Jason Bateman called ‘gross’ for grilling Charli xcx on not wanting kids

Jason Bateman Gets Roasted for Questioning Charli XCX on Not Wanting Kids During 'Smartless' Podcast Interview

In a recent episode of Jason Bateman's podcast, "Smartless," the star was left red-faced after questioning pop sensation Charli XCX about her decision not to have children. The conversation turned awkward when Bateman, 57, pressed Charli, 33, on why she wouldn't want kids, despite growing up as an only child and seemingly enjoying the idea of parenting.

Charli's straightforward response was met with stunned silence from Bateman and co-host Sean Hayes, who couldn't quite wrap their heads around her answer. "No, none?" asked Bateman, before Charli calmly replied that she didn't feel ready to have a child, pointing out that even naming a hypothetical child could be overwhelming.

The exchange left listeners in shock, with many taking to social media to express their outrage and disappointment at Bateman's behavior. The 57-year-old actor was accused of being rude and tone-deaf for grilling Charli about her personal choices, while others pointed out his apparent lack of knowledge about the singer, including her marital status.

Hayes, on the other hand, seemed more familiar with Charli's work and even referenced her hit album "Brat Summer." Bateman, however, sounded clueless when asked if he remembered Charli's connection to Kamala Harris's presidential campaign. "That started with you? I'm so old," he quipped.

Critics argued that Bateman had done his due diligence on the topic of women not wanting kids and that Charli was right to be protective of her boundaries. One Reddit user wrote, "This is one of my problems with the 'Smartless' podcast... They do some great interviews and then they do some where it's clear they really don't know the person."

The controversy highlights a broader issue – the lack of understanding and respect for women's reproductive choices in society. As Charli XCX pointed out, people often pressure women to conform to certain expectations around motherhood, without fully considering their own desires or circumstances.

In the end, Charli emerged from the interview with her dignity intact, having clearly communicated her boundaries and values. For Bateman, the experience was a learning lesson in empathy and understanding – one that may come too late for this particular episode of "Smartless."

omg, batman was totally outta line questioning charli about not wanting kids 🤯 he thought it was an easy answer to get, but charlie was all like "no, none" 😂 and then he had the nerve to say that charlie didn't know what she wanted because she's a woman? like, come on batman... you're 57 and you still don't get it 🤦‍♂️

anyway, i think charli was right to set boundaries with batman, and we should all be supporting women who choose not to have kids. it's not up to anyone else to decide what's best for them 💁‍♀️. and honestly, batman sounded like a total awkward grandpa in that interview 🤣. sean hayes was the only one who seemed cool, but even he couldn't save batman from himself 🙄

I'm thinking... 🤔
So Jason Bateman is being roasted for asking Charli XCX about not wanting kids? Like what's wrong with that? 🤷‍♂️ It's a valid question, right?
But then he sounds kinda clueless when she just says no and doesn't feel ready.
I drew this little diagram to help explain the situation

```
+---------------+
| Jason asks |
| about not |
I think it's kinda messed up that people are calling out Bateman for not knowing the basics about women's reproductive choices.
He was just trying to have a conversation! 🤗
But at the same time, I get why Charli XCX felt uncomfortable with the way he asked her questions.
It's all about respect and understanding each other's boundaries, you know? 💖
🤦‍♂️ u gotta feel bad 4 Charli XCX tho, batman went hard at her like she's some kinda kid or somethin 🙄 he don't even know she's been in a relationship with harris like what is this 2023 lol 😂 & the worst part is ppl think he's a decent dude just bc he hosts this podcast, newsflash buddy: just bcs u got a mic dont mean u gotta be all about respect 🤷‍♂️
omg 😱 i'm so done with jason bateman right now 🤦‍♂️ he's like 57 and still doesn't know how to have a respectful convo 🙅‍♂️ charli xcx was totally right for saying she's not ready to be a mom yet, but batman just wouldn't let it go 🙄 and then he had the nerve to make a joke about being old 😳 what's next? him asking charlie kirkman if she remembers doing SNL sketches from 10 yrs ago 🤣 seriously tho, this is like a huge deal cuz it shows how much pressure there is on women to conform to these unrealistic expectations around momhood 👧 and honestly, i feel bad for charli xcx because it's clear she just wanted to have a normal convo about her life 🙏
I think Jason Bateman's question towards Charli XCX was kinda awkward 🤔... like he thought she'd just give him some simple answer without considering her feelings, you know? And yeah, it's like, women don't have to explain themselves or their choices to anyone, especially not a dude who's gonna grill them about it 😒. I feel bad for Charli that the conversation got so awkward, and I gotta say, Sean Hayes seemed way more chill in comparison 🤷‍♂️... maybe because he knew a bit more about her work? Anyway, it's good that people are talking about this issue and how we can all do better to respect women's reproductive choices 💖.
omg dont even @ me i love jason bateman but girl bye he lowkey roasted charli xcx on her own boundaries lol what was he thinking? didnt do his research or just straight up asked a personal question like thats cool i need to give it 2 her for owning that convo and setting those boundaries btw i got no love for the haters tho
omg 😱 batman is SO extra!! like who does he think he is questioning charli on not wanting kids?! i mean i get it charlie's being chill but batman is the one who's being rude. maybe he should've done some research before asking her all those questions. and btw charlie's response was perfect she didn't owe him an explanation. sean hayes on the other hand seemed really cool and calm about the whole thing. anyone else think it's weird that batman doesn't know how to ask a question without sounding rude? 🤔
omg i feel so bad for charli xcx 🤗 she just wanted to share her honest thoughts on not wanting kids and jason bateman went and roasted her 💔 like what's the point of having a podcast if u dont know how to have a respectful convo with ur guests? 🤷‍♂️ and btw sean hayes was way more chill and actually seemed to care about charli's work 🙌 let this be a lesson to jason and his team - do some research on ur guests before interviewing them, and for the love of all things good, respect people's boundaries 💖
omg i was totally on the edge of my seat during that podcast interview 🤯 charli xcx is low-key my girl and it's so refreshing to see her hold her own against bateman's awkward questions 😂 i mean, who pressures someone into conforming to societal expectations around having kids? it's like, every woman has the right to make their own choices about their bodies and lives. Bateman sounds like a total clueless dude 🙄 and yeah, sean hayes seemed way more at ease chatting with charli 🤜🤛 i'm glad charlie held her ground and didn't let bateman's questions get to her 😌
