Mountain View barber, an HIV positive man accused of sexually assaulting 60 men, appears in court

A 35-year-old man with HIV has been arrested in Mountain View, California, on charges of sexually assaulting at least 60 men over several years. Franklin Enrique Sarceño Orla, who worked as a barber, is facing life in prison after his arrest earlier this month. According to investigators, the suspect would often target vulnerable individuals, including clients and strangers he met at nightclubs.

The case has been described as one of the most shocking and disturbing in recent memory by law enforcement officials. "When you have more than one, that's crazy enough," said Detective Lauren Riffel, who led the investigation into Sarceño Orla's crimes. "When you have more than 5, 10, going all the way up to over 60 people - talking to 60 humans that were victimized in a certain population, it's terrible to have to hear these stories over and over again."

Victims reported losing consciousness after sharing drinks with Sarceño Orla, waking up injured in his home. The suspect was arrested after fleeing the country to Guatemala but was re-captured and returned to face justice.

The case has sparked an outpouring of support for the victims, who have come forward to share their stories in the hope of helping others. "In my career of almost 27 years, I have never seen a case like this - with this scope, with his breath of impact on our community," said Mountain View Police Chief Michael Canfield.

The suspect remains in custody without bail and is set to appear in court again in January. The charges against Sarceño Orla include multiple counts of rape and assault, as well as enhancements due to his HIV status.

Law enforcement officials have praised the victims for their bravery in coming forward and have vowed to bring justice to those who have been affected by the suspect's crimes.

OMG I'm like totally heartbroken for all these poor guys 🤕💔 they deserve so much love and support!! 60+ people can't be taken advantage of like that, it's just not right 😡 the fact that he targeted vulnerable individuals is just cruel and thoughtless... but thank god the victims are coming forward to share their stories and help others 💖 law enforcement is doing a great job of keeping everyone safe, let's give them all a big round of applause 🙌🏽💪

OMG 🤯 just saw this news and I'm SHOOK 😲 can't even right now... 60+ victims?! That's like, a whole country's population of someone getting sexually assaulted every year... it's just insane 🤪 and on top of that, he was targeting vulnerable individuals... like people who were already struggling to make ends meet... how could anyone do this? 😡

But you know what really gets me is the fact that his HIV status was even used as an enhancement charge... like, isn't that just another way for society to shame and stigmatize people with HIV? 🤢 it's not a crime, guys! It's a medical condition!

Anywayz... stats on this case are wild... did you know that according to the CDC, in 2020 alone, there were over 37,000 new cases of HIV diagnosed in the US... and most of these people end up dying from AIDS-related illnesses... it's like, we gotta do better 🤦‍♂️

🤕 this is so disturbing 🚨 my heart goes out to all these guys who were victimized by this guy, it's just not right that he would prey on people like that, especially vulnerable ones 🌎 it's crazy that one person can have such a huge impact on a community like this 😓 i think the fact that victims are coming forward now is really brave and helpful for others to hear their stories so they know what to look out for 💬 also, i hope he gets the justice he deserves in life without bail 🤞

I don’t usually comment but... I mean, can you even imagine what it must be like to go through something like this? Like, being targeted by someone because of your appearance or your vulnerability, and then being assaulted multiple times while you're already in a vulnerable state? 😱 It's just heartbreaking.

And the fact that he was able to do this for so long without getting caught is just shocking. I don't know how anyone can even wrap their head around it. The impact on his victims must be immeasurable, and it's crazy to think about how many people were affected by him.

I hope that justice gets served in January, but at the same time, I feel like this whole case is just so... overwhelming. 🤯 Like, how can you even process something like this? It's just too much to take in.

OMG, 60+ men?? 😱🤯 This is literally too much to even process... I mean, I knew he was a suspect, but come on, like, 60 victims?! 🤷‍♂️ The fact that he would target vulnerable people, especially at nightclubs, is just horrific. And the part about him leaving them with injuries and them having to go through this trauma all over again... it's just too much 💔

But what really gets me is how brave those victims are for coming forward and sharing their stories. I mean, can you even imagine going through something like that and still being strong enough to speak out? It's truly inspiring 🙏. And I'm so glad that law enforcement is taking this seriously and vowing to bring justice to the victims. Sarceño Orla better be prepared for life in prison... he deserves it 😡

man this is so messed up 🤯 i'm still trying to wrap my head around it 60+ guys victimized by one guy? that's just insane how many people are saying he targeted vulnerable individuals at nightclubs and bars, like, what's wrong with these guys?! shouldn't they have seen something was off? anyway i'm so glad the victims are speaking out and finding some sense of justice in this mess, but it's still crazy to think about all those lives affected by one person's actions 🤕

Man, this is just a total nightmare 🤯... I mean, 60+ men who were all assaulted by one guy? It's crazy how some people can do such heinous things and think they're above the law. The fact that Sarceño Orla was able to get away with it for so long is just heartbreaking. And now, his victims are having to relive their traumas in court, which is just cruel.

I'm all about justice being served, but I feel for these guys who were hurt by this guy. They're the real heroes here - sharing their stories and helping others not go through what they went through. The law enforcement officials are doing a great job of taking care of this, though. 27 years on the force, Police Chief Canfield has seen it all, but this is just devastating. Sarceño Orla needs to face justice ASAP, and I hope he's getting the support he needs while he's in custody too 💔

🤕 This case is absolutely heartbreaking 😔. You can't even imagine the trauma that 60+ men must be going through right now... it's like a never-ending nightmare. The fact that this guy was targeting vulnerable individuals, including clients and strangers at nightclubs, makes it even more heinous. 🚫

I mean, think about it... these guys were just trying to have a good time or get some work done, and then they got attacked by someone who took advantage of their trust and vulnerability. And now, the fact that this guy is being held accountable for his actions is a huge relief, but also a reminder of the long road ahead for these victims 🌟.

The thing that's really striking about this case is how the victims' bravery in coming forward has sparked an outpouring of support and solidarity. It's amazing to see people rallying around each other and demanding justice 🤝.

🤕 This is just heartbreaking... I mean, 60 people?! Can you even imagine being targeted like that? 🤯 The fact that this guy was able to do it for so long without getting caught is just crazy 😲. And the worst part is that he preyed on vulnerable individuals, including clients and strangers who were already in a compromised state.

I'm glad that law enforcement was able to catch him and bring him to justice 🙏, but this case has really highlighted how much more we need to do to support our communities, especially those with HIV/AIDS. It's not like the guy didn't know about his status or something... it just makes you wonder if he thought he could get away with it forever?

Anyway, I'm so glad that the victims are speaking out and sharing their stories 🗣️, maybe this can help raise awareness and prevent other people from going through what they've gone through. It's a tough case to wrap your head around, but hopefully, justice will be served 💯

I'm just so appalled by this news 🤯🚫. Can't believe some dude thought he could get away with assaultin' 60+ people... like, what is wrong with you?! 😩 The fact that he targeted vulnerable individuals, including clients and strangers he met at nightclubs, is just sickening. And the worst part? He's got HIV and used it to manipulate these poor guys into sharing drinks with him... no human deserves that kinda exploitation 🤝.

And I'm all for standin' up to perpetrators like Sarceño Orla, but can't we talk about the platform where he was able to do this? Like, what social media app or nightspot allowed someone so sick and twisted to operate under their radar for so long?! 📱🍺 We need more accountability on these platforms, 'specially when it comes to user safety. It's just not right that some dude can get away with all this trauma... justice needs to be served ASAP! 💪

this is so tragic 😩 he was a barber, of all professions... i feel bad for the victims, but at the same time, 60+ people can't just be ignored or dismissed as "his type" - they were real people with lives and families 🤕 Sarceño Orla might've been a predator, but let's not forget that he was also human 🙏 who made some really bad choices... the justice system is in place for a reason, so i guess it's good to see the suspect facing life in prison 💯

🤕 this case is just heartbreaking I mean we're talking about 60+ people who were victimized, it's a staggering number... my heart goes out to each and every one of them. it's crazy how someone can prey on such vulnerable individuals, especially those who are already struggling with their own demons. 💔

and to think he's been able to fly under the radar for so long is just appalling. I mean, we're lucky that some of these guys found the courage to come forward and share their stories. kudos to them for being brave enough to speak out 🙌.

I do wish that we could focus on supporting our communities more, rather than just reacting to these heinous crimes when they happen. it's time we start building a culture where people feel safe and supported, not just law enforcement officials who are doing their part 👮‍♂️.

This case is a harsh reminder that our actions have consequences and can cause irreparable harm to others 🤕. It's also a testament to the human spirit, where people are willing to come forward and share their stories in the hopes of helping others heal 💖. We need to be mindful of the impact we have on those around us, whether it's through our words or actions. Let this serve as a warning: respect others' boundaries and consent, and never underestimate the power of empathy and kindness 🤝.

🤕 this case is literally heartbreaking ... 60+ people, all victims of the same person... it's just staggering 🤯 how someone can do this to so many innocent people... I mean, I'm glad that law enforcement was able to catch him and bring him to justice, but at what cost? 💔 those victims must have been traumatized for years, sharing drinks with a stranger who would ultimately harm them... it's just not right 😡

and to think, this guy worked as a barber, of all places... people were trusting him to cut their hair, not to hurt them 🤷‍♀️ it's like, how did we miss the signs? How could he have been so brazen with his behavior?

anyway, I'm just glad that there are still good people in this world who care about these victims and are fighting for justice... we need more of that 💖
