Netflix Postpones Alex Honnold’s ‘Skyscraper Live’ Climb Due to Weather Concerns

Netflix has rescheduled its highly anticipated live streaming event "Skyscraper Live" due to weather concerns. The event, which was set to follow free solo climber Alex Honnold as he scales the Taipei 101 tower in Taiwan, has been postponed until Saturday night U.S. time, with a new transmission slot of 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.

The decision comes after rain showers were expected to hit the area at the same time "Skyscraper Live" was set to kick off at 9 a.m. local time. According to the show's producers, safety is their top priority and they cannot proceed with the event under current weather conditions.

"I sadly will not get to climb the building today because it’s raining," Honnold shared on Instagram. "I suppose climbing is always at the mercy of nature. That’s just how it goes… I’m going to go for a hike and have a nice day out."

The January 24 transmission was chosen because it's dry season in Taiwan, but weather forecasts showed that rain was still possible. With the new postponement date, Honnold will now attempt to free solo the Taipei 101 tower on a more favorable day.

"Skyscraper Live" is a highly anticipated event that has garnered significant interest from fans of free solo climbing. Alex Honnold's daring feats have been showcased in the Oscar-winning documentary "Free Solo," which chronicled his climb of El Capitan's 3,000-foot "Freerider" route in Yosemite National Park.

The production team behind "Skyscraper Live" has taken a cautious approach, citing safety as their top priority. "We won't be on that building unless we're all comfortable," said Plimsoll Prods. Ltd. CEO Grant Mansfield. The event is being produced by Plimsoll Prods. Limited, in association with ITV Studios.

With the postponement, fans are eagerly awaiting the new transmission date, which promises to be a thrilling experience for those watching from around the world.

OMG 🤯, can u believe that Alex Honnold's "Skyscraper Live" is getting postponed due to bad weather? 😩 It's like he was meant 2 climb that Taipei 101 tower already! But I guess safety is always 1st priority and the producers r all about being cautious 💪. The new date looks good tho, dry season in Taiwan and all 🌞... fingers crossed it'll be a smooth climbing experience for Alex 👍. I mean, have u seen him in "Free Solo"? That guy's got some serious skills 💥! Can't wait 2 see him tackle that tower on Saturday night 📺

I'm kinda bummed about this - I was really stoked to watch "Skyscraper Live" live 🤯... but safety first is always the way to go, you know? 😊 It's not like they're gonna rush into it just 'cause Alex Honnold wants to get it done. The weather conditions are pretty unpredictable in Taiwan, especially during this time of year, and I think it's smart of them to postpone it.

I mean, can imagine if something went wrong and he got hurt... that'd be a total bummer 🤕... but at least the production team is being responsible and considering all the factors. The new date looks pretty good too - 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on Saturday night? That's definitely gonna be a fun watch! I'm curious to see how it all goes down now that they've got a better window...

Ugh, who needs a free solo climb when you can watch it on Netflix instead? 🤣📺 I mean, seriously though, safety first, right? Can't have Alex Honnold risking his life just to entertain us. And honestly, rain or shine, the Taipei 101 tower is gonna be a hot mess regardless of who's climbing it 😂. Dry season in Taiwan didn't quite live up its hype, did it? 🌿 Still can't wait for Saturday night, though - I heard the commentary will be just as thrilling as Honnold's face 🤦‍♂️.

I'm so down on this decision 🤷‍♂️... I mean, who needs live streaming of Alex Honnold climbing when you can just watch the rehearsal videos they've been releasing 😴? It's not like it's going to be that different, right? And let's be real, 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT is still super early 🕰️. Can't they just air it at midnight like a normal show?

ugh I'm gonna miss this... I mean, safety first, you know? 😩 can't have Alex Honnold risking his life because of bad weather. the live streaming event was gonna be epic tho! 🤯 at least it's postponed to a more favorable day. fingers crossed for a clear sky on saturday night 🌃

🤔 They should've checked the forecast before scheduling it... now they're gonna have to wait another day? 😐 At least Alex is taking it in stride tho 👍

omg what a bummer 🤕! i was so stoked to see alex honnold take on the taipei 101 tower live 💥. but safety first, right? 😂 8 pm et / 5 pm pt can't come soon enough 🕰️. i'm all about pushing limits, but not when it comes to risking lives 🙏. this is gonna be a epic event for fans of free solo climbing, and i need my fix now 🤯! btw, have you seen the trailer for "free solo" on youtube? mind blown 😲

Can't believe they're gonna delay this event like that lol 🤦‍♂️... I mean, I get it, safety first and all, but come on! Alex Honnold's been training for months for this moment and now he's just gonna have to wait a whole extra day? 😒. On the bright side, it gives him an even better chance of pulling off that insane climb 💪. And can we talk about how beautiful the Taipei 101 tower is in person?! 🌃 I mean, I've seen some crazy pics and vids online, but nothing beats seeing something live... fingers crossed for a clearer day on Saturday night 🤞.
