Florence + the Machine: Everybody Scream review – alt-rock survivor surveys her kingdom with swagger

Florence + The Machine's latest opus, Everybody Scream, arrives with a sonic boom, shattering preconceptions about the band's trajectory. On the title track, ominous organ and eerie harmonies set the tone for a genre-bending album that defies categorization. What's clear is Welch's preoccupation with fame – her struggles to maintain authenticity amidst the spotlight's glare.

The songwriting, often criticized for being overly theatrical, showcases an unexpected depth. Welch confronts the double-edged nature of stardom on tracks like "Music by Men," where a minimalist setup allows her voice to shine, and "Witch Dance" and "Sympathy Magic," which blast forth with unapologetic fervor.

Seventeen years into her career, Florence + The Machine has evolved from an alt-rock newcomer to one of the most influential artists of her generation. Welch's willingness to address criticisms head-on in songs like "One of the Greats" is a testament to her growth as an artist and songwriter. She wears her reputation like armor, embracing its complexity.

The album's narrative threads are woven around the fragility of fame, the weight of expectation, and the tension between creative expression and public persona. It's a nuanced exploration that underscores Welch's status as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary music. With Everybody Scream, Florence + The Machine asserts her dominance, refusing to be confined by genre or convention.

I'm super stoked for Florence + The Machine's new album but tbh I was a bit skeptical at first 🤔. I mean, we've seen their style evolve so much over the years and it's great that they're experimenting with new sounds... but at the same time, I'm worried they'll lose that signature dark, moody vibe that made me fall in love with them in the first place 🎸.

I love how Florence is tackling themes of fame and authenticity, though. It's so relatable, especially for artists who feel like their public image isn't fully representative of themselves 💭. And I'm loving the fact that she's not shying away from criticism – it takes a big person to own up to their flaws and use them as fuel for growth 🤗.

Overall, though, I'm excited to dive into Everybody Scream and see where Florence + The Machine take us on this sonic journey 🎶. Can't wait to hear more!

omg u gotta check out Florence + The Machines new album everybody scream 🤯 it's like a sonic boom in ur ears! i was so skeptical about their direction but wow they've really stepped up their game 🔥 Florence' songwriting is so underrated, its not just all about being theatrical and dramatic, she's got depth for days 💡 and the way she tackles fame and stardom is so real 🤔 it feels like shes wearing her armor on her sleeve (literally!)👗 anyway, if u haven't listened to it yet, what are u even doing with ur life? 😂

idk about this... i mean, i think it's awesome that Florence + The Machine is pushing boundaries and exploring new sounds 🤯 but at the same time, isn't she kinda perpetuating the whole 'starlet struggles with fame' thing? like, doesn't that feel a bit cliché? 🙃 on the other hand, "music by men" is definitely a highlight... it's so hauntingly beautiful! 💔 and i love how welch is owning her reputation - it's like she's embracing the whole 'diva' image 😏 but at the same time, isn't that just what critics hated about her in the first place? 🤷‍♀️ anyway, i guess i'm just confused... does everybody scream mean everyone should scream or is it more like welch screaming about fame? 🎤

OMG yall! 🤯 I'm low-key obsessed w/ Florence + The Machiens new album "Everybody Scream"!!! 🎶 It's like, their sound has evolved so much and it's AMAZING!! I love how they're not afraid to try new things and break out of their comfort zone. And Florence's songwritin is insane - she's got this deep emotional connection w/ her music that just draws u in. I'm also lovin' how they're embracin' the complexities of bein' a famous artist, it's like... relatable? 🤷‍♀️ Anyway, gotta give props to F+TM for pushin boundaries and creatin somethin truly special

I'm totally loving this new direction Florence + The Machine is taking 🤩! It feels like they're finally breaking free from that alt-rock mold and exploring all these other sounds. I mean, "Music by Men" is giving me life - it's so stripped-down and just Welch's voice, but she still manages to convey this emotional intensity. And the way she's tackling her own reputation in songs like "One of the Greats"... I think that's really brave and shows how much she's grown as an artist. It's like she's embracing the whole 'fame' thing, rather than trying to hide from it. The album feels so raw and honest - I'm already obsessed 😍

omg this album is EVERYTHING 💥 i was like 'okay so what's the vibe for everybody scream?' and then it just dropped and i'm HOOKED 🤯 florence welch is a genius songwriter she's not afraid to tackle tough topics like fame and identity in her music. i love how the album takes you on this journey of self-discovery through song 🌈 from the darker tracks like 'one of the greats' to the more upbeat ones like 'music by men', it's all so well done 🎶 i've been listening to it nonstop since it came out 🎧 #FLORENCEPLUSMACHINE #EVERYBODYSCREAM #SONICBOOM

I'm loving Florence + The Machine's new album Everybody Scream! 🎉 It's like she's finally found her voice and isn't afraid to be loud about it - I mean, who wouldn't want to scream with the best of them? 😂 But seriously, I think what's really impressive is how she's grown as an artist. She's not afraid to confront her own demons and the pressures that come with fame. It's like she's wearing her armor on her sleeve (no pun intended) and it's honestly so refreshing to see someone do that in music. 💪

I'm so glad I finally got around to listening to this album 🤩. I have to say, I was a bit skeptical at first, but Florence's voice just draws you in and it's impossible not to get swept up in the emotion. The way she tackles fame is so real and relatable - who hasn't felt like they're losing themselves under all the pressure? I love how she doesn't hold back on tracks like "One of the Greats" and "Music by Men", it's like she's speaking directly to you. And that songwriting... wow, it's like she's tapping into this deep well of feeling that just pours out onto the page. 🎶

omg I am so loving this new album already! 💖 it's like Florence Welch is speaking directly to my soul on tracks like "Music by Men" - the way she pours her heart out with just her voice is insane 🤯 and can we talk about how iconic that chorus in "Sympathy Magic" is?! 🎵 i've been following this band for years and it's amazing to see them evolve into something even more incredible after 17 years 💥

I'm like totally stoked for this new album... but at the same time I'm kinda meh? 🤔 It's like Florence Welch is trying too hard to prove herself as a deeper songwriter, but some tracks feel like she's still finding her footing? 😐 And don't get me wrong, "Music by Men" is hella catchy, but "Witch Dance"? It's just so... extra 💁‍♀️. I mean, I love the energy, but sometimes I think she's relying too much on the hype to carry the song. Still, I gotta admit, "One of the Greats" is a total banger 🎸. And hey, if it's what keeps her relevant in the music scene, then yay? 🤞

I'm loving the vibe of this new album! The way Florence + The Machine seamlessly blends genres and defies categorization is truly inspiring 💥. I think what's really interesting is how Welch tackles the complexities of fame, using it as a lens to explore themes of authenticity, expectation, and creative expression 🌟. The fact that she's able to address criticisms head-on in songs like "One of the Greats" shows just how much growth and self-awareness she's demonstrated over her career 🙏. It's refreshing to see an artist who's not afraid to wear their reputation like armor, using it to fuel their music instead of letting it hold them back 💪. Overall, I think this album is a game-changer for Florence + The Machine, and it's clear that they're in the midst of a creative resurgence 🎉.
