“Either lying or incompetent”: Bipartisan scrutiny of Hegseth intensifies

Top Pentagon Official Faces Bipartisan Backlash Over Alleged War Crimes.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is under intense scrutiny from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle after new reports emerged about his involvement in a September boat strike in the Caribbean. The incident, which took place as part of the administration's stepped-up maritime counter-narcotics campaign, has drawn bipartisan concern and raised serious legal questions.

According to reports, Hegseth authorized the follow-up attack that killed two survivors, prompting lawmakers to question whether this order was a clear violation of international law. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) stated that directing a strike on shipwreck survivors is "a clear violation of the DOD's own laws of war, as well as international laws." If confirmed, such an action could be considered a war crime.

The incident has sparked fierce debate, with bipartisan leadership of the Armed Services Committees vowing to probe the matter. Sens. Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Jack Reed (D-RI) promised "vigorous oversight" to determine the facts related to these circumstances. On the other hand, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) expressed skepticism, suggesting that Hegseth was either lying about his knowledge of the incident or incompetent.

A recent report by The Washington Post revealed that Hegseth directed the operation's commander to kill everyone aboard the boat, which was carried out as part of the administration's maritime counter-narcotics campaign. Hegseth has rejected the accuracy of this reporting, calling it "fabricated, inflammatory, and derogatory."

The Pentagon and White House have defended their actions, pointing to Adm. Frank Bradley, the mission commander, who approved the second strike. However, some lawmakers have criticized the administration for trying to shift the responsibility to the military.

The incident has sparked a heated debate about accountability and transparency within the administration. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how Hegseth's involvement in this incident will impact his role as Defense Secretary.

Ugh, come on 🙄, guys, can't you fact-check anything? Pete Hegseth is under fire for allegedly authorizing a war crime in the Caribbean and still trying to spin it? Get your news from a reputable source next time, not just Wikipedia 🤦‍♂️. The reports are pretty clear: he directed the attack that killed two survivors, which is a no-brainer violation of international law. And Adm. Frank Bradley's approval doesn't make it okay? Come on, that's some weak logic 😒. I mean, I know both sides have their beefs with Hegseth, but at least be honest about the facts for once 🤷‍♂️. This whole thing is just a mess and needs to be taken seriously. Can we please focus on getting to the bottom of what really happened here? 💡

ugh this is so messed up 🤕 i mean i get that they're trying to take down narco traffickers but come on killing survivors? that's like something out of a horror movie 😱 what's next gonna be like we're all just pawns in some game and our lives have no value?

and can we talk about how the pentagon and white house are shifty with their excuses? trying to shift blame onto the military? that's not okay 🙅‍♂️ they need to own up to their mistakes and be held accountable.

this is exactly why we need more transparency and oversight in our government. if there's even a remote chance that hegseth was involved in this, he needs to step down ASAP 💥 it's the only way to ensure justice and accountability for these people.

I'm getting really uneasy about this whole thing 🤯. The reports that are coming out are super concerning and need to be thoroughly investigated. I mean, if what they're saying is true, it would be a serious breach of international law and could lead to some major consequences for Hegseth's career. I don't know about the Pentagon trying to deflect blame onto Adm. Bradley, that just seems like a weak attempt to cover their tracks 🚫. And with the bipartisan backing coming from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, it's clear that this isn't just some partisan power play. The fact that we're even having this conversation about war crimes and accountability is a reflection of how messed up our system can be 😬.

🤔 I'm really confused by all this, you know? So there's this guy Pete Hegseth, he's like, the head of the Pentagon, and now some people are saying that he might have done something wrong with a boat in the Caribbean 🚣‍♀️. Apparently, he gave orders to kill some people who were on the boat, and now everyone is talking about whether or not that's okay under international law 🤷‍♂️.

It seems like there are two sides to this story - one side says Hegseth did indeed do something wrong, while the other side thinks he didn't know what was going on or is just trying to cover his tracks 🙅‍♂️. I don't really get how all of this works, but it sounds like some serious stuff that could affect a lot of people 🌎.

I'm worried about what this means for the government and for Hegseth himself - will he still be in charge? Will he have to leave? 🤔 It's all very confusing, but I hope they can figure out what really happened and make things right 💯.

.. can you believe what's goin' on at the Pentagon right now? I mean, I've been followin' this story and I'm gettin' a little worried, ya know? This whole thing about Hegseth authorizin' that boat strike in the Caribbean... it's just crazy. I remember back in my day when we had some tough decisions to make, but at least we knew what was goin' on. Now, it seems like our military leaders are just makin' stuff up as they go along and then tryin' to cover their tracks. I'm not buyin' the White House's spin that Admiral Bradley approved the strike... it don't add up.

And what really gets me is that this whole thing is happenin' right under our noses, like we're all just sleepwalkin' through it. Where's the accountability? Why ain't these folks bein' held to account for their actions? It's like they think they're above the law or somethin'. I'm not sure what's gonna come of this, but one thing's for sure... it's time for some real oversight and transparency in Washington.

It's just like that old Cold War era where everyone was so worried about war crimes... now we're hearing similar allegations against a top Pentagon official 🤯. Remember when Tom Cruise was playing Maverick and the whole Top Gun franchise was all about being a hotshot pilot? Well, this Hegseth guy seems to be facing some very serious consequences for his actions. The problem is that no one's really talking about what exactly happened or why... it's like they're trying to deflect attention just like Nixon did back in '72 🚮.

I'm not sure if I'm buying all these reports, but on the surface, it does seem suspicious. It's like when you finally figure out who stole your favorite CD from 1999 – you just want answers! 😂 And why do we have to be so careful about holding people accountable? Remember that scene in The A-Team where Hannibal was being all stoic and serious, but then he just burst into laughter after everything got sorted out? 🤣 That's what I'd like to see here – someone laughing and saying "oh well, it's all just part of the game". 😂

The thing is, as the investigation unfolds, we might find out more than we bargained for... kinda like when you stumbled upon that old VHS tape in your attic from 1997 and it was this totally weird documentary about UFOs 🛸. Who knew?
