How Mortal Kombat (and moral panic) changed the gaming world

Mortal Kombat is back and it's like we're reliving that super awkward conversation between Joe Lieberman and Midway in 93 🙃. I mean, who doesn't love gratuitous violence and 'fatalities' that are more hilarious than scary? It's crazy to think how this game sparked a whole moral panic thing... now we have Fortnite and Doom getting all the attention for being edgy 😏. At least back then, it was just a few gamers vs lawmakers 🤣. The gaming industry has come a long way (or so I'm told 😉).

I'm still not convinced about these 'classic' games being released with all their original features 🤔. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's cool to revisit old favorites, but do we really need to revisit that level of gore and violence? 😅 Mortal Kombat was just a product of its time, and I think it's interesting how it sparked a whole new wave of controversy in the gaming industry. But now, when you look back at it, it just seems like a bunch of cheap thrill stuff 🤷‍♂️. And what's with all these remasters and collections? Can't we just leave some games in their original form? 🙄
