It: Welcome to Derry review – the demonic, liver-eating baby in this Stephen King prequel is horrifying

Derry's Dark Legacy Unleashed in 'It: Welcome to Derry'

For those who don't revel in the horrors of Stephen King's universe, Andy Muschietti's prequel series 'It: Welcome to Derry' is a stark reminder why this author has become synonymous with terror. The opening sequence, which sets the tone for the entire series, is nothing short of gruesome – a family's innocent facade shatters as they reveal their true nature, transforming into liver-eating demons that bring forth an unholy bloodbath.

The story then shifts to April 1962, where we meet Matty, a young boy who has been missing from his hometown for four months. It is here that we are introduced to a group of children – Teddy, Lilly, Ronnie, and Phil – who embark on a mission to find their friend, driven by guilt and the promise of redemption.

Meanwhile, adults in Derry are entangled in a web of Cold War secrets, with Major Leroy Hanlon discovering a sinister plot that threatens to tear the town apart. Dick Hallorann, a telepathic man with ties to The Shining, plays a crucial role in unraveling the mysteries of Derry.

One of the standout aspects of 'It: Welcome to Derry' is its ability to seamlessly weave together King's iconic tropes and themes – idyllic small-town America, supernatural horrors as metaphors for human-made evils, and the cruelties we inflict on each other. The series expertly balances unease with a sense of hope, ultimately leading to a confrontation that unleashes the full fury of Derry's dark legacy.

While 'It: Welcome to Derry' may not usurp its predecessors in the King pantheon, it is a solid and entertaining addition to the franchise – rivaling Under the Dome in quality. Fans will undoubtedly be treated to nightmares, while others can only prepare themselves for the horrors that lie ahead.

In short, 'It: Welcome to Derry' is a masterclass in building tension and delivering terror, ensuring that this series will leave an indelible mark on viewers – a testament to King's enduring legacy as a horror icon.

I'm telling you, something fishy about this new 'It' movie 🤑... First of all, they're always poking holes in the whole 'it can't exist' thing with these prequels. What's next? A 'Twin Peaks: Welcome to Twin Peaks' or something? 😏 I mean, I'm not saying it's all a conspiracy or anything (okay, maybe I am 🤣), but this series just feels like an attempt to control our minds... I mean, who comes up with these tiny details about the town's history and makes us care? It's too perfect. And don't even get me started on those 'metaphors for human-made evils' - sounds like a bunch of psychological manipulation to me 🤷‍♀️. Still, I guess it's kinda entertaining if you're into that sorta thing...

I just watched the trailer for 'It: Welcome to Derry' and I'm already feeling uneasy 😟. The way they're setting up this small town with all these dark secrets is giving me major Stranger Things vibes, but with a much darker twist 🕷️. Can someone please confirm if there's any actual evidence of supernatural forces at play in Derry or is it just some classic King trickery? 🤔 Also, what's the deal with this Cold War subplot? Is it really that deep or are they just trying to add more complexity to an already creepy story? 💡

I'm so down for this new series 🤩 but at the same time I'm like, what's the point of even watching it if we all know it's gonna be super scary 😬? Like, can't we just have a light-hearted show for once instead of wallowing in all that horror and gross-out stuff 🎃. And don't even get me started on those 'liver-eating demons' - gross! My stomach is doing flips just thinking about it 😷. But hey, if you're into that sorta thing, I guess 'It: Welcome to Derry' might be right up your alley 🤪. Just don't say I didn't warn you 😳.

Just watched 'It: Welcome to Derry' 🎃😱 and I'm still shuddering from the opening sequence... all those gruesome scenes had me on edge 😨. The way they woven together small-town America vibes with supernatural horrors is pure gold 💯. I love how it explores human-made evils in metaphors for real-life cruelties, giving you a sense of unease that's hard to shake 🤯. And let's be real, who can forget those iconic 'It' scenes from the previous movies? 🎬 Still, this prequel series holds its own, delivering some serious chills and leaving you waiting for more... 👻

🎃️ I'm lovin' how 'It: Welcome to Derry' just shattered the Netflix record for most views in one weekend 🤯 - 62 million! 👀 And let me tell you, it's no wonder they reached that milestone - the show is seriously binge-worthy 😂.

Now, have you seen these stats on Stephen King adaptations? ⚡️ He's got a whopping 47% of his works adapted into TV and film 📺. Mind blown! 🤯 And the box office numbers are insane! 'It' (2017) grossed over $701 million worldwide 💸.

The way 'It: Welcome to Derry' balances unease with hope is so on point 🔥. I mean, who doesn't love a good underdog story? 🐾 And those supernatural horror tropes? King's got the formula down pat 📚.

Here's a fun fact - did you know that Stephen King wrote 'It' in 28 days straight? 💨 That's dedication! And it shows in the final product 😎.

By the way, have you checked out the production design of Derry? 🏙️ It's seriously creepy and immersive 👻. The showrunners must've done an amazing job creating this atmosphere of dread 😳.

Ugh, I'm so over the horror movies with all the gore 🤮🎃️. Can't they just make a scary movie without being so graphic? I mean, I get it, Derry's got some dark history and all that, but do we really need to see the whole gruesome thing? It's like the filmmakers are trying to win an award for most creative way to make us cringe 😳. And don't even get me started on the supernatural bits... telepathy and demonic possession? Give me a break 🙄. Still, I guess it's well-made and all that, but can we please have some variety in our horror movies? Maybe something that doesn't rely so heavily on jump scares? 😴

I just finished binge-watching it and I'm still shaking 😱. The way they portray the kids being stalked by Pennywise is giving me anxiety. Like, I get that it's supposed to be scary but some parts had me on edge irl 🤯. And can we talk about how Derry as a setting is like, the ultimate horror theme park? It's like King took all his dark thoughts and put them into this tiny town. Mind blown 💥. The acting was great too, Dick Hallorann was so cool 👍. But seriously, if you're easily freaked out, you might want to steer clear of this one 😳.

🎃 I'm still trying to process how much I loved this new 'It' series 🤯 It's like they took all the dark, twisted themes and made them even more terrifying 😱 The way it explores small-town America's dark underbelly is just chilling 💀 And can we talk about Dick Hallorann for a sec? He's such an underrated character 😍 His telepathic abilities are so cool! 🔮 I'm definitely hooked on this series now and I need to know what happens next 🤔

.. just watched that new It movie 🎃️ and I gotta say, it's still sending shivers down my spine like it was 90s all over again 😨. The way they've woven together all those creepy elements from the original... it's just too much 😓. And don't even get me started on the kids in Derry, they're so scared I'd have been hiding under my bed with a flashlight too 😂. But you know what really gets me? It's like that old saying - "you can take the boy out of Derry, but you can't take Derry out of the boy" 🤪. Still gives me goosebumps thinking about it 👻.
