When life gets you down, it can be a blessing. Actress Miranda Otto shares her philosophy that even the most disastrous of situations can sometimes spark something wonderful.
Otto was asked about what she'd do if she could be any fish for a day, and while she joked that she'd want to be an Aussie blue groper because it's a "special" local fish, she said it's cool that there are creatures like the blue groper which people go out of their way to see.
When asked about her favorite film, Otto confessed to being a huge fan of Ernst Lubitsch's 1942 classic To Be Or Not To Be. She loves this film so much that when it came up on screen at the Ritz cinema in Randwick recently, she and her friend just burst out laughing together.
One thing Otto has learned from working with others is to trust those around you. She remembers a particularly chaotic moment during rehearsals for A Doll's House, where she tripped over a script line but was saved by her co-star Pete O'Brien. "If you don't know where you are, look at the people you're working with – they'll show you," she says.
Miranda Otto is often asked about Eowyn, Aragorn's brave and loyal friend from Lord of the Rings, who helped the hobbit win his kingdom back. Otto loves hearing how Eowyn has inspired women to be stronger and more independent when they were growing up.
Fans love asking Miranda Otto silly questions – like what was in that infamous stew served by Eowyn to Aragorn at the Prancing Pony. But one thing's for sure: it wasn't exactly gourmet cuisine!
While working on Reaching for the Moon, Otto experienced her most chaotic set experience yet. But despite being thrown off schedule and having various last-minute changes, she says that somehow – some way – the film turned out to be incredibly well-made.
As a secret talent, Miranda Otto reveals she's actually good with numbers – an unexpected skill from someone you might expect to be more words-orientated!
Finally, when asked for life advice, Otto recommends embracing failure as much as success. She learned this valuable lesson in high school when someone told her not to be afraid to fail.
The Pout-Pout Fish is now playing in Australian cinemas and US cinemas on March 20th – don't miss out!
