Orlando Bloom Joins Ethan Hawke in Jungle Thriller 'The Last of the Tribe'
In a move that promises to take audiences on a thrilling ride through the depths of the Amazon rainforest, Oscar-nominated actor Ethan Hawke is set to star alongside Brazilian actress Zaya Guarani and newcomer Orlando Bloom in the jungle thriller "The Last of the Tribe".
Directed by Claudio Borrelli ("Vultures") and penned by Mark Bailey (Emmy-nominee), the film follows William Phelan (Hawke), a washed-out Chicago cop turned corporate gun-for-hire, who is sent to investigate a death in the Amazon. During his mission, he encounters the last surviving member of an Indigenous tribe.
Bloom, known for his iconic roles in "The Lord of the Rings" and "Pirates of the Caribbean", joins Hawke in this intense thriller, alongside Guarani, an Indigenous Brazilian activist and environmentalist who has also appeared in Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi documentary "Postcards From Earth".
In an exclusive statement, director Claudio Borrelli revealed his vision for the film: "I'm drawn to films that slam the raw, the rugged and the cruel head-on into the beautiful and the divine. In this story, the rainforest is both the villain and the savior — that natural and forever conflict is the essence of what I want to capture in The Last of the Tribe."
The film boasts an all-star cast, with Hawke's Oscar nomination for his leading role in "Blue Moon" still fresh on the scene. Bloom, meanwhile, has been making waves in recent dramas such as "The Cut" and "Red Right Hand", opposite Andie MacDowell.
Guarani brings her unique perspective as a Guarani Mbya activist to the project, while cinematographer Adolpho Veloso ("Train Dreams") will helm the film's visuals. Protagonist Pictures is launching sales ahead of EFM, with Fernando Meirelles (The Two Popes, City of God) serving as executive producer.
Dave Bishop, CEO of Protagonist Pictures, describes "The Last of the Tribe" as an "intense, propulsive thriller with real moral weight at its core". With its timely themes and elevated genre storytelling, this film promises to be a standout project that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
