Man charged with slashing 2 others on Queens subway platform

A 28-year-old Queens man has been charged with four counts of assault in connection with two separate incidents that left two men injured, one critically. Tyquan Manassa was taken into custody on unrelated charges after being arrested for an incident involving criminal mischief, and police said he had no apparent provocation to attack the two victims.

Manassa was allegedly involved in the violence on Wednesday at around 3:15 p.m. at the Union Turnpike-Kew Gardens station, where he attacked a 42-year-old man and a 50-year-old man without warning, causing them both significant slash injuries to their faces. Both men were taken to the hospital in stable condition, with authorities saying Manassa fled the scene.

The suspect's connection to homeless shelters on Randall's Island was confirmed by police officials, but his attorney's information for this incident has yet to be released. The lawyer who handled an unrelated case that led to Manassa's arrest did not respond to a request for comment.

According to NYPD data, overall transit crime in the city is down 5% compared to the same period last year, but violent assaults on subways and buses have seen a slight increase, with over 500 felony assaults reported so far this year.

Ugh man, these subway attacks are getting outta control 🚫😬. Like, what's going on with people having no regard for their fellow human beings? I know there's some homeless issues on Randall's Island that need to be addressed, but does it mean resorting to violence? 28 years old, you're not a kid anymore, act responsibly! And 500 felony assaults so far this year? That's crazy. We need more community programs and support for people struggling with mental health or addiction. Not just throwing them on the streets without resources 🤕. I'm all for keeping our subways safe, but we gotta address the root issues here...

man this guy got charged for some serious crimes, like slashing people's faces without warning 🤯 it's crazy how someone can just lose control like that. and to make matters worse, he was already out on bail for a different thing...it's like the system is broken or something 🙄 anyway, i guess we should be glad it wasn't even more serious - those two guys are lucky they made it out alive 💪 transit crime stats are pretty wild too, though. 5% less crime in general is good to hear, but the fact that violent assaults on subways and buses have gone up kinda sucks...i mean, what's going on with our city?

I'm worried about people like Tyquan Manassa out there - how can they just lash out at random strangers? I mean, what's going through their heads, right? 🤯 He could've hurt those guys a lot worse too, and now they're left with these serious injuries. It's crazy how one guy can cause so much harm to others. And it's not like he had no reason to fight back - just because the cops say he didn't have provocation doesn't mean there wasn't a problem. I hope he gets some help or whatever and that those two guys recover fully from their injuries 🤞.

🤔 honestly though who needs that much security when you're just chillin' on the subway idk what's going on with these people tho like is it some kinda underground fighting club or something? 🤺♂️ I mean i'm glad the victims are okay but like, what was manassa even thinking? And 5% less transit crime is not exactly something to brag about, like we should be worried about this stuff still 🙄

🤕 u no how dis stuff can happen in broad daylight? 28 yrs old guy gets caught up in some crazy stuff & now he's facin' assault charges 🚔💥 its crazy thinkin about the two dudes who got hurt, one of 'em was critical lol what if someone came to their aid instead of callin the cops? mighta changed everything 🤯 NYPD is doin their thing, but like, whats goin on with these homeless shelters tho? sounds like there's somethin more at play here...
