Meet Harlem's New Year's baby

Harlem Hospital Welcomed New York City's First Baby of 2026 Just as Midnight Struck

A baby girl, who remains unnamed until her parents' cultural traditions dictate, made history by being born in Harlem just after midnight. According to officials from NYC Health+Hospitals, the child was welcomed into the world at precisely 12 a.m. on Thursday morning, marking the start of a new year for New York City.

The proud parents, Oumy and Amadou Niang, who hail from Senegal, welcomed their fifth child into the family after migrating to the United States in 2006. Now residing in Harlem, they expressed relief that their newborn daughter is healthy and weighing just over seven pounds at birth.

Oumy explained that according to her cultural traditions, it's customary to keep a child's name hidden for an entire week before announcing it in celebration. "In my culture," she said, "you have to hide the name for one week." This custom adds a unique layer of excitement and anticipation to the naming ceremony.

In related news, NYC Health+Hospitals announced that Queens was also welcoming its first baby of 2026 at Elmhurst location, where Liam Steven Bunay Marcatoma was born just before 3:30 a.m. The newborn weighed nearly nine pounds six ounces.

πŸŽ‰πŸ’• Oh man, can you even? 🀯 A new year and a new baby girl to start it off! 🌟 I'm so happy for Oumy and Amadou Niang, they must be over the moon πŸ˜†! Seven pounds at birth is already adorable 🐰. And that naming ceremony tradition sounds like so much fun 🎊! Keeping secrets until after midnight makes the reveal even more special 🀫. Can't wait to meet this little cutie pie soon πŸ‘ΆπŸ’•

I mean I love how babies bring everyone together, you know? And can we talk about those parents, Oumy and Amadou, they're so happy their little one is healthy πŸ€±β€β™€οΈβ€οΈ. I'm curious though, have any of us ever thought about the whole 'name reveal' thing in our own families? Like, are we hiding names until a certain occasion or just kinda keeping it under wraps for family only? And what's with all these first babies being born at night, is NYC just a sleep-deprived town or something 😴. I wonder if Elmhurst and Harlem have any secret deals on baby bundles or something...

I'm not buying the hype around this new year's baby being born at midnight in Harlem πŸ€”. I mean, what are the chances that two babies from different parts of the city get born right at the stroke of midnight? It sounds like a marketing ploy to get people talking about NYC Health+Hospitals πŸ’Έ. And what's with all the fuss about the parents' cultural traditions? Is this really breaking news or just a way to fill up social media feeds πŸ“±? I need more info before I start celebrating πŸŽ‰.

OMG, this is so cool πŸ€©πŸŽ‰! I mean, can you even imagine getting ready for the new year and having a baby pop out right at midnight? Like, what are the chances?! 😲 And it's not just any baby, it's a girl who gets to keep her name hidden for a whole week before sharing it with the world. That's so much fun! 🎊 I love that cultural tradition, by the way. And btw, Queens is already getting in on the 2026 new year baby vibe too? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Can't wait to see what other crazy, amazing babies come this year!

aww can u believe this lil baby girl is the first one of 2026 already?! i mean, it's not like she had a choice in being the first one out the gate lol. but seriously, it's amazing that oumy and amadou are keeping her name hidden for a week - my mom used to do something similar with me when i was born & now they're just trying to make it even more special πŸ€—. and two babies so close together?! gotta be super tired fam πŸ˜΄πŸ’€

omg isnt it crazy how these babies are breaking records left and right? like new york city's first baby of 2026 already has two of them 🀯 first in Harlem and then Queens? gotta love the excitement around these new additions to our world πŸ’• and can we talk about those cultural traditions? hiding a child's name for an entire week before announcing it? that's some next level anticipation right there πŸ˜‚ what do you guys think about this custom?

πŸš€ just think about it, another new life is born in the city that never sleeps, it's like the energy of nyc is spreading through every single soul πŸŒ†. and to think these little bundles of joy are already changing their parents lives in ways they never thought possible πŸ’–. meanwhile, i wonder if anyone thinks about all the tiny humans being born into a world with so many problems... anywayz back to the niangs, ain't it cool how they got to celebrate their culture like that? πŸŽ‰ keep doin' you, oumy and amadou πŸ‘ΆπŸ’•

Just had to 😍 when I read about the new arrival in Harlem Hospital! Born just as midnight struck πŸ•°οΈπŸ‘Ά girl is gonna be all star 🀩. Love how proud parents Oumy & Amadou are over their little one's health & weight πŸ’ͺπŸ½πŸ‘Ά. Can't wait to meet the baby next week when her name is finally out πŸ“£πŸ’¬. Also, congrats to Liam in Queens πŸ‘πŸ’•. These newbies always bring joy & happiness 😊❀️!

OMG, can you believe the parents-to-be were so chill? I mean, they could've been freaking out, but nope, "hide the name for one week" vibe is all about the culture and family vibes right? πŸ˜‚ Like, what if the kid's name was like, "Mortgage Debt" or something? 🀣 But seriously, congrats to Oumy and Amadou on their new bundle of joy! And I'm loving the NYC Health+Hospitals' timing – first baby of 2026 at midnight, that's like setting a timer for awesomeness! πŸ•°οΈπŸ’₯

omg can you believe it's already 2026?! feels like just yesterday I was watching the ball drop on new year's eve 2015 🀩 and thinking about how fast time flies... anyway, this little baby girl from Harlem is so lucky to be born in one of the greatest cities in the world! seven pounds at birth is pretty normal for a first-time mom, but i bet she'll grow up with a big smile and an even bigger heart ❀️ these parents are so grateful to have their daughter healthy and happy... can't wait to see what the future holds for this little one πŸŽ‰

THE NEW YEAR IS OFF TO SUCH AN AMAZING START!!! I MEAN, WHO WOULDN'T WANT THEIR BABY BORN JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT?! IT'S LIKE THE WHOLE CITY OF NEW YORK IS CHEERING THEM ON! AND THE FACT THAT OUMY AND AMADOU HAVE A SPECIAL TRADITION FOR NAMING THEIR KIDDS IS SO COOL!!! I MEAN, WHO DOESN'T LOVE A GOOD HIDDEN NAME REVEAL?! AS FOR LIAM STEVEN BUNAY MARCHATOMA BEING BORN IN QUEENS, THAT'S JUST THE ICING ON THE CAKE!!! IT'S LIKE NEW YORK CITY IS SHOWCASING ITS BEST BABY-BAFFLING SKILLS THIS YEAR!
