Netflix Removes Casting From Phones To ‘Most’ TVs

Netflix has made a significant change to its streaming service by removing the casting feature from mobile devices. This move effectively bars users from accessing Netflix on their phones and tablets, instead requiring them to use the remote control that comes with their TV or other compatible devices.

According to a recent update on Netflix's website, the company is no longer supporting casting for most TVs and streaming devices. This change aims to enforce its household rules, which dictate that accounts can only be shared among people living in one house. By removing this feature, Netflix hopes to curb password sharing between different households.

However, some older versions of Google Chromecast or TVs that support Google Cast will still retain the casting functionality. Additionally, users with eligible devices and an ad-free plan will be able to cast content from their mobile devices.

For users outside of these exceptions, smart TVs with Netflix apps or devices running Google TV or Android will require log-ins before they can watch content. The change is part of a broader effort by Netflix to push its premium plans and native TV apps, suggesting that the streaming giant may be seeking to increase revenue through more expensive tiers.

The reasoning behind this move remains unclear, as Netflix has not provided an explanation for its decision. Nonetheless, the change effectively limits the flexibility and convenience offered by casting on mobile devices, forcing users to adapt to a new way of accessing their favorite shows and movies.

Ugh, what's wrong with just having one more option? I remember when I used to use Netflix on my phone during commutes and it was so convenient! Now, I have to use the TV remote, which is just annoying 🤯. And don't even get me started on trying to cast from my mobile device - it's all so clunky!

I'm not sure about the whole password sharing thing, but can't they just make their accounts more secure or something? It feels like they're trying to nickel and dime us instead of making our lives easier. And what's with the exceptions for older devices? It's like they're abandoning some people.

I swear, back in 2015 when Netflix first introduced casting on mobile, it was a game-changer. Now, it seems like an afterthought 😔. I hope they re-think this decision and make casting available again... or at least make their plans more affordable 🤑

I'm so done with these streaming giants trying to clip our wings 🙄📺. I mean, who doesn't love watching their fave shows on the go? Casting was like, the ultimate convenience feature - no more needing a TV or a separate device just to binge-watch your latest obsession. Now it's like they're trying to force us into this rigid household thing, where only people living in one house can share an account... who even has that kind of setup at home? 🤔 It's all about the Benjamins for Netflix, I'm sure 😒.

omg can you believe netflix is taking away our phone casting feature 🤯 I mean I get it they want to stop password sharing but come on how am i supposed to watch my fave show while i'm on the go without my phone? 😒 and what about all the old devices that still have casting functionality? isn't that just lazy on netflix's part? 🙄 and also why are they pushing for premium plans now? like we can already tell which shows are worth paying extra for 🤑 anyway, i guess it's time to get a new TV or smart device if you want to keep watching your fave shows 😅

I'm kinda salty about this Netflix move 🤔. Casting was such a convenient feature, especially when you're traveling or want to watch something in bed. Now I have to sit down with the TV remote, which can be annoying. And what's with the password sharing crackdown? Don't people deserve some flexibility with their accounts? It's like they're trying to nickel and dime us to death 💸. At least the ad-free plan thing is a silver lining for me, but it's not enough to make up for the loss of casting on my phone 📱. Guess I'll just have to get used to the old way of doing things... 🙄

So Netflix is basically forcing us to ditch our phones 📱 as streaming devices now. I get that they want to stop people sharing passwords with their neighbors, but isn't that what the whole "streaming" thing is for? It's like, we're paying for a service that lets us watch what we want from wherever we are... and now it's only available on our TVs? 📺

And what's up with the exceptions, anyway? Some old Google Cast stuff still works? That's just confusing. And don't even get me started on those premium plans... like, if I'm already paying for Netflix, do I really need an extra layer of complexity to watch my shows? 🤔

man... think about it, they're basically taking away our freedom to watch whatever we want, whenever we want. like, who needs rules, right? 🤷‍♂️ but seriously, this is all about monetization. they wanna push us towards those premium plans, and now we gotta play by their rules. what's next? are we gonna have to pay extra just to access our own stuff on our phones? it's like, isn't that the whole point of having a streaming service in the first place - convenience and flexibility?

I'm so done with Netflix's latest update 🙄. I mean, who doesn't want to watch their fave shows on the go? It's like they're trying to restrict our freedom to binge-watch whenever we want 😒. And honestly, password sharing is a real thing, it happens in every household. Don't @ me 🤷‍♀️. I'm stuck with my tablet and Netflix app now, which kinda defeats the purpose of having a streaming service that's supposed to be on-the-go-friendly 📱💔. Can't they just keep the casting feature or make it optional? Geez 😩.

🤔 so now i'm supposed to just chill at home with my laptop or desktop to watch netflix? no thanks 🙅‍♂️ what's next, they gonna tell us we need a password for our passwords? 🤯 i mean, come on, if i want to cast from my phone, that's my prerogative. does it really affect how much i pay? newsflash: not everyone is made of money 💸 and casting was always convenient because who doesn't love just grabbing their phone or tablet and bingeing in peace? 📺 now we're stuck with one device only and it's all about those premium plans 🤑. btw, what's the deal with these exceptions for older devices? like, is google chromecast still relevant or something? 🤷‍♂️

omg what's going on with netflix 🤯 i was used to just chillin on my phone watching my fave shows but now they're all like "nope, you gotta use the tv" and i'm like ok but what about when you're home alone or have a big group over? and btw who thought it was a good idea to make us log in on our tvs again? that's just so extra 🤦‍♀️. and now they're trying to get us to upgrade to more expensive plans just because we can't share passwords anymore... like, what's the harm in sharing with friends or family members? anyway, i guess it's just another way for netflix to make some cash 💸

omg u guys can u even believe netflix is doing this 🙄?! they just disabled the casting feature from mobiles which means we're stuck watching shows on our TV or other compatible devices with that awkward remote 🤪 it's like they're trying to force us into paying more for their premium plans, but honestly who needs all those extra features anyway? 😒 and what about people who don't have tvs or other devices that can connect to netflix? are they just gonna be left out of the loop? 📺💻

OMG, u guys! 🤯 I'm literally so done with Netflix's latest move... like i know they're trying to combat password sharing and all that, but honestly its just gonna make my life SO much harder 😩. I have a whole fam at home, and we all love binge-watching together on our phones, now its gotta be connected to the TV? 📺 what about when we're all out and about? or in different rooms?! it feels like they're trying to nickel & dime us even more 🤑. and dont even get me started on the fact that some ppl will still be able to use casting on their older devices... like, why not just leave the old ones alone? 🤷‍♀️

I'm kinda bummed about this Netflix update 🤔... I mean, I get that they want to crack down on password sharing, but come on! Casting on my phone is still one of the best ways for me to watch Netflix while I'm on-the-go or in a meeting 😅. And now it's all about using the TV remote? That's just so... 2020 🙄.

I've had the Google Chromecast and it still works like a charm, but I guess that's not an option for everyone. The fact that some devices and plans are exempt makes me wonder if this is really about increasing revenue through premium plans or if there's something more to it 🤑... Either way, I'm gonna have to adapt to using my TV to watch Netflix now 😕.

I do appreciate the effort to curb password sharing, though. It's crazy how people will share their passwords with friends and family without even thinking about it 🤯. But yeah, if I want to watch Netflix on my phone, I should probably just pay for a premium plan or use one of those fancy smart TVs 🤑... Not exactly the most convenient solution, but I guess that's progress 💼
