Mexico's president touts successful crackdown on cartels amid Trump's threats to intervene

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has touted the success of her government's efforts to crack down on Mexican cartels and slow migration north, amid threats from US President Donald Trump to intervene. The comments come as a relief for Mexico, which has sought to maintain good relations with the United States despite Trump's aggressive rhetoric.

Sheinbaum, a leftist leader, highlighted a 97% drop in waterborne drug trafficking, as well as significant decreases in fentanyl seizures and migration at the southern border. Mexican authorities have also seized over 1,500 pounds of methamphetamine from clandestine laboratories.

The President attributed the success to joint cooperation with the US, saying "there are very compelling results" from their efforts. However, she emphasized that the US must do its part in addressing the root causes of cartel violence, including the high rates of drug use in the country.

Sheinbaum's comments also underscored the importance of respecting Mexico's sovereignty and territorial integrity. When asked about her conversation with Trump, she said it was "very good" and that the US President understood the country's concerns.

Despite these positive developments, tensions between the two countries remain high. The Trump administration has been accused of militarizing the southern border, which Sheinbaum has criticized as a threat to regional stability.

In contrast to her predecessor, who faced international criticism for his authoritarian tendencies, Sheinbaum has sought to build bridges with the US and promote cooperation on issues like crime and migration. Her efforts have been welcomed by many in Mexico, who see her as a pragmatic leader capable of navigating complex relationships with Washington.

come on, 97% drop in waterborne drug trafficking is quite impressive, but let's not forget that the US is still dumping all its toxic waste along the border, and you're expecting us to just ignore it? πŸ€” and btw, what's up with this "joint cooperation" nonsense, if the US is only doing its part, then why are there still cartels thriving in your backyard? 🚫

im so glad to hear that mexico is seeing some positive changes under claudia sheinbaums leadership, especially when it comes to tackling cartels & reducing migration north πŸ™Œ. 97% drop in waterborne drug trafficking is insane 🀯, and i think its awesome that mexican authorities are working together with the us on this stuff. but we cant forget that the root causes of cartel violence are still there, and mexico needs the us to do more to address those issues, like reducing drug use rates in the country 🀝. also, its cool that sheinbaum is standing up for mexicos sovereignty and territorial integrity – thats super important πŸ’ͺ. lets hope this positive vibe continues between mexico & the us!

aww dont worry mexico you got this πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ’ͺ claudia sheinbaum is doin it right she's all about respectin her sovereignty and gettin that cartels on lock while also tryna make things better for her people 🀝🌎 meanwhile trump can just chill his racist rhetoric and militarizin the border is def a no go πŸ˜’πŸ’”

πŸ€” I think it's quite interesting that President Sheinbaum is emphasizing the importance of joint cooperation between Mexico and the US, while also highlighting the need for the US to address the root causes of cartel violence in their own country 🌎. It's almost like she's saying that if the US can't help itself, then Mexico can't really stop the flow of drugs and migrants either 😬.

I'm also glad to see that Sheinbaum is holding up a mirror to Trump's aggressive rhetoric and refusing to be intimidated by it πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. As she said, there are "very compelling results" from their joint efforts, which suggests that cooperation can be productive when both sides work together πŸ“ˆ.

However, I do think it's worth noting that Mexico is trying to walk a tightrope here - on the one hand, they want to maintain good relations with the US, but on the other hand, they need to protect their sovereignty and territorial integrity 🌴. It's a delicate balancing act, for sure!

idk why trump's always trying to stir up drama πŸ€”. mexico's got some serious issues, but i think sheinbaum's approach is way more level-headed than the last prez. 97% drop in waterborne trafficking? that's a huge win! and i'm with her on addressing the root causes of cartel violence - like, what's going to stop it if we just slap a Band-Aid on the problem? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ also, gotta respect sheinbaum for not taking trump's bs lying down. it's cool that they had a good convo and the us is doing its part (or at least trying). but seriously, can we all just take a chill pill and work together to solve these problems? 😎

Yaaassss 😊 this is amazing news! Claudia Sheinbaum's government has made some huge strides in tackling cartel violence and slowing down migration north 🚫πŸ’ͺ I'm so proud of her for working together with the US to achieve these results, it just goes to show that when we put our heads together, we can get things done 🀝. And I love how she's calling out the US to do its part in addressing the root causes of cartel violence, it's all about being a team player πŸ’•! Mexico needs a leader like her who truly cares about the country and its people ❀️. Bring on more positivity and cooperation between our two countries πŸŒˆπŸ’«

Ugh, I'm so tired of these forums where everyone's just repeating the same talking points without actually thinking about it 🀯. Like, I get that Sheinbaum's got some good stats on reducing waterborne drug trafficking and all that, but Trump is still a major wild card here πŸ—‘οΈ. And don't even get me started on the US's so-called "cooperation" with Mexico - sounds like they're just using it as an excuse to flex their military muscles along the border πŸ˜’.

And what's up with the lack of nuance in these comments? It's all either "Sheinbaum is a genius!" or "Trump is a terrible dude!" πŸ€”. Can't we have a more nuanced discussion about this stuff without resorting to simplistic soundbites? I mean, I get that Sheinbaum's trying to build bridges with the US and all, but what are the real implications of her policies on Mexican sovereignty and regional stability? 🀝

I swear, forums like these are just a breeding ground for echo chambers and uninformed opinions 🚫. Can't we strive for something better than this?

I remember when Trump was still all about that wall stuff 🀣. Now, he's just trying to intervene and mess up the whole thing again. I'm not sure what's going on over there, but it seems like Sheinbaum is doing a better job than her predecessor. At least she's talking to Trump, that's more than can be said for some of the other leaders in Mexico πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. And yeah, 97% drop in waterborne drug trafficking? That's huge! I guess you could say it's like when we used to take down those old cable TV providers and their "best deal" nonsense πŸ“Ί. Just kidding, but seriously, it's nice to see some progress being made on that front. Still, I'm a bit skeptical about Trump's motives... πŸ€”

πŸ€” so mexico's president is saying they're making progress on crackin down on cartels but i'm still skeptical πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ like what's really goin on here? 97% drop in waterborne drug trafficking sounds too good to be true πŸ’§. and don't even get me started on the methamphetamine seizures... how much of that is just propaganda? 🀣 also, what about all the people still gettin carted off or killed by these cartels? 🚫 seems like mexico's success story is more about hidin the truth than makin real progress πŸ’”

Ugh, what a huge weight's been lifted off my mind... finally some positive news about our southern neighbors! 97% drop in waterborne trafficking is insane 🀯 and I'm glad to see Mexico's taking steps to crack down on cartels. It's high time someone did something about this mess.

I'm all for joint cooperation with the US, but let's be real, we need them to do their part too πŸ˜’. We can't just sit back and wait for them to fix everything. And I love how Sheinbaum's standing up for our sovereignty - that's some much-needed courage from a leader!

I'm still not convinced about Trump's intentions though... all this talk of intervening in Mexico's affairs is super concerning πŸ€”. Can we really trust him? I hope Sheinbam's diplomatic efforts pay off and we can finally see some real progress.

It's great to see Mexico getting the recognition it deserves, but at the same time, let's not forget that there are still huge issues here... like how our cartels are fueled by American demand πŸ’”. We need to work together, for real this time 🀞

omg i cant believe trump is still making waves 🀯 about mexicos cartels he just needs to stop acting like a baby and let mexico handle its own issues πŸ™„ sheinbaums efforts are legit though 97% drop in waterborne drug trafficking is not something to be taken lightly πŸ’ͺ plus the seizures of that much meth is insane 1500 pounds is crazy talk about cooperation between us and mexico but trump needs to step up his game and stop being so aggressive πŸ˜’
