To manage files on your iPhone and Android device, start by opening the Files app. On iOS, you can find it in the bottom right corner of the home screen or search for it in the app library.
The Files app is divided into three main tabs: Recents, Shared, and Browse. The Browse tab is where you'll spend most of your time. Here, you'll find all your local and cloud storage locations, including iCloud Drive, On My iPhone, and any third-party cloud storage accounts connected to iOS.
To access file operations on either platform, press and hold on a file. This will bring up options like rename, copy, move, share, and delete. If you've selected multiple files, use the icons at the bottom of the screen to manage them.
One useful feature in both apps is the ability to clean up unnecessary files. On Android, tap the menu button (three horizontal lines), choose Clean, and select files you can safely delete. On iOS, press and hold on a file until options appear; from here, you can delete or move the file to the Trash folder.
The Files app also allows you to search for specific files using the top search box. For file types like PDFs and images, tapping a file will open it directly. Other formats may launch a separate app on your device.
To free up storage space, you'll want to tap the three dots (top right) next to any file and select Clean tool or Trash from the menu. Android's Files app also lets you select multiple files at once by holding down on one file until checkboxes appear.
