Man charged for allegedly threatening to kill President Trump in social media post

Federal prosecutors have charged a 57-year-old man from suburban Chicago with threatening to kill President Donald Trump on social media.

Trent Schneider's arrest comes after he allegedly posted a "selfie-style video" on Instagram, in which he said he planned to get guns and "take care of business himself." The post included a caption stating that Trump should be executed, but claimed it was not a threat.

The charge stems from a complaint filed by the US Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois, alleging Schneider made a threat in interstate commerce to injure a person. Following his arrest, a federal judge ordered Schneider to remain detained in federal custody until his next court hearing on Thursday.

According to prosecutors, Schneider allegedly posted the same video and caption approximately 18 times between October 16th and 21st. A concerned citizen who viewed the post reported it to law enforcement at the time.

Schneider is facing a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison if convicted by the Department of Justice.

omg, can't believe this guy thought he could just threaten to kill the Prez and get away with it . newsflash, dude: social media doesn't excuse violent threats . i mean, 18 times posting the same video? that's not a casual tweet, that's a cry for help . someone should've reported this sooner, like, way sooner... how many people do we need to get hurt before we take action?

can you believe this dude's got more guts (or lack thereof) than a razorblade, posting that on instagram and expecting no consequences . like, what's next? sending him to a 'thought camp' where he can learn about empathy and stuff? seriously though, 5 years in the clink sounds about right for this guy - maybe it'll teach him that threatening the prez isn't as cool as he thought . honestly, I'm kinda surprised more people didn't report it sooner... seems like a pretty clear-cut case of 'don't be stupid, don't post that' .

lol what's going on with this guy trent schneider? like, i get it he's upset with trump and all but threatening to kill him? that's just not cool . i feel bad for the guy tho, if you're that angry u can't even go on social media without getting in trouble . and five years in prison is a pretty harsh sentence, like what was he thinking posting it 18 times tho? shouldn't have been so reckless . anyway, i hope he gets some help and stuff, 'cause this whole situation is just kinda crazy

omg can you believe this guy thought he could just threaten the Prez and get away with it? i mean, yeah, he might think he's some kinda edgy rebel but really he's just a dude who got caught up in his own ego. and instagram is supposed to be all about sharing your life with ppl you know, not inciting violence against public figures

anyway, the fact that he posted the same thing like 18 times and thought nobody would notice is pretty wild. i guess you could say he was just trying too hard to get attention? or maybe he genuinely thought that if enough ppl saw it, he'd be taken seriously lol

ugh, now we've got some dude potentially facing federal prison time for this. 5 yrs seems like a decent sentence to me. at least the law's holding him accountable

Oh man, that's so concerning ... think about what that guy was planning to do and how many people were affected by his posts... it's crazy how one person can cause such a huge stir online . It makes you wonder if we're doing enough to monitor those kind of threats on social media... I mean, 18 times?! that's just not right. And poor Trump, who has to deal with all this negativity and criticism all the time... it's just heartbreaking to think about how much stress he must be under . Anyways, sending positive vibes to the guy who reported him for speaking up ... we need more people like him!
