Maro Itoje, Steve Borthwick: England's goal is to win 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia - 'We've been very clear'

England captain Maro Itoje and head coach Steve Borthwick are clear in their intentions for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia - winning it all.

The England team will face Wales, Tonga and Zimbabwe in the pool stages next year, and if they top their pool, they should avoid some of the tougher opponents like South Africa, New Zealand and France.

However, Borthwick believes that his squad has progressed significantly over the last 18 months and are on a path of development. They will now focus on accelerating this process through hard work and preparation.

Itoje echoed these sentiments, saying that England's goal is to win the World Cup in 2027 and that the team is excited about the prospect of competing against top teams like Wales and Tonga.

Meanwhile, Wales coach Steve Tandy is confident that his side will be in a much better place come the start of the tournament in nearly two years' time.

The Rugby World Cup format involves the top two teams from each pool progressing into the final 16, with the top team in each pool playing off against the third-placed nation. The winners of Pools E and F then take on the runners-up from pools D and B, before the semi-finals.

Overall, England's draw is seen as favourable, with no major hurdles to overcome until the final.

I'm kinda excited for the 2027 Rugby World Cup 🤞, but at the same time, I think it's gonna be tough for anyone to win it all 😬. England's squad has made some decent progress, but they're still a ways off from being on par with the top teams like South Africa and New Zealand 🤔. And let's not forget Wales is looking pretty solid too 🔴💪. Australia's got some big games coming up, so we'll see how it all plays out 💥. One thing for sure, though - it's gonna be a wild ride 🌪️!

I think its gonna be a super intense tournament next year! I mean, who wouldn't wanna watch England and Wales go head to head? 🏉👊 I'm not sure if England will actually win it all tho, they gotta put in the work if they wanna beat those top teams. I hope our rugby team is ready for it tho, we need some new talent on the field! 🤔

I'm not sure I agree that England has an easy path to the finals 🤔... I mean, don't get me wrong, their pool looks pretty relaxed, but those group stage matches against Wales and Tonga aren't gonna be a cakewalk 💪. And what about the quarterfinals? If they do make it past that point, they'll still have to face some tough opponents 👊. I think Steve Borthwick's team needs to stay focused and keep working on their game if they want to take down the big boys 🏆

idk how much of a difference the pool stages are gonna make for england...they're already talkin about focusin on acceleration after they get outta there 🤔. and 18 months of progression? that's a pretty short time in rugby terms...wales might just have somethin to say about england's chances 🏉

OMG 🤩 I'm literally counting down the days until 2027! Itoje and Borthwick are so pumped for this and I am HERE. FOR. IT!!! 😍 They've made huge progress in the last year & a half and it's clear they're focused on accelerating their development. Top of pool is looking like a solid plan - fingers crossed they can pull it off! 🤞💪

idk about england thinkin they got a shot at winnin this thing lol they got a decent pool but wales gonna give em a run fer their money 🤔, tonga's lookin fierce too and zimbabwe might be the dark horse 🐴... meanwhile, australia's been gettin all the hype for hostin the tournament what's the real plan here? are they just gonna let england coast through to the final? 🤷‍♂️

You know what's been bugging me lately? I was trying to order a pizza online the other day and their website was so slow! I swear, it took like 3 minutes just to load the menu. And don't even get me started on the delivery guy - he forgot my name twice! 🤦‍♂️ Anyway, back to rugby... I think England's got a good shot at winning it all in 2027. But have you tried that new vegan pizza place downtown? It's actually pretty solid! 🍕

omg u guys i'm literally so stoked for england rugby!!! 🤩 they gotta win that 2027 world cup!!! 💪 i know steve borthwick & maro itojé r like super confident in their squad rn, but honestly idk if they can take down wales tho 😂 tony johnson is straight fire on the pitch! as for the aussie draw, yeah idc what pools they get stuck with 🤷‍♀️ england's probs got this tournament in the bag 💼

I'm so nervous for my kid now that England's squad is looking super strong for the 2027 Rugby World Cup 🤯🏉 They've got a great team dynamic and Itoje is such a leader on the pitch! As a parent, it's hard not to worry when your country's team is competing against top-notch teams like Wales and Tonga 😬 But I'm sure Steve Borthwick will do everything in his power to get them ready for the big stage 💪 One thing's for sure, my kid's going to be glued to the telly watching all the matches! 📺👍
