Houston Food Bank needs volunteers, Spanish speakers to join Share Your Holidays phone bank

Houston Food Bank Urges Volunteers and Spanish Speakers to Join Phone Bank During Holiday Season

The Houston Food Bank is calling on volunteers to answer calls from food-eligible individuals seeking holiday meal assistance, with a special focus on recruiting Spanish speakers to join the effort.

Volunteers will play a crucial role in registering individuals by phone to receive holiday food boxes. While no prior experience is necessary, staff will provide a 15-minute training session before each shift to ensure volunteers are equipped to handle the task. The Houston Food Bank has identified an urgent need for Spanish-speaking volunteers to help address the growing demand.

Shifts are available from Monday, December 1 through Wednesday, December 3 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and can be signed up for on the ABC13 Share Your Holidays page. To volunteer, simply create a profile and look for red shifts. The Houston Food Bank website will also have a reservation map where individuals can follow the instructions to register.

Those in need of a food box can register online through the Houston Food Bank's website, but be aware that demand is expected to be extremely high during this time period, potentially leading to lengthy wait times.

In addition to volunteering, donations are also welcome and can be made online or by texting "SYH2025" to 71777. All donations will go towards supporting the Houston Food Bank's programs and services, which provide essential support to those in need during the holiday season.

๐Ÿค” just thinking about all these people going hungry over the holidays is super sad ๐Ÿ˜”, but what's even more amazing is that there are so many awesome folks like the ones volunteering for the Houston Food Bank who want to help ๐Ÿ™! and hey, getting Spanish speakers involved is a great move - language barriers can be tough to overcome, so it's awesome they're making an effort to include everyone ๐ŸŒŸ! what I'm curious about though is how we can make sure these volunteers don't get overwhelmed with the calls? like, I get that people need help during holidays but still, 10 am to 7 pm is a pretty big time slot ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ.

man this is so important ๐Ÿค... people in houston are struggling to make ends meet and the food bank is like the only one helping out ๐Ÿด... i wish more ppl could volunteer their time to help register people for these food boxes, it's not that hard just 2 hours a day can make a big difference ๐Ÿ’•... and spanish speakers are needed esp since that's like half the population in houston ๐ŸŒฎ... let's all do our part and support this great cause!

omg, who doesn't love a good phone bank ๐Ÿ“ž? like, it's not exactly my idea of a fun way to spend the holidays, but hey, if you're into that sorta thing... ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ I mean, I guess it's great that the Houston Food Bank is trying to reach out to spanish-speaking folks who might need some extra help during this time of year. ๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿ‘ Those 15-minute training sessions sound super helpful tho ๐Ÿ™ƒ, probably more help than most ppl would give themselves ๐Ÿคช.

Man I remember when my grandma used to help out at the local soup kitchen back in the day ๐Ÿ™... anyway, this Houston Food Bank thing sounds like it's really helping out a lot of people in need. I'm all for volunteering and donating - it's just so sad that we have to have these phone banks and charity events during the holiday season... but at least it shows that people care ๐Ÿ’•. I wish they'd consider adding some Spanish language training too, 'cause my aunt used to work with a lot of Latinx families who were struggling to get help... it's just not fair that everyone can't access what they need ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ.

๐Ÿค just saw this news about the Houston Food Bank and I'm super excited! ๐ŸŽ„ they're really counting on volunteers, especially Spanish speakers, to help out with phone calls. did u know that the houston food bank serves over 2.5 million people in our community? ๐Ÿ“Š and during the holiday season, the demand for food assistance can increase by up to 50%! ๐Ÿšจ so yeah, volunteering is super important! ๐Ÿ™Œ also, did u know that food insecurity affects 1 in 8 households in harris county? ๐Ÿคฏ we gotta come together as a community to help each other out. ๐Ÿ’•

omg u guys! ๐Ÿคฉ like i know it sounds super cool but the houston food bank needs us!!! we gotta help out people who r struggling to get food esp during holidays ๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿ˜”. spanish speakers, yeah let's go!! ๐Ÿ’ช they need our skills and our time to answer those phone calls so someone can get some food ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿฅจ. no prior exp needed lol just 15 min training and u r good to go! ๐Ÿ“š shift times are from dec 1-3 and can b signed up on abc13 page ๐Ÿ‘‰ let's do this for the houston food bank ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿค” You know what this got me thinking? It's like a perfect example of how we gotta invest in our communities, especially when it comes to serving the most vulnerable populations ๐Ÿค. I mean, think about it, people struggling to make ends meet, and they're gonna be competing for limited resources during the holidays? It's just not right.

I'd love to see this as a bipartisan effort, with both parties coming together to support our fellow citizens in need. We should be working on policies that address income inequality and access to basic necessities like food ๐Ÿฅ—. This phone bank initiative might seem small, but it's actually a microcosm of the bigger issues we face.

As an urban dweller, I'm all about community engagement, but this reminds me that we need systemic change too ๐Ÿ’ก. We can't just rely on volunteer efforts; we need to create a safety net that's more inclusive and effective. This holiday season should be a call to action for our leaders to prioritize policy over politics ๐ŸŽฏ.

Omg, I'm like totally feeling so grateful for people like that at the Houston Food Bank ๐Ÿ™ they're doing such a huge job helping out all these ppl who are struggling during the holidays it makes me wanna jump into action and volunteer my time to help too! But honestly, can we talk about how crazy busy the phone bank is gonna be? I mean, i'm no expert but isn't that like, totally overwhelming for everyone involved? ๐Ÿคฏ still, i think it's amazing that they're doing this and recruiting volunteers from spanish speaking backgrounds - it's a great way to address some of the gaps in our community's support systems ๐Ÿ’ก

Just thinkin', usin' our voice to help others can make a big difference ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ. I'm not exactly sure how many people are gonna be affected, but if we all chip in, maybe we can get some of these folks the food they need. And hey, even just 15 minutes of your time could make a big impact. Don't gotta be fluent in Spanish to help out either - just be willing to listen and help with the registration process.

You know what's wild? I was just thinking about this the other day... have you ever noticed how some foods just taste better when they're frozen? Like, think about it - a good ol' frozen pizza or ice cream is way more enjoyable than their fresh counterparts. Maybe it's the convenience factor, or maybe our brains are wired to associate cold temps with happiness ๐Ÿ˜Š. Anyway, I was thinking of trying out this new Korean-style fried chicken place that just opened up downtown... has anyone been there? ๐Ÿ—

I'm so done with how fast technology has taken over our lives... remember when you actually had to wait on hold for like 30 minutes just to talk to someone? Nowadays, it feels like everyone's just phoning it in and needs help ASAP ๐Ÿ“ž. Anyway, I guess volunteering at the Houston Food Bank is a good way to give back during the holidays. Too bad we don't have more Spanish speakers willing to lend a hand - my abuela always said that's where the heart is โค๏ธ.

I'm not sure how effective this phone bank thing is gonna be... like, what if someone just wants a meal and can't even think straight about how to sign up? ๐Ÿค” I mean, it's great that they're trying to help, but can't we do better than just relying on volunteers? It's already gonna be crazy during the holidays. And what about those who don't speak English? What's gonna happen if they need help or something goes wrong? ๐Ÿšจ

๐Ÿ˜’ This is a classic case of the powers that be trying to get people to sit at home while the ones who are struggling the most are left out in the cold ๐Ÿคฅ. They're relying on volunteers, but only on Spanish speakers? What about everyone else? Are they just gonna leave all those other languages out of it? And don't even get me started on the fact that it's a phone bank... what if someone calls and needs more than just food? Maybe they need help with rent or bills ๐Ÿค‘. I mean, I'm happy to volunteer, but let's not pretend like this is a genuine attempt at helping people when really it's just a ploy to get people to stay indoors while the system keeps on rolling ๐Ÿ’ธ

๐Ÿค” I'm like totally confused about why people still gotta wait on hold for so long just to get some food ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ I mean, can't we just use robots or something to help with all these calls? I guess that's not a bad idea though... ๐Ÿ‘‰ We should def try out this phone bank thing and see how it goes. Spanish speakers are super needed right now, imo. ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ My aunt used to volunteer at the food bank and said it was always super busy during holidays. Anyway, let's get those phones ringing and make a difference in our community ๐Ÿ’•!

๐Ÿค gotta say, it's crazy that there's such a huge demand for food assistance in houston this holiday season ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ. i mean, i get it, times are tough for some people, but it's wild that people are having to scramble just to put food on the table ๐Ÿคฏ. anyway, volunteering at the food bank sounds like a great way to give back and make a difference in your community โค๏ธ. especially with so many spanish speakers being recruited, it's awesome that the houston food bank is trying to reach out to those who might not have access to resources otherwise ๐ŸŒŽ. anyone got time to spare over the holidays?

๐Ÿค I'm all about helping out this holiday season ๐ŸŽ„! I think it's awesome that the Houston Food Bank is recruiting volunteers, especially Spanish speakers ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ’ฌ, to join their phone bank effort. It's a great way for us to make a difference in our community and provide support to those who need it most ๐ŸŒŸ. I mean, who doesn't love a good meal on Christmas Day, right? ๐Ÿด๐ŸŽ! Let's all lend a hand and spread some holiday cheer โค๏ธ. Sign up now and join the #HoustonFoodBank #VolunteerLife #HolidayCheer #SpanishSpeakersUnite

๐Ÿค It's really heartwarming to see people coming together to help those in need. As long as we've got the willingness to lend a hand, we can make a difference! ๐ŸŒŸ
