Celebrity Stylist's Lawsuit Against Mary J. Blige Dismissed Over 'Bad Faith Tactics'
A Manhattan judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by celebrity stylist Misa Hylton against R&B legend Mary J. Blige, citing "bad faith tactics" used by Hylton in filing the case.
Hylton, who once dated Sean Combs and styled stars like Lil' Kim, Missy Elliott, and Aaliyah, sued Blige last year over claims that the singer had sabotaged her management relationship with rapper Vado. However, despite having access to significant time to investigate the allegations, Hylton failed to file a response or any other filing in the case.
Blige's lawyers had asked the judge to dismiss the case and impose monetary penalties on Hylton and her attorney, Nicholas Ramcharitar, for their actions. The judge agreed, stating that Hylton's decision not to withdraw the complaint was tantamount to abandoning her claims.
In a scathing response, Blige's attorneys argued that Hylton's allegations were "baseless" and entirely fictional, intended to coerce a favorable settlement through social media and press releases. They also pointed out that Hylton had never provided any concrete evidence to support her claims.
The judge warned that if Hylton or Ramcharitar engaged in similar patterns of behavior in the future, they could face sanctions for their actions.
Hylton's attorney has stated that she chose not to pursue the case due to threats she received during Sean Combs' sex trafficking trial. However, Vado will continue to pursue claims against Blige through an appeal.
Blige has won a major victory in her defamation lawsuit against Hylton and Ramcharitar.
