From Anya Taylor-Joy to Jodie Comer: who will star in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo's TV remake?

Sky is remaking Stieg Larsson's 2005 novel The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo as an eight-part television series, and the world is eagerly waiting to see who will play Lisbeth Salander, the enigmatic and complex heroine of the story. The previous screen adaptations have made stars out of whoever was cast in the role, with Noomi Rapace's performance in the 2009 Swedish adaptation earning her a BAFTA nomination, while Rooney Mara's portrayal in David Fincher's 2011 remake earned her an Oscar nod.

The Sky series is set to go into production this spring, and it's almost certain that Lisbeth Salander will be cast. But before we get too caught up in speculation about who could play the role, let's have some fun with it. Here are a few names that have been thrown around as possibilities:

First up, Emma Corrin, who shares an otherworldly intensity with Salander and has already proven her acting chops in period dramas like The Crown. While she's certainly got the range to pull off this complex role, she does risk being typecast if Sky doesn't give her plenty of opportunities to showcase her acting abilities.

Next, Jodie Comer, who is excellent in everything she touches, from BBC dramas like Killing Eve to post-apocalyptic series like The Rain. She has a knack for playing troubled characters, and her ability to disappear into a role would serve her well in this part. Plus, her experience with accents would be a bonus, given that the series will be filming in Lithuania.

For those who prefer their Lisbeth Salander to be more geographically authentic, Alba August might be the way to go. This Danish-Swedish actress has already shown her acting prowess in Netflix's The Rain and is long overdue for an English-language breakthrough. Casting her would not only bring a new perspective to the role but also provide a fascinating opportunity for audiences to see what Lisbeth Salander would be like in middle age.

And then, of course, there's Noomi Rapace, who famously played Lisbeth Salander in the 2009 Swedish adaptation and earned herself a BAFTA nomination. Recasting her in this new series could be seen as a clever move, given that it takes advantage of the fact that The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is set to be filmed in the present day. It's an experiment worth considering – would Salander be softer with age, or have she become angrier than ever? We can only speculate.

Of course, there's one person who has already been cast as Lisbeth Salander (or at least should have been), and that's the writer of this article. Sorry to say, but unless Corrin has indeed been chosen for the role, I'm just not very imaginative when it comes to casting suggestions.

I'm so hyped for this new series 🤩! Lisbeth Salander is such a fascinating character and I think whoever plays her is gonna bring some amazing energy to the screen. Emma Corrin seems like an awesome choice, but I feel like she's got that "period drama" vibe going on and might get typecast if Sky doesn't give her some darker roles. Jodie Comer is a no-brainer in my opinion - she's already proven herself in so many intense dramas and has the range to pull off Salander's complexity 🙌.

But, tbh, I think Alba August would be an amazing choice too! It'd be great to see Lisbeth Salander in middle age and explore what that would look like. And, of course, casting Noomi Rapace again would be a bold move, but it's definitely worth considering. Fingers crossed they choose someone who can do justice to the character 🤞

idk why Sky is remaking The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo again lol 🤷‍♂️ they're basically copying Noomi Rapace's iconic performance from 2009 anyway she was a total game changer for Lisbeth Salander no need to try out new actresses 🙄 Emma Corrin or Jodie Comer could do the role but why bother if it's already been done so well? and Alba August is way underrated lol she'd be lit as middle age Lisbeth Salander btw

I don't know why they're making a whole new series about Lisbeth Salander again 🤷‍♀️. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was great in 2009 and 2011, but I think that's enough for me. The original cast did an amazing job, especially Noomi Rapace, who brought so much depth to the character.

I'm not really sure what's next with casting, but I do hope whoever gets chosen has to bring a lot to the table because Lisbeth Salander is such a complex and intriguing character 🤔. It'll be interesting to see how they portray her at different stages of her life – will she still be that fiery and determined, or has she mellowed out with age?

I do think Emma Corrin would be great in the role though, I've seen her in The Crown and she's got an otherworldly intensity that could work really well for Lisbeth. But ultimately, it depends on how Sky chooses to adapt the story and what they're going for with the character 📺.

omg i love how excited everyone is about the new adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo!!! 🤩 i mean, lisbeth salander is such a complex and intriguing character, it's going to be so cool to see her on screen again... or for the first time! 🎬 as for who should play her, i'm like "let em have at it" 😂 but seriously, emma corrin would be amazing i love her in The Crown, she's got that same intensity and range that lisbeth needs. and jodie comer is another great choice, she's so versatile and can totally bring the drama to this role... or could she? 🤔 alba august is also a solid pick, it's about time she broke out of her niche roles and showed us what she can do! 😊

🤷‍♂️ I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but I think we need to give the writers some credit for coming up with these cast suggestions. It's not easy to imagine who would be perfect for Lisbeth Salander, and they're offering some interesting options 🤔. I mean, Emma Corrin is definitely a great choice, and Jodie Comer would bring her own unique vibe to the role 👑.

I also think it's cool that Alba August is being considered – she's got an amazing range and could totally pull off this complex character 💪. And as for Noomi Rapace, well... let's just say I think she's been unfairly underappreciated in the past 🙄. She was a total boss in the 2009 adaptation, and it would be awesome to see her bring Lisbeth Salander back to life.

And hey, who knows? Maybe the writer of this article (wink, wink 😉) will surprise us all and get the part!

idk why sky needs to remake this already done story 🤷‍♀️ like noomi rapace was amazing as lisbeth salander in 2009 and we don't need a new version right now 😒 what's next, remaking all the other great books from the past century?
