MLB execs bullish on David Stearns’ Mets overhaul — but have some lingering questions

Steve Cohen's Mets regime is finally starting to pay off, with executives from around the league taking note of the team's transformation. David Stearns' appointment as CEO marked a significant shift in strategy, particularly given his background working in small-market Milwaukee.

While last year's splashy signing of free agent Juan Soto was undoubtedly eye-catching, it may have been an isolated incident rather than a systemic change. This offseason has brought more substantial and far-reaching changes to the organization.

The recent departures of key players like Pete Alonso, Edwin Díaz, Brandon Nimmo, Jeff McNeil, and Luisangel Acuña have left many wondering about the Mets' long-term trajectory. What was once a question mark is now starting to answer itself – and not in a way that might sit well with fans.

idk why people are surprised lol they said this team needed a shake up and thats exactly what's happening 🤷‍♂️ its like david stearns came in and was all "ok guys we got this" and the front office is now starting to listen i get that pete alonso etc got dealt but at least the mets are building for the future not just buying wins like in years past ⚾

I'm not surprised they're finally getting some attention 🙄... all it takes is a few big moves and suddenly everyone's like "oh look, the Mets are doing something right" 💁‍♀️... meanwhile the players who were supposed to be the cornerstone of this team are just slowly walking away one by one 😴. I mean, I get that teams have to make adjustments and all that, but it feels like they're more interested in breaking up their core than building a solid foundation 🤔... and now the question is what's next? 🤑

I'm totally stoked about how the Mets are shaping up but at the same time I'm super worried it's all just a flash in the pan 🤔💥. I mean, what about all those stars they let go? It's like they're throwing away the foundation of this team, you know? And I get why they did it – gotta make room for new talent and stuff – but can't we keep some of our core players for once? 😂👍 I'm loving the direction Cohen is taking but what if it all falls apart? 🤕💔

I'm loving this new direction for the Mets 🙌! It's like they're trying something new and it's actually working 🔥. I mean, people are talking about them being a legit contender now... it's surreal 😂. Don't get me wrong, losing Alonso and Díaz was huge hits to the team, but I think this shake-up is gonna be for the better. They were always gonna be stuck in mediocrity mode as long as Brodie Van Wagenen was at the helm 🤦‍♂️. David Stearns' appointment was a game-changer and now it's all coming together 👍. I'm still salty about losing Nimmo and McNeil though 😢, but I trust the process 💯. Bring on the playoffs! ⚾

OMG, u gotta see what's happening w/ the Mets right now 🤯! I mean, Steve Cohen's been shakin' things up and it's payin' off in a BIG way! David Stearns comin' on board was like the catalyst they needed, trust me. And y'all thought last year's Juan Soto signing was wild, but this offseason? That's just the beginning 🚀. They're makin' some tough decisions, but it's all part of the plan. I mean, Pete Alonso and Luisangel Acuña gotta go? It's like... growth or somethin' 😊. Still a bit worried about how fans are gonna react, but I'm here for the shakeup! 😉

I think what's really interesting is how people perceive the "payoff" of Steve Cohen's investment. Like, we've all seen some flashy moves made during the offseason, but I'm not sure if it's necessarily about the individual signings themselves... 🤔 It's more about the overall approach they're taking to rebuild the team. And I think that's what's attracting attention from other teams – the way they're thinking about long-term sustainability rather than just short-term gains.

It's also worth noting how people are reacting to some of these departures. Some fans are gonna be salty, no doubt, but at the same time... you gotta wonder if it was all just a huge misfire and Cohen was playing with fire the whole time 😅. I mean, we've seen some teams make big moves and then come crashing down, so it's definitely possible that this could be one of those situations where things are more complicated than they seem.

I'm curious to see how things play out over the course of the season – will they surprise people with a deep playoff run? Or was last year just a fluke? ⚾

OMG 🤯 I'm loving how the Mets are turning it around! It's like, they went from being kinda meh to actually being a contender 💪 The changes this offseason have been fire 🔥, especially with David Stearns at the helm 👏 He must've brought some magic dust or something ✨ to help flip that script around. I'm still trying to process what happened to Alonso, Díaz, and the others... did they really just leave? 🤔 Either way, it's clear the new regime is shaking things up and making some smart moves 💡

I'm loving how the Mets are shaking things up! 🤯 They went all out last offseason, but it's great to see they're making some tough decisions this year too. Losing Alonso and Díaz was rough for fans, but you gotta give it to them - they're rebuilding in a smart way. It's like David Stearns said, he's bringing a small-market sensibility to the big leagues. I'm curious to see how this new era of Mets plays out... will they surprise us with some young talent and make a deep run? 🤔

I'm loving how the Mets are finally turning it around 🙌! I mean, who would've thought after all the big signings they made? I think David Stearns has brought some serious A-game to the table, especially considering he came from a small-market team like Milwaukee. It's like, you can't replicate that kind of success with just one big splashy signing 🤷‍♂️.

The moves they've made this offseason have been super subtle but actually really smart 💡. I'm not gonna lie, though, it's still gonna be tough for fans to see some of the bigger names like Alonso and Acuña go... 😢 But at least it looks like the team is finally heading in a direction that's more sustainable than just being one-hit wonders 🎯.

What do you guys think? Am I crazy for loving this new direction? 🤔

I gotta wonder what's really going on here 🤔... one day we got this awesome new regime, CEO David Stearns coming in, shaking things up big time, and the next thing you know, key players are getting shipped out like they're disposable 😒... I mean, I get it, business is business, but can't we just have a solid core for once? 🤷‍♂️ And what's with all these departures this offseason? Is it just coincidence or is there something more to it? Need some sources on this one before I start believing the hype 💡...

I'm loving the Mets resurgence 🤩 but I gotta say, it's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride this season. The team's transformation under David Stearns is definitely a good thing, especially considering his background in small-market Milwaukee. However, I do think the recent departures of key players might have caught fans off guard. I mean, who saw Pete Alonso and Edwin Díaz leaving? 🤔 Still, it's hard to deny that something changed over the offseason, and now they're reaping the benefits 💸. But for how long? It'll be interesting to see if this momentum continues or just falters down the stretch ⚾️.

I'm telling you, it's like the Mets went from being a team of misfits to actually knowing what they're doing 🤣. I mean, who would've thought that getting rid of all those superstars would be the key to success? It's like they took all the leftover parts from the MLB scrap yard and mashed them together into something new and (dare I say) surprisingly effective 😂. Don't get me wrong, it's gonna hurt for some fans who are used to winning (or at least being in contention), but hey, you can't put a price on being relevant, right? 💸

I'm loving this new vibe the Mets are going for 🤝🏽. I mean, don't get me wrong, losing Alonso and Díaz hurts, but they're not exactly the heart of the team anyway ⚾️. The moves made so far show that Cohen's crew is all about building a solid foundation for the future, not just chasing a quick win 💪. And let's be real, Soto was always gonna be the X factor – it's how the rest of the team responds to his presence that matters 🔒. Still, I gotta say, this is some of the best roster management we've seen from a big-market team in years 🤓. Fingers crossed they can find some solid contributors to bolster their lineup 🍔👌

🤔 The Mets are on the right track, I'd say. It's like they finally figured out how to balance their big-market expectations with the realities of being in NYC 🗽️. David Stearns coming in as CEO was a great move, it brought some fresh blood and new ideas to the table 💡. The moves this offseason were bold, but I'm not sure if they'll pay off for fans like me who grew up loving the Mets ⚾️. It's hard not to get attached when you've seen so many talented players come and go over the years 😔. Still, I think it's time for them to focus on building a sustainable winner, not just a flashy team that'll be gone by next season 🤦‍♂️. Maybe this is an opportunity for them to prove themselves in the long game? 💯

🤔 I think what's been missing from the Mets' strategy is a solid mid-season rotation boost 🔄 They were always so reliant on their ace guys, but what about a few deep breaths when the season gets tough? David Stearns has definitely brought some new blood to the team, but now they need to make some savvy moves in August to keep it all together 💼

I'm calling BS on this whole "payoff" thing 🤔. I mean, sure, Steve Cohen's money must be doing some good, but it's still the same old team we've been watching for years. These big-name departures just sound like a fancy way of saying "we're blowing up the roster and hoping to rebuild on the cheap". And don't even get me started on David Stearns... how much did he really change? 🤑 I need to see some actual numbers or data before I start buying into this hype. What's the ROI on all these changes, anyway? How does it translate to wins on the field? 📊

I'm loving how the Mets are finally making some moves 🤩! But let's be real, this transformation wasn't just about Steve Cohen dropping a few bucks on some talent 💸. It was a calculated strategy to revamp the entire organization from top to bottom.

And I gotta say, David Stearns' appointment as CEO was a masterstroke 🎯. Bringing in someone with experience working in small-market Milwaukee shows that the Mets are serious about getting back to basics. No more splurging on flashy free agents; it's time for a more sustainable approach 💪.

Now, I know some fans are gonna be salty about the departures of key players 🔥, but let's not forget: this is baseball, not politics 🤣. The Mets are just making tough decisions to ensure long-term success. And who knows? Maybe we'll see a repeat of 2015 – you know, the year the Cubs broke their curse and won it all! 😏
