from both sides. This conflict is not going away anytime soon, so let's make sure we're doing everything we can to minimize the human cost 🀞.

🚨 this is just getting out of hand... 79 kids killed? it's like they're saying 'you can't even protect your own children' ... 🀯 what kind of so-called 'military' uses drones to target a kindergarten and hospital? that's just wrong on every level. we need to stop throwing around words like "conflict" and actually do something about these atrocities... the international community should be doing more than just condemning it, they should be taking action πŸš«πŸ’”

Ugh, what's up with these drone strikes?! 🚨😱 Like, how do you target a kindergarten? That's just sick. I'm so tired of all this violence and bloodshed... 79 kids could have been alive right now if it wasn't for those drones. It's like the world is just watching from the sidelines while innocent people get slaughtered. πŸ€• The international community is all "condemning" but what can they do? It's not like they're gonna send in some troops to stop it. Analysts say the RSF is trying to break through, but honestly, who cares about their strategy when you have civilians getting killed left and right?! 😑 And let's not forget that UNICEF rep is saying an immediate halt to hostilities... yeah right... like that's gonna happen. It's all just a bunch of words on paper while the people are suffering in real life. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

🚨🀯 I mean come on... how can drone strikes be an accident? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Those rebels need to stop blaming everyone else for their own mess. It's been going on for ages and now they're trying to pin it on the army? Get real! πŸ˜’ The UN is right, though - these kids are innocent and shouldn't have to die because of some rebel infighting. We should be focusing on a peaceful resolution, not playing blame games all day... πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

πŸ€• my heart just sank reading this news 🌧️ its so heartbreaking to think of all those innocent kids getting hit by a drone strike at a kindergarten and hospital 😭 its like something out of a nightmare. the thought of 79 fatalities, including 43 kids, is just devastating πŸ’” i feel for the families who lost loved ones in such a brutal way.

i cant even begin to imagine what its like to be living through this kind of conflict πŸŒͺ️ where are all these innocent people supposed to go? whats happening to our humanity when we lose sight of what matters most ❀️? we gotta keep pushing for peace and an end to hostilities ASAP πŸ’– the international community needs to do more to support those affected by this tragedy πŸ‘Š

🚨😱 This latest drone strike in Kalogi is absolutely devastating! πŸ€• I mean, can you even imagine losing your child to a random attack on a kindergarten and hospital? πŸ’” The numbers are already staggering - tens of thousands dead, 12 million displaced... it's like the entire population of a small country is being torn apart. And with all these conflicting reports, it's hard to get an accurate picture of what's really going on. 🀯 I'm all for supporting our brave rebels fighting against the government, but at what cost? πŸ’Έ The innocent civilians are paying the ultimate price. We need to do more to support them and put an end to this senseless violence ASAP! πŸ™

Ugh this is just so heartbreaking πŸ€•... 3 drone strikes hitting a kindergarten and hospital? That's like something out of a horror movie... what kind of monsters do these people have to be? 😱 The thought of all those children, aged 5-7, dead or injured... it's just too much. I can only imagine the trauma their families must be going through.

The fact that the RSF is behind this attack is just disgusting. It's like they're playing with human lives, using innocent civilians as pawns in their game of war. 🀯 The UNICEF rep saying an immediate halt to hostilities and access for aid makes total sense to me. We need to get these kids the help they deserve.

I'm so sad that this is still going on in Sudan, a country with such a rich history and culture. It feels like we're not doing enough to stop this conflict... I mean, where's the outrage? πŸ€” The international community condemning it as a "horrific violation of children's rights"... yeah, but what's being done about it? We need to do more than just condemn it, we need to take action. πŸ’ͺ

Man... this is getting outta control! Another drone strike hits a kindergarten & hospital in Kalogi 🀯😱 dozens are dead, mostly kids. Can't even imagine what their parents are going through... 10 kids aged 5-7 killed alone, and some reports say up to 79 fatalities πŸš¨πŸ’”. The RSF is really making sure civilians pay the price for this conflict. And the UN's saying it's a "horrific violation of children's rights"... what's gonna stop 'em? The oil-rich region is just a powder keg waiting to blow... 40,000 people fled in the last month alone 🀯😨. This is all so heartbreaking 😭

🚨 This latest drone strike in Kalogi is absolutely devastating. The fact that it hit a kindergarten and hospital is just heartbreaking 🀯. Can you even imagine what kind of trauma those children must have experienced? I mean, we know the conflict in Sudan has been going on for ages, but to see innocent civilians getting caught in the crossfire is just unacceptable.

I'm so frustrated with how little information we're getting from the region itself. Poor communication networks and insecurity are no excuses for not having access to accurate info. We need to get our hands on what's really happening there ASAP πŸ“Š. And the international community needs to step up its condemnations - a "horrific violation of children's rights" is exactly that, and we can't just sit back and do nothing.

It's clear the RSF is trying to break the government's defenses in Kordofan, but at what cost? We're talking tens of thousands of deaths and 12 million displaced people - it's like they're trying to wipe out an entire population. And with reports ranging from 10 to 79 fatalities, it's impossible to know for sure what's happening on the ground.

The UNICEF rep is right on point when he says we need an immediate halt to hostilities and access for humanitarian aid. We can't just stand by and watch as civilians get slaughtered while we try to figure out the details. It's time for action, not just words πŸ’ͺ.
