Organizers admit 'no plan B' if hockey arena not ready for 2026 Olympics

Milan Cortina Winter Games Face Crunch Time as Main Ice Hockey Arena Stalls on Schedule

A stark warning has been issued by the organizers of the Milan Cortina Winter Games: if the main ice hockey arena isn't ready on time, there will be no Plan B. Andrea Francisi, chief games operations officer for the event, bluntly stated that there is "no plan B" as construction continues to fall behind schedule.

The Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena, which will host NHL players and Olympic events for the first time in over a decade, has already had its test events pushed back. The initial test event was moved, and new test dates are now scheduled for 9-11 January – just days before the actual start of the competition.

Francisi emphasized that any mistakes at the arena would have serious consequences. "So necessarily we have to be able to organize the competition in an impeccable manner at Santagiulia," he said, underscoring the pressure to get everything right.

Typically, new Olympic venues undergo extensive testing at least a year before hosting events. However, for a large hockey arena like Santagiulia, this process is even more complex, involving not just ice preparation but also concession stands, bathrooms, and every other aspect of the venue.

Francisi acknowledged that there's no fixed completion date for the venue handover to local organizers but expressed confidence in the current pace. "There are daily updates... our team is working every day," he said, citing close collaboration with the construction companies involved.

While optimism prevails, any miscalculation could have disastrous consequences for the event. The men's Olympic hockey tournament runs from 11-22 February, while the women's tournament takes place from 5-19 February – both events are crucial to the overall success of the Winter Games.

I'm getting a bit worried about the Milan Cortina Winter Games 🀯. I mean, an ice hockey arena is supposed to be ready in like 3 weeks? That's not even enough time for a test event, let alone all the other stuff that needs to be checked out. What if they don't find any issues on time? What's their plan B (which doesn't exist, apparently)? I get it, it's complex and takes longer than usual, but you can't rush a build of this scale without risking something going wrong.

It's like they're trying to put all the pressure on themselves, and that's not a good way to run an event. They need to be more realistic about their timeline and have some backup plans in place, just in case things don't go according to plan. I hope everything comes together in time, but my gut is telling me they might be biting off more than they can chew πŸ€”.

OMG, what's goin' on with this ice hockey arena?? 🀯 It's like, they're runnin' out of time and can't even get it right for the test events! 9-11 Jan is just a few days away from the actual competition start date? That's super stressful for them. I mean, I know they said there won't be no plan B but, umm... what if something goes wrong? 😬 The whole thing feels like a ticking time bomb. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything comes together in the end though 🀞

OMG, I'm freaking out over here! 😱 I mean, I've been following this whole Milan Cortina Winter Games thing for ages and now it seems like everything is just falling apart... literally! The ice hockey arena is supposed to be ready by now but it's still not done 🀯. I was so looking forward to watching some sick NHL games in that arena, but now I'm worried it's gonna be a disaster 😬. I hope they can get it together soon because the Olympics are already gonna be super competitive without any last-minute venue issues... πŸ’οΈπŸ’₯

🀯 this is a major wake-up call for the Milan Cortina Winter Games! They're literally putting all their eggs in one basket with that main ice hockey arena, and it's staggering to think they don't have a backup plan πŸ€”. I mean, we've seen construction delays happen before, but this feels different because the stakes are so high πŸ’Έ.

I'm not surprised they're emphasizing the importance of getting everything right though – you only get one shot at hosting a major event like this πŸ…. But what's really concerning is that there's no fixed completion date for the venue handover... how will they ensure that everything is ready on time? ⏰

This situation is making me think about the risks of relying too heavily on a single event or venue – what if something goes wrong and it's not just the games themselves, but also the entire city's infrastructure πŸŒ†. I guess only time will tell if they can pull this off, but my gut feeling is that things might get pretty messy 😬

😬 I'm getting a little worried about the Milan Cortina Winter Games 🀞 They need to get that ice hockey arena ready ASAP or it'll be a disaster πŸ’₯ I mean, test events already got pushed back and now they're talking about no plan B? 🚫 That's a lot of pressure on one venue. What if something goes wrong during the games? The whole thing could fall apart 😩 I hope they can get everything sorted out in time, but it's hard to feel optimistic when you look at the schedule πŸ•°οΈ Those test dates are just days away and there's still so much work to be done 🀯

πŸ€• the pressure on the Milan Cortina Winter Games organizers is pretty intense right now. a main ice hockey arena stalling on schedule? that's a recipe for disaster, especially when you're dealing with high-profile events like Olympic competitions. it's not just about getting the ice rink ready, but also the concession stands, bathrooms, and all that jazz... it's a whole production. 😬 i mean, typically they'd have a year to test out new venues, but this one's a big deal so it's no wonder there's no plan B πŸ€”. the stakes are high, especially if you're hosting NHL players and Olympic events for the first time in over a decade. any mistakes could put the whole event at risk... that's not exactly what you want when you're trying to make a good impression on the world stage πŸ….

omg can u believe this?? 🀯 they're literally putting all their eggs in one basket and if that arena isn't ready on time... game over 😬 i mean, i get it, there's pressure but test events getting pushed back is not ideal at all. what if they run out of time? or worse, something goes wrong during the games? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ my friend's cousin works with construction and he said it's crazy how tight the schedule is... anyway, gotta keep fingers crossed for Cortina Winter Games! 🀞

πŸ€” this is getting serious, can't imagine what it'll be like if they don't get it right, especially with NHL players and Olympic events on the line, need that arena to be perfect πŸ’οΈπŸ’ͺ

I'm getting a bad vibe about this πŸ€•. An ice hockey arena that can't even get its test events on schedule? That's a recipe for disaster, especially with top-notch NHL players and Olympic events coming up. What if something goes wrong and they have to call it off? The whole Winter Games could be impacted, not just the hockey tournament. And it's not like this is an isolated issue - think about all the other components that need to come together, like concession stands and bathrooms 🚽. Let's hope the organizers can get their act together ASAP! ⏰

πŸ€” This is getting serious, fam! They're counting on that ice hockey arena being perfect or else there's no Plan B? That's a lot of pressure on one venue, especially when you consider how complex it is to set up for events like the Olympics. What if they hit another snag? 🚨 I'm keeping my fingers crossed they can get everything sorted out before the games start, but that Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena better be ice-ready in no time! πŸ˜…

OMG, this is so worrying! 🀯 If they can't get the ice rink ready on time, what if something goes wrong during the games? Like, what if there's a big match and the arena isn't ready for it? 😬 I feel like they're putting all their eggs in one basket here. Have you seen those test events getting pushed back already? 9-11 January is still just around the corner! πŸ•°οΈ And with two major tournaments happening, it's not just about the hockey games themselves... what about the whole infrastructure of the venue? Concession stands, bathrooms, all that jazz. It's like they're playing a game of risk without a safety net. 😬 What if they run out of time and have to cancel the event altogether? πŸ€•

😬 this is getting serious, can't believe they're putting all their eggs in one basket like that... I mean, what if the arena isn't ready on time? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ it's not just about the ice hockey, it's about the whole event, you know? And those test events already got pushed back... what's going on with the construction companies? πŸ€” are they really working every day like Andrea said? πŸ’ͺ gotta keep an eye on this one πŸ‘€

omg I'm getting the heebie jeebies just thinking about this!! 😱 how can they be so close to the event and still not have everything sorted? 🀯 it's like they're playing a high-stakes game of hockey (pun intended) where one mistake could cost them millions πŸ’Έ or worse, ruin the whole thing 🚨

I get that test events are important, but come on! can't we just fast forward to the good stuff already? 😩 and what if something goes wrong at the actual games? the thought of all those athletes and fans waiting for hours because some concession stand wasn't fixed is giving me anxiety attacks πŸ’”

I'm trying to be optimistic here (I really am), but it's hard not to worry when you see the stakes so high 🀞 I mean, these aren't just any old hockey games we're talking about – this is an Olympic event! πŸ… and one tiny hiccup could throw everything off 🚨

I don't know, man... πŸ€” I'm like super stoked that the Olympics are coming to Milan Cortina, but at the same time, I'm really worried about this ice hockey arena situation. Like, what if they can't get it together on time? 😬 It's already had one test event pushed back, and now we're talking new dates just days before the main thing... that's some tightrope walking right there! 🎯

I mean, I've heard of no Plan B, but come on... shouldn't they have a backup plan or something? πŸ˜… It's not like it's impossible to fix stuff last minute. But, at the same time, I get why they're being all cautious and whatnot... it's a huge deal for the Olympics, and you don't want to mess up. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

It's just so frustrating because I really wanna enjoy this event without worrying about some logistical nightmare. Can't we just have a smooth ride for once? πŸš€

😬 what's going on with the ice rink in Milan?! they're saying no plan B if it's not ready on time? that's a lot of pressure! i'm a huge hockey fan and this is making me nervous... how can they be so sure they've got everything sorted out? didn't we learn anything from Sochi 2014? πŸ€” anyway, fingers crossed the construction team can get it done in time for the men's tournament in Feb πŸ’οΈ.

Ugh, this is getting out of hand 🀯... how can you not have a backup plan for a major event like the Olympics? I mean, Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena stalling on schedule and the chief games ops officer basically says there's no Plan B? That's just reckless. πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ And what about the test events being pushed back too? It's already January and the actual competition starts in February... what if something major goes wrong with the arena? The pressure is on, I get it, but you can't put all your eggs in one basket 😬. Sources would be really helpful to know what's going on behind the scenes here πŸ“°

OMG 🀯 is this guy for real? "No plan B"? Like what if something goes wrong on the big day? Won't they have a backup venue or something? I mean, come on, they can't put all their eggs in one basket... er, ice rink πŸ˜‚. And can we talk about how crazy it is that they're rushing this thing like there's no tomorrow? Test events are getting pushed back and now they're expecting everything to be perfect by January? That's just a recipe for disaster πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I hope the organizers have a solid backup plan in place, or this whole thing is gonna be a hot mess πŸ’₯.

I'm getting a major chill just thinking about the Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena not being ready on time πŸ€•. I mean, you can't just wing it with a new Olympic venue, especially one that's hosting NHL players and events for the first time in over a decade πŸ’οΈ. The pressure to get everything right is already super high, and now they're saying there's no plan B? 😬 That's just crazy talk. I'm hoping they can get it together, but if they mess this up... well, let's just say the Winter Games could be in big trouble β›ˆοΈ. I think they need to be more realistic about their timeline and maybe even consider a contingency plan just in case πŸ€”.

OMG, this is getting serious 😱! I was really looking forward to watching some awesome ice hockey at the Milan Cortina Winter Games, but now it seems like things are falling apart 🀯. The fact that they're pushing back test events and there's no Plan B is super worrying 🚨. What if something goes wrong on competition day? It's not just about the hockey, either - think about all the other stuff that needs to be set up, like bathrooms and concession stands πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I hope they can get it together ASAP ⏱️!
