Nancy Mace celebrates House trying to subpoena Rep. Ilhan Omar’s immigration records

US Rep Nancy Mace Pushes House Oversight Committee to Subpoena Ilhan Omar's Immigration Records

In a move that has drawn criticism from Democratic lawmakers, right-wing Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) urged the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday to subpoena the immigration records of her Democratic counterpart, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn), and her brother.

Mace raised unsubstantiated claims that Omar may have married her brother to gain citizenship in the US, a charge that Omar has repeatedly denied as "disgusting lies." The allegations are part of Mace's broader effort to discredit Omar, who is a prominent member of the progressive "Squad" in the House.

Mace's motion came during a hearing on benefit fraud in Minnesota, where she also made verbal comments about Omar's immigration status. The Oversight Committee is now seeking to compel Omar's testimony and produce her immigration records as part of an investigation into allegations of marriage fraud and other potential improprieties.

Federal authorities have investigated the accusation against Omar and found no evidence of wrongdoing. However, Mace's actions have sparked outrage among Democrats, who see them as a thinly veiled attempt to harass and intimidate their colleague.

"Marrying a sibling is illegal in every state," Mace said in a statement, adding that "federal marriage fraud and knowingly entering a marriage to evade immigration laws is a serious felony punishable by prison time, steep fines, denaturalization and deportation." Omar's office has previously stated that the accusations are baseless and motivated by partisan politics.

The Oversight Committee has announced plans to move forward with Mace's motion, sparking concerns among lawmakers about the potential scope of the investigation. As the case continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether the committee will produce any credible evidence or if Omar will ultimately face charges related to her immigration status.

🤔 This whole thing is so messed up. Rep Mace is trying to bully Ilhan Omar with these unsubstantiated claims about their marriage and immigration records... it's just not cool, you know? 🙅‍♂️ I mean, even if Omar did marry her brother (which she didn't), that's a whole different ball game. But the fact that Mace is using this as an excuse to harass her colleague is really concerning.

And can we talk about how ridiculous it is that Rep Mace says marrying a sibling is illegal in every state? Like, no one actually does that... 😂 and even if someone did, it's not like it's a serious felony. It's just basic common sense. 🙄 And what's with all the scare tactics around denaturalization and deportation? That's just playing on people's fears to get them riled up.

The fact that the Oversight Committee is backing Mace's motion is also super concerning... I mean, we should be focusing on real issues of benefit fraud, not using this as a way to silence or intimidate our elected officials. It's time for some transparency and accountability here! 💡

Umm yeah I'm totally low-key surprised that Rep Nancy Mace is at it again 🤔 #SquadGoals #NotMyCongresswoman - she's just trying to distract from her own issues, you feel? 💁‍♀️ Anyway, Ilhan Omar has been on the receiving end of some pretty shady allegations before, and this latest one is just another example of how Republicans love to stir up drama 🎭 #FakeNews #MarriageIsLove - let's focus on real issues rather than personal attacks 😒

🤦‍♀️ oh girl, Nancy Mace is at it again 🙄... like what's next? Is she gonna try to subpoena Barack and Michelle Obama's birth certificates too 😂? This whole thing just reeks of desperation and a clear attempt to smear Ilhan Omar's good name. I mean, come on, if there's even a hint of something fishy going on with her immigration status, why hasn't anyone else said anything all these years? It's like Mace is just trying to distract us from the real issues at hand.

And let's be real, marrying a sibling is not a federal offense... it's actually a state law that varies from place to place 🤷‍♀️. So, who's really doing the "marrying" here? The one who's perpetuating these baseless claims or the one who's just being targeted for her politics?

I'm all about holding people in power accountable, but this is just a bunch of political posturing 🙅‍♀️. Omar has done nothing wrong and it's time we stop treating her like she's some kinda suspect. 💁‍♀️

🤔 I dont get why Rep Mace is making such a big deal out of this Ilhan Omar situation its like she's trying to distract everyone from other things that are actually important. And what really gets me is how some people still believe these baseless claims about Ilhan Omar marrying her brother and getting citizenship. Like, come on guys 🙄 we all know better than to fall for this kinda stuff.

🤯 What's going on here? Rep Mace is basically trying to bully Rep Omar by pushing for her immigration records 📝. Like, can't they just have a debate like normal humans? 😒 And btw, isn't marrying a sibling kinda rare in the first place? 🙄 Anyway, I'm not sure what's more disturbing - the fact that Rep Mace is doing this or that no one seems to be questioning her motives 🤔. We all know politics can get ugly, but come on! 😩

Oh and btw, shouldn't Rep Omar have the right to keep her personal info private? 🤷‍♀️ It's not like she did something wrong... or at least, that's what she claims 🙅‍♂️. I'm all for accountability, but let's make sure we're not crossing any lines here 👀.

And can we please talk about how ridiculous it is that Rep Mace is trying to justify this by saying marrying a sibling is "illegal in every state"? Like, no kidding? 🙄 That's not even an argument. More like a desperate attempt to discredit her opponent 😒.

This whole situation just smells like politics as usual... 🤥 and honestly, I'm kinda disappointed that more people aren't speaking out against Rep Mace's actions 👀. What do you guys think? Should we be worried about this kind of behavior in our government? 🤔

🤔 This is just getting crazy! Rep Nancy Mace's actions are a total low blow 🚽 and completely unprofessional. She's trying to bully and intimidate Ilhan Omar over unsubstantiated claims that are being thoroughly debunked by the feds already 😒. The fact that she's trying to get Omar's immigration records is just ridiculous, like she's some kind of investigator instead of a lawmaker 🤦‍♀️.

And can we talk about how this plays into her "broader effort" to discredit Ilhan? It's all about getting under Omar's skin and making it hard for her to do her job 💔. Mace needs to focus on real issues rather than just trying to stir up drama and controversy 🤷‍♀️.

I'm worried where this investigation is headed, too. If the Oversight Committee goes down this path, it could lead to a whole lot of unnecessary trouble for Omar... and potentially others who might be targeted next 🔍. It's time to call out Mace for what she's doing – she's being really mean-spirited 🚫.

I'm really concerned about this whole thing... 🤔 I mean, shouldn't we focus on real issues instead of personal attacks? It's like, remember when Hillary Clinton got those emails and everyone was all bent out of shape? It seemed so serious back then, but now it just seems like a bunch of noise. 📰 Anyway, Ilhan Omar is an American citizen and has been living in the US for years - isn't that what we're supposed to want? 🤷‍♀️ I think this whole thing reeks of partisanship and some people are trying to distract us from real problems. 🤦‍♂️ It's just not fair to Ilhan or her family... 😔

omg can't believe this is how politics is going in the US rn 🤯🚨 they're actually trying to drag Ilhan Omar's name through the mud over this bs about marrying her bro 😒 i mean what even is the point of all these investigations? just gonna find out more dirt on each other and then what? 🤷‍♂️ anyway, gotta say, if Nancy Mace is that concerned about Omar's immigration status, maybe she should focus on getting her own house in order first lol 😂

🤔 honestly i dont think this is right... rep mace seems to be using these unsubstantiated claims as a way to attack ilhan omar and discredit her. its like she's trying to bully someone into silence. the fact that federal authorities have already investigated and found no evidence of wrongdoing just goes to show that mace has nothing on omar. i also think its kinda rich that mace is talking about "marrying a sibling" being illegal in every state, yet somehow thats an excuse for her own behavior. 🙄

Ugh, can't believe what's going on here 🤯. Rep Mace is basically trying to bully Rep Omar over some super dodgy claims about her marriage. I mean, come on, marrying a sibling is literally illegal in every state, so who cares if Ilhan did it (which she didn't)? It's just another example of how politicized everything is these days 🙄. And what really gets my goat is that the Oversight Committee is buying into this and actually pushing to subpoena her immigration records 📝. Like, what's next? Are they gonna start digging through our personal finances too? 😂

The whole situation with Nancy Mace and Ilhan Omar is super concerning 🤔. I mean, come on, they're trying to subpoena someone's immigration records just because of some unsubstantiated claims about their personal life? It's like, what's next? They're going after Rep. Omar's entire record on immigration just to discredit her as a politician?

I don't get why Mace is doing this. She knows there's no evidence of wrongdoing from the federal authorities, and yet she's still pushing for an investigation. And let's be real, this whole thing sounds like a massive smear campaign 🚽. I mean, have you seen the state laws on sibling marriage? They're all over the place! It's not even worth getting into.

The bigger issue here is that Mace is trying to silence Rep. Omar through intimidation and harassment tactics 😠. This kind of behavior should be called out for what it is: an abuse of power. The Oversight Committee needs to take a closer look at Mace's motivations and see if she's trying to bully someone who's not afraid to speak her mind.

The real victims here are the American people, who deserve better than politicians playing games with each other's lives 🤷‍♀️. We need more transparency and accountability in our government, not less.

I'm so worried about Rep. Ilhan Omar 🤕. It's just not right that someone is trying to bully and harass her like this. The fact that federal authorities have already investigated and found no wrongdoing makes me think this is all just a big political stunt 😒. Mace's actions are not only unfair, but they're also super hurtful and disrespected Omar's personal life 🤝. I mean, who gets to decide what someone's marriage history is, anyway? Not politicians who are trying to score points on the campaign trail 📊. Can't we all just focus on finding solutions to real problems instead of tearing each other down 💔?

I'm super skeptical about this whole thing 🤔. Nancy Mace's accusations against Ilhan Omar seem like a clear case of politics over people 💁‍♀️. I mean, who gets subpoenaed for their immigration records just because they're a politician with a different party affiliation? It's just not right 😐.

I think Mace is trying to distract us from her own benefits scandal and using Omar as a scapegoat 🙄. The fact that federal authorities have already cleared Omar of any wrongdoing doesn't seem to matter to Mace 💁‍♀️. And now, the Oversight Committee is just rolling along with this motion... it's like they're trying to fuel more drama 🎭.

I'm not buying into all these unsubstantiated claims about Omar marrying her brother for citizenship 🙅‍♀️. It sounds like a wild conspiracy theory to me 🤣. Can't we focus on actual issues and policy instead of personal attacks? 🙏

omg is this really happening?? 🤯 i feel so bad for rep omar, she's already dealing with so much hate and now this 😔 mace needs to focus on real issues rather than trying to bring ppl down over unsubstantiated claims. it's like she thinks her opinions are the only ones that matter 🙄 newsflash: we all have biases and stuff goes wrong when they're taken out of context. btw, how can someone even accuse someone of marrying their sibling just to get citizenship? isn't that like a huge leap in logic 😂 anyway, i hope the oversight committee does some real digging before this gets any crazier 🤔
