Emmett named to Esquire's best new restaurants list

Philly Flavor Wins National Recognition: Emmett Nominated for Esquire's Best New Restaurants List

In a nod to the city's culinary scene, lifestyle magazine Esquire has named Emmett, a Levantine restaurant in Olde Kensington, as one of the country's best new dining spots. The honor comes on the heels of an already impressive debut, with the restaurant opening its doors just months ago in January.

According to Esquire, Emmett's innovative take on traditional Mediterranean cuisine earned it a spot on the magazine's annual list of 33 top restaurants nationwide. What sets Emmett apart is not only its expertly crafted dishes but also its lively atmosphere, making it a must-visit destination for foodies and locals alike.

Chef Evan Snyder's mastery of Middle Eastern flavors is on full display in dishes such as rye tartlet with Wagyu tartare and sesame madeleines charred corn agnolotti. Esquire praised the restaurant's "Philly flavor of now," describing it as a dinner that "tingles with invention and big swings." The magazine also highlighted the restaurant's standout dish: an absolute showstopper duck breast paired with date malfouf.

The restaurant's rotating menu features dishes inspired by several Mediterranean countries, including Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, and Palestine. Emmett's 1,600-square-foot space includes a cozy bar area with just ten seats and 36 table seats for an intimate dining experience.

Chef Snyder joins the team after serving as executive chef of Redcrest Kitchen in Queen Village, while managing partner Julian van der Tak brings his expertise from esteemed restaurants like Jean-Georges, Vernick Fish, and others owned by Michael Schulson and Stephen Starr. Their dedication to culinary excellence has paid off with this national recognition.

"We're absolutely honored to be mentioned among so many other incredible restaurants around the country," van der Tak said in an email. "It's a testament to our team's tireless commitment and a reminder that we must continue to push the boundaries of exceptional dining experiences for every guest who walks through our doors."

With Emmett's Esquire nomination, the Levantine restaurant solidifies its place on the culinary map, promising an unforgettable dining experience that embodies the spirit of Philly flavor.
