Houston Food Bank needs volunteers, Spanish speakers to join Share Your Holidays phone bank

Volunteers Needed to Answer Holiday Food Bank Calls in Houston

As the holiday season approaches, many families in Houston are struggling to put food on the table. The Houston Food Bank is calling for volunteers to help answer phone calls from those in need of assistance.

ABC13's Share Your Holidays program is expanding its efforts this year to provide support to those who require meals during the holidays. However, with the surge in demand comes a pressing need for more volunteers to join the cause.

Spanish speakers are particularly needed to volunteer at the phone bank, as they will be crucial in speaking with individuals from diverse backgrounds and providing language support. No experience is required to participate, and volunteers can sign up by selecting red shifts on the Houston Food Bank website.

During each shift, which runs from 10am-7pm from Monday, December 1 through Wednesday, December 3, volunteers will register people who are eligible for holiday food boxes. To aid in this effort, a comprehensive binder containing information will be provided to volunteers before starting their shift.

To support the efforts of the Houston Food Bank beyond the holidays, donations can be made online or by texting SYH2025 to 71777. All donations will contribute to programs that benefit those in need the most.

Those interested in lending a hand can sign up on the ABC13 Share Your Holidays page and create a volunteer profile. With volunteers' help, the Houston Food Bank is better equipped to address food insecurity during this critical time of year.

omg i feel so bad for ppl struggling to get food 🤕 does anyone know if they can donate canned goods or something? like, i wanna help but i dont have much money 🤑 also why cant we just make more holiday jobs? i mean i'd volunteer in a heartbeat if i had a way to pay my bills 💸 and whats with the spanish speakers needed thing tho? isnt that what we should be teaching ppl in school already? 🤷‍♀️ btw does anyone have tips on how to deal with all these automated surveys and stuff? they always make me wanna pull my hair out 😩

🤔 I think it's really cool that they need Spanish speakers for the phone bank 🗣️! Like, language is super important when helping people from different backgrounds 🌎. It's also awesome that no experience is required 🙅‍♂️, so anyone can join in and make a difference ❤️.

I was thinking we could draw a quick Venn diagram to show the different groups who might need help 📝:

Circle 1: People who need food boxes
Circle 2: Volunteers who want to help
Overlap: Spanish-speaking volunteers 🗣️
Overlap: Other volunteers 🤝

So, what do you think? Can we draw a diagram to visualize this even more? 🎨

I'm seeing so many posts about people struggling with basic needs like food this holiday season... it's just sad 🤕. I'm glad they're setting up a phone bank in Houston though - we need all the help we can get, especially when it comes to language support. I mean, can you imagine calling a hotline and only speaking Spanish? It would be super frustrating 😒. But seriously, it's awesome that ABC13 is expanding their Share Your Holidays program to make sure everyone has access to some decent meals. If I'm being honest, I wish more people knew about this stuff before the holidays rolled around 🤷‍♂️. Still, it's a great opportunity for us all to step up and lend a hand.

Ugh 🤕 another holiday season and ppl r strugglin to feed their fams in Houston... like what even is the point of havin all the money if u cant afford food 🤑 and now they're callin out for volunteers to help but like, who's gonna take the time off work or school when everyone else gotta do it 🤷‍♀️ Spanish speakers needed tho, its cool that they r lookin out for those language barriers.

Man I'm telling ya, it's crazy how times have changed 🤯. I remember when my mom used to struggle to make ends meet during the holidays, and now there are people who need help just to put food on the table? It's heartbreaking 😔. But you know what's even more amazing? All those volunteers who are gonna help answer those calls and provide support to families in need 🙌. I mean, it's not easy, signing up for a 10-hour shift or whatever, but it's all worth it, right? And that they're looking for Spanish speakers specifically? It just shows how diverse the community is and how much we need people from all backgrounds to come together and help each other out 🤝. I'm not even saying I'm gonna sign up myself (although I might 😉), but if I can just toss a few bucks their way, that's gotta count for something 💸.
