My son is a voracious reader, but he judges books by their covers. How can I help him see past them? | Leading questions

I totally get why Eleanor is stressed out! I remember when my little sis was 8, she was super into drawing comics and graphic novels. She wouldn't read anything unless it had a cool cover 😂. But as a parent, you want to encourage her love for reading without being too controlling.

I think what the article suggests is kinda genius - getting her hands dirty with design! 🎨 I tried something similar with my own son when he was 7, and it ended up being so much fun for both of us. He got to express his creativity while still learning about book cover design principles.

But you're right, too, that sometimes kids just need space to explore their interests on their own. My sister's friend has a kid who loves playing video games and only reads manga with anime-style covers 🤖. It's all about finding that balance between letting them make their own choices and guiding them towards discovering new things.

Maybe we can even learn from our kids, huh? They're right – it's not always about the book itself, but what kind of message or vibe it sends 💡.

🤔 I totally get why Eleanor is at her wit's end here... I mean, who doesn't love a sick book cover, right? 📚😂 But seriously, it's like our younger generations are being bombarded with so much info (social media, online reviews, etc) that they can get overwhelmed. Maybe the key is to give them some space to explore on their own and not force-feed them what we think they should be reading... I mean, I remember when I was 8, I used to love these weird kids' books with super colorful illustrations and now those are the ones I still cherish! 📖 But maybe that's just me...

🤔 I think this is so relatable! As a parent myself, I've had my fair share of trying to get my kid to read that one book they just fell in love with... only to find out it's not his thing after all 📚. But you're right, sometimes the cover can be super distracting! Asking your kid to design their own covers is actually a genius idea! Not only does it encourage creativity, but it also lets them take ownership of what they read. Maybe we should give ourselves some creative freedom too? 🎨

🤔 I think this is so cool 📚! It's like, we want our kids to be independent, right? But at the same time, we want them to explore and discover new things. I mean, who doesn't love a good book with amazing cover art 😍?

So, what if instead of fighting it, we just... adapt 🤷‍♀️? Like, get your kid involved in designing their own book covers or even creating their own stories! That way, they're more invested in the process and might actually choose books that you wouldn't have picked for them yourself.

It's also super relevant with all the social media influencers out there telling us what to like 📱. Our kids are so bombarded with opinions and recommendations – it's hard for them to make up their own minds! Maybe we should just chill and let them figure it out on their own?

I don’t usually comment but I think Eleanor is kind of right, you know? Like, kids these days are so bombarded with info that they just wanna stick with what they like 'cause it's familiar 🤯. And yeah, asking her son to design his own book covers is a sick idea! Let him express himself and maybe he'll find something that really speaks to him 💡. I don’t think there’s one-size-fits-all solution here tho - some kids are just gonna be super picky about their books 😐. But Eleanor's trying, so props for that 🤗!

😊 kids these days are all about aesthetics 📚👀 covers can be really influential on what we choose to read maybe we should just let them express themselves creatively, like making their own book covers? 🎨💻 that way they'll learn to love the story too, not just the pretty pictures 👍
