Volunteers Needed to Answer Holiday Food Bank Calls in Houston
As the holiday season approaches, many families in Houston are struggling to put food on the table. The Houston Food Bank is calling for volunteers to help answer phone calls from those in need of assistance.
ABC13's Share Your Holidays program is expanding its efforts this year to provide support to those who require meals during the holidays. However, with the surge in demand comes a pressing need for more volunteers to join the cause.
Spanish speakers are particularly needed to volunteer at the phone bank, as they will be crucial in speaking with individuals from diverse backgrounds and providing language support. No experience is required to participate, and volunteers can sign up by selecting red shifts on the Houston Food Bank website.
During each shift, which runs from 10am-7pm from Monday, December 1 through Wednesday, December 3, volunteers will register people who are eligible for holiday food boxes. To aid in this effort, a comprehensive binder containing information will be provided to volunteers before starting their shift.
To support the efforts of the Houston Food Bank beyond the holidays, donations can be made online or by texting SYH2025 to 71777. All donations will contribute to programs that benefit those in need the most.
Those interested in lending a hand can sign up on the ABC13 Share Your Holidays page and create a volunteer profile. With volunteers' help, the Houston Food Bank is better equipped to address food insecurity during this critical time of year.
